If your monitor stopped working, remember to plug the white cable near the battery back in after using the clear ribbon to pull it out during disassembly.

Thank you for the tutorial. I dropped my laptop and the charging port got smushed. This helped immensely to be able to access the charging port inside (which should be reinforced for instances like this, instead of a single little screw holding it on).

Hi, what are typically safe temps after cleaning the fan and changing pastes? I'm getting 73 C on the GPU and 95 tops on one of the cores during gaming after cleaning and replacing paste. Also, noted that the temps for the cores as read by speedfan was high on core 0 and 1 and about 10 C lower for 2 and 3.

Hey, know this is an year old comment, but logged in to tell you that the youtuber forgot to mention that the video cable that he disconnected in disassembly (the white one near the battery with the clear ribbon) needs to actually be re-engaged to the motherboard or the built-in monitor wont turn on. That was the mistake I initially made, and wanted to share since no one else commented.

@Chuckp-gd2tn
@Chuckp-gd2tn 7 жыл бұрын
Looking for the same instructions. On my GL551JM it looks like the keyboard is held to the top plastic piece (palmrest) using a metal piece. The metal piece appears to be fastened to the top plastic piece by melting the tops of pegs coming off the plastic piece. Not sure how you remove it and still reuse the top piece. I see that on Ebay you can buy a combo unit of the palmrest with keyboard attached. Expensive but easier than heating off all those plastic pegs. Maybe you can cut the peg tops off and try to fasten the metal piece to the top using some other method.

For me, nothing was spilled on the keyboard. It started while playing Witcher 3 for a long time, where the laptop would heat up, and my "esc" stops responding until I cool the laptop down. but after 3 days it just stopped working with 3 other buttons. Do you have any idea how to fix such thing? or should I take my laptop for keyboard replacement? I didn't find any similar case of mine on the internet, and thus no solutions available other than totally replacing it.

thermal compound , so the copper heat sink makes better contact with the CPU and GPU , thus gaining better cooling , although he replaced it with a better one because companies don't really use high grade ones ... and in notebooks like this , heat is a very common issue

How-FixIT That is quite intriguing. I expected to have the gpu closer to the fan, as that has a higher tendency to overheat than the cpu. Especially because of the 74 degree Celsius cap on this laptop.

I notice that there are white thermal paste like substances on the silver plate, flat copper plate on the heat sinks and some of the components on the motherboard. Is that the same thermal paste use on the CPU and GPU? or is it a thermal pad? Is there a reason why you chose to ignore those chips where those white substances are placed?
@tato7708
@tato7708 7 жыл бұрын
Reki Cabaya I think the thermal paste/padding you see it to protect some of the more thermally fragile parts of the laptop. Since some of the heat naturally dissipates through the copper pipes, no matter how much you try to stop it. I could absolutely be incorrect however. I'm sure those covered in the thermal paste are fine, since they themselves do not create as much heat as the cpu/gpu.
@reiki2165
@reiki2165 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I am a little reluctant to open this laptop up cos of that. I don't feel comfortable putting thermal paste like arctic silver 5 on those node chip looking things, in fear of short circuiting the connections if it goes onto the solder connections and motherboard. The thermal paste residue on there looks like it is dry so I am guessing they used something that has more viscosity, and it is hard to tell how big of a gap is compared to the GPU/CPU. Sometimes a gap that is wider than the CPU/GPU requires more paste(risky for such a small component) or a thermal pad to fill up that gap up for proper contact with the heat pipe
