Hi, were going to talk about stripping paint.
There are two ways to strip paint. We have a heat gun, a heat gun is not the same as a blow dryer. This has a little more horse power. You have to be careful with it. The other way is a chemical stripper. They both have their pro's and con's.
A heat gun is kind of like ironing. You want to be methodical and not hold it in one place too long. The heat, will loosen up the layers of paint and you can scrape it off. The plus point is you don't have to inhale to the chemicals from a chemical stripper.
Alright, so were going to do a section here for you. Show you the heat gun. [background noise] Pretty soon you will see it start to bubble...It is okay to use this on wood, but, be methodical about it and be careful. Were going to see whole layers of paint come off...It is good to do just a section at a time...This is not a fast process...Wow look at that...So plan your weekend accordingly and always use safety measures, long sleeves and gloves...So it may not be fast but this is an efficient way to strip paint if you are very careful.

It is a fast process with the heat gun as long as you ignore him and do it properly. After you take off the first bit of paint you want to hold the scraper behind the heat gun and move in long steady motion applying pressure on the crater as you move. You don't need to wait for the paint to bubble, it will just slide of in long pieces, it's the steam and air expanding underneath the paint that releases it, the bubbles are just superficial and happen last because there is not much air between layers of paint.

Another quick way, that may be slightly a bit more effort… go buy a new piece of trim wood, rip the old one off, and replace it.

you also want to put a respiratory mask on. he was also holding the gun too close , this can burn the timber and damage it and cause the paint not to stick as well, or adhere in professional terms. be sure that the paint is not lead containing many paints used in the 1970`s contains lead. you can get swabs to test for lead. be safe, don't always trust KZfaq videos.

@gungadin164

I think that there's a big risk of shattering the glass with the heat. If I were ever going to try stripping near glass, at the very least I'd cover the glass with a few layers of insulating material.

If you're referring to old, cracked paint, especially lead paint, you should buy and use an infrared paint-removing lamp. They aren't cheap, but they'll get the job done way better than anything else. This is the one that I'm planning on buying for getting rid of lead paint in my house -- Speedheater (you'll have to Google it, as YT won't allow me to paste a link to the site).

Wow! I've watched two videos about how to strip old paint from wood, but I still haven't heard from any of the people that posted the videos as to what temperature they recommend for doing this. Many heat guns come with variable heat ranges, including the one I own. I guess that common sense dictates that you use the lowest temperature that will get the job done, Yes? Heat guns can start a fire if you are not careful with them...

@@Simlife101 you are absolutely right about the wood/timber , the heat gun may also be used on walls / panels etc. Including drywall (also known as) plasterboard to remove old, cracked , peeling and built up coates of Gloss ENAMEL paint mainly in Bathrooms and Kitchens in very old houses HOWEVER extreme caution and care is required to avoid ruining/damaging the SURFACE (paper lining the Gypsum Plasterboard) I've been in the Building Industry 32 years experience is everything, having said that.... please take into consideration that every job is different and sometimes things dont go as planned or workout the way it's expected or as i have explained it where it unfortunately becomes a situation of stop , rethink , better strategy and a fresh start.......and job DONE ! ☝️😎🚬😉👍
