When splitting a stump or a log, the best result is achieved by turning the piece with the roots side facing upwards. Due to the structure of the wood fibres, there will be less compressive resistance when force is applied to the underside of a tree's structure. This video is a prime example of wood's ability to absorb kinetic impact by creating a compressive resistance in near equal strength to the impact energy at the local point of impact. It also explains why the dart was hard to remove with such a small embedment (even with part of the stump knocked away by the force of the impact). The stump was literally gripping the tip of the dart. If the stump had been turned over with the root end facing upwards, the dart would have sliced straight through it and into the carpet underneath. Even an object as blunt as Thor's hammer would cause the stump to split apart if the root side was upwards.

Giant dart vs a long piece of pipe? put the pipe vertical, drop the dart, the dart will go inside the pipe and split the pipe into 4 pieces (pipe will be wide enough to fit the tip of the giant dart but not the fins)

An axe head really doesn't possess the pure physical destructive potential of that dart tip. Granted, a lot of that comes from downward momentum when it's dropped, but still, the pointy nature of the dart tip would cause way more damage to things falling on it than the axe head. Falling onto a spike tends to have a really brutal outcome. Just ask Vlad the Impaler, or the Vietcong.

Already decided, this is probably the best dart clip. Let's break it down to fully appreciate what just happened: First the dart goes through the seat, nothing too special, just happy the chair didn't give way and be pushed to the side. Then the tail of the dart starts pulling the chair down looking like it tried, but failed, to hold up something heavy. Then the arm rests pop off and spin a bit in place *exactly* like clothing items on a classic disney character speeding off after charging in place. Finally the chair is left pinned close to the ground. Chef's kisses, excellent.
