No shade, Viktor Hartmann's paintings are nice, but HAVE YOU HEARD Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition!? Ultimately it was their relationship that inspired Mussorgsky to compose such an amazing piano piece, which later inspired many musicians to arrange it for orchestra.
In this video I look at the composition history and compare the different orchestra arrangements of Sir Henry Wood, Leopold Stokowski and Maurice Ravel to show why Ravel ultimately won the battle of orchestrations.
