My friend recently ( 2018) took over running the family barber shop founded by his dad in 1958. He still says that he appreciates his dad even more now. Being a barber is one thing. Being a barber and running your shop makes you step up. When he tells his dad that it's not as easy as he thought, dad laughs. But you learn and do it better. Great video. All those tips are on the point.

Don’t recommend commission barbershops to anyone unless theirs a cap of like 300-400 a week no matter how much you make a year….so if the owner wants to charge you 30-40 percent & your paying more than that a week, feel bad for you. The owner on the other hand is jumping like a LEPRECHAUN 🍀. Otherwise your paying way to much over the years. Once your paying 1600 a month it’s crazy, you yourself will be paying half if not more of the rent. Some owners want the money daily just so you won’t notice.
@ezbladeshavingproducts
@ezbladeshavingproducts Жыл бұрын
This all depends. Some barbershop locations you won’t be able to pay both rent. The rent for that location is price is to expensive. The both rent wouldn’t cover the rent. Also that location would have to bring value to the barbers meaning alway busy and the barbershop owner should be promoting

Dope video fam. I'm a fairly new barber shop owner, I'm about to have to do my first rent increase. How do I have that talk with the barbers? Is it best to talk as a group or pull each one to the side and talk 1 on 1 etc?

So do you collect your money from the barbers every week or month?
@gutierrezc8709
@gutierrezc8709 2 жыл бұрын
I would collect every week, unless they pay in full for a month. I guess you could cut them a deal if they pay in full for a month. Incentivize your business to your barbers.

For commission basis, will the barber be an employee if that's the case? If so, do you provide benefits like medical insurance, dental etc?
@ezbladeshavingproducts
@ezbladeshavingproducts Жыл бұрын
Sure some shops provide benefits. But you can get them on your own.

No, legally they are employees but the Department of Labor doesn't give a damn, and most barbers are too dumb to ask any questions. So 1099 their ass, set they're schedule, fine them for being late and missing days, set the prices, etc etc. Remember this is YOUR shop, goddamnit, u are king, and ur staff is subject to ur whims. Feel free to break every labor law in the book, and sit back and count ur money, lol..

Yeah, I know as a shop owner about the classification of workers and whether they are employees or booth renters. But, I have never understood how your shop is going to make it if the barbers are so independent minded that they feel they can just be in and out of the shop all day! Especially if the shop is all walk in like mine. You are never going to grow the business like that. Yours or theirs. They have to be willing to be there most of the time from opening in the morning until you close the shop. Or about 7 hrs. anyway if your working shifts. Unless they are part time of course. Of course having them as employees would fix this, but who can afford to match social security and all that's involved in that when you are not in an affluent area where you can get $30 for a haircut. I know from being in business that customers get really ticked off when they come by a few times and can never find their barber. So even booth renters somehow need to understand they need to be there during business hours, especially if they are not doing appointments. I would not be able to afford "employees" yet I cant have barbers breezing in and out all day at their whim.
