No shade, Viktor Hartmann's paintings are nice, but HAVE YOU HEARD Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition!? Ultimately it was their relationship that inspired Mussorgsky to compose such an amazing piano piece, which later inspired many musicians to arrange it for orchestra.
In this video I look at the composition history and compare the different orchestra arrangements of Sir Henry Wood, Leopold Stokowski and Maurice Ravel to show why Ravel ultimately won the battle of orchestrations.
ALSO 70’S BAND EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER HAVE A WHOLE COVER ALBUM OF PICTURES OF AN EXHIBITION WHY DIDNT I KNOW THIS BEFORE

I subbed to your channel because of your open and very honest observations and opinions of music you've experienced. One version that most everyone on YT seems to ignore is Tomitas 1975 synthesizer reinterpretation. I don't think it's the best version but it is fun, lively and sometimes ponderous without being too deep. I always remember his almost cartoonish Ballet of the Chicks in Their Shells. If you haven't heard his version I think you should.

Oh, and the Horowitz transcription played by him is incredible. You should make a point of hearing it!

Ooh, haven't listened to Pictures at an Exhibition for a while. Thanks for the links. I wish there was a video with the pictures being shown while the music is played. And I've never heard of the progressive rock version, either.

That was a particularly great video from you. I loved the format of "decomposing" music as you talk about it and hope to see many more similar content on your channel. Keep up the good work :)

Nope, you're the only one ! Just kidding. I'm sure you weren't aware of the ELP version because you're so young. If you were my age (68) you would have grown up on it. ELP were one of the greatest "rock bands" ever and this was one of their signature pieces. Amazing they could make classical music work for hard core stoner rock-and-roll fans who didn't even realize they were listening to classical music. I'm glad you found them.

How about a video about Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain"? Apparently the most widespread version that we listen to has been rewritten by Rimsky-Korsakov.

The ELP version is awful. Or at least it deviates very far from the source. I would call it "inspired bt" the original versus an arrangement for a rock band. None the less that was my introduction to the piece tears ago, and what caused me to eventually be interested in classical music.
