For the exact combination, 1 in 531,463 which would be about as likely as 2 people getting killed by fireworks. For 6 ties in a row it would be 1 in 729 which is close to the odds of being born with 11 fingers or toes :)

I didn't! But now I can't unsee it! It's so in sync with his right hand though I doubt it gives anyone an advantage, but yeah! It's weird, I've never seen anyone have the urge to make the symbols with BOTH hands before... not in Canada anyway.

I reckon 6 repeats in rock-paper-scissors happens once every 729 times. That's actually slightly less likely than getting 3 Golden Mushrooms in a row in MARIOKART WII!

COMMTEST: 9 total combos/possible outcomes in 1 game of RPS. Only 3 possible combos yield a draw (R-R, P-P, S-S) therefore likelihood of drawing 1 game = 3/9 or 1/3. You guys drew 6 games in a row, so odds of this is 1/3^6 = 1/729 (odds of drawing 6 games in a row). However, the odds of your particular 6 drawn games is 1/9^6 which equals 1/531,441 Cheers.

There are only 9 combos if you count, for example, R-S, different to S-R. If you count it this way then you are right but if not it would be 6 combos, therefore it'd be a 1/2^6 or 1/64 chance of that happening. Unfortunately it wasn't really specified in the video so we don't know whats right and whats wrong.
@janisfarhat9935
@janisfarhat9935 6 жыл бұрын
If there only 6 combos than the chances of a draw would be 1 in 2. That's a little unrealistic, don't you think? You have to count the R-S and S-R as two different combos.

Odds of choosing rock, paper, or scissors: (1/3) Odds of two people matching: (1/3)*(1/3)=(1/9) Three of nine possibilities end in matching (rock v rock, paper v paper, etc), so the odds of a match end up being (3/9), or (1/3). Odds of two people choosing matching 6 times in a row: (1/3)^6=(1/729) (1/729) is also around the odds of catching a baseball at a ballgame. It also happens to be the odds of Scott getting a girlfriend in the next two and a half years. Godspeed, Scott. Godspeed. Edit: Math error, thanks to those who corrected me
@dutchdrifter8740
@dutchdrifter8740 6 жыл бұрын
Trevor Brown 9 possible outcomes of wich 3 are identical. So the chance is 1/3. The chance of them both throwing stone (or both paper or scissors) is 1/9
@trevorbrown5714
@trevorbrown5714 6 жыл бұрын
good catch, never considered that. My probability is the odds of them randomly drawing the stone, paper, or scissors six consecutive times.

@dutchdrifter8740 6 жыл бұрын
Trevor Brown THAT would be amazing.
@jackgorenc6967
@jackgorenc6967 6 жыл бұрын
Technically you are right, if these attempts were completely separate and random. But, you have to consider the human element of it, and that people are less likely to pick the same choice two times in a row so it isn’t always exactly 1/3
@trevorbrown5714
@trevorbrown5714 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with your reasoning, but double-check your calculations. (1/3)^6 is 1/729, not 1/1464, unless I missed something. Thanks for catching my mistake, by the way

1 in 729, or 0.1372%. If you took this luck to Vegas, a rulette table with a relatively common $20 minimum starting buy in would get you roughly $10,240 in a couple minutes, assuming you went all in every time and stopped before you lost. 1/(3^6) = 1/729 = 0.001372 = 0.1372%. Roulette pays 2 to 1 if you bet on black or red, but you only have a 48% chance of winning because it could actually land on neither black nor red, but instead land on one of the two green slots that are there to tip the odds in the house's favor. Given your luck, you could win roughly nine rolls in a row, each time doubling your initial $20 buy in. .48^9 = 0.001353 = 0.1353% odds to win 9 in a row. $20 * 2^9 = $10,240.00 Given how many times I've tried, this is still better than my odds of getting pinned.

I sensed a pattern I that game of rock, paper, scissors: •SS •PP •RR (repeat) •SS •PP •RR (partial repeat) •SS •PR It kept going scissors, paper, rock until Scott broke the pattern... 🤔🤔 Idk if it was a coincidence or not, but nice video anyways
@dom1404
@dom1404 6 жыл бұрын
RJRozen yes its coincidence, BUT the odds are actually not high whatsoever!!! (This is accurate for MOST people) If the person plays rock, rock will most likely counter their next choice. If they play scissors, scissors will most likely counter their next choice. If they play paper, paper will most likely counter their next choice! Therefore, you just want to play whatever they just played!
@dom1404
@dom1404 6 жыл бұрын
But obviously, they didnt know about the pattern that is usually played. And so they played it! BOTH of them!😏 But of course, this pattern doesnt go on forever with one person. They eventually break the pattern, but it still gives you a big advantage to win most games.
@dom1404
@dom1404 6 жыл бұрын

You're about 5.7 times more likely to get a red suit 7 times in a row than you are to tie in SPR 6 times

completely wrong. 1/729 ≅ 0.1% chance. (26/52)*(25/52)*(24/52)*(23/52)*(22/52)*(21/52)*(20/52) ≅ 0.3%

Hey Guys! Your friendly neighborhood EPA scientist here again ;). The answer is 1/531441... Calculations below. The chances of ending in a tie in a game of rock paper scissors between two people (if assuming independence) is the same as the probability of both people picking a specific symbol, or 1 out of 3 for each person. So, for one game this is given as 1/3 chance x 2 people; or mathematically as 1/3 x 1/3. You both tied each other 6 times in a row, so the odds of doing that are given by 1/3^n for each person, where n is the number of ties, and in this case it comes out to (1/3^6) x (1/3^6) = (1/729) x (1/729) = 1/531441. In other words, 1 chance in 531,441 that that would happen! One in half a million! In terms of the greater world, that is about 1.2x the chances of being dealt a royal flush in poker or 1.5x the chances of being struck by lightning in a given year ... or about the same odds as being killed by meteorite impact with earth in a normal human lifetime of 70 years. Way to go on beating the odds for entertainment and science! P.S. #44Club apparently...

But he's wrong from the start. The odds of being the same the first time is 1/3. It doesn't matter what the first person picks, there's a 1 in 3 chance the second picks the same.
@naughtyskweet6
@naughtyskweet6 6 жыл бұрын
Is not 1/3 for each person. The odds of the first person picking either rock paper or scissors is 1. The odds the second person picks the same is 1/3. So it's 1/3^6. 1/729

they did a 3 way tie in the beginning then they had 1 win, and 6 consecutive ties before a single win. just counting the ties(referenced in the contest description), this 1/3^6 which is 1/729. 2 decks of cards is 52*52 which is 1/2,704 also even if it was 7 ties it's 2,187. then you have to take into account the entire game its an entirely different story at 1/177,147. I appreciate the fact you tried though.

The odds would be 1 in 729 :) you would do 1 in three to the power of 6 which equals 729, something with similar odds of being hit by a bus when crossing a street and not looking 😵
@hunterconrad522
@hunterconrad522 6 жыл бұрын
you have to do 1/9 to the power of 6, because there are two players.
@WesRidgley
@WesRidgley 6 жыл бұрын
Hunter Conrad it would be 1-3 as that’s the chance of getting a singular match , then the power of 6 would allow the probability of all the combinations x

Odds are not that bad. Consider the psychology of it People don't like to throw the same thing twice in a row, nor one of each in the first three. It's because it seems too predictable, even though it could actually be the winning move in many cases! Something that has similar odds is 5 ties in a row Rock Paper Scissors, as once you gat past 2 ties it usually leads to several more. The chances of it not being a tie decrease greatly after the second throw!
