Thanks John, the background eraser tool is a great option for a fast fix. I personally prefer taking the time to do a clean layer mask using the Polygonal Tool but sometimes there just isn't enough time. George

An excellent tutorial - thank you. I used your techniques using Adobe Elements 2020 program. Successfully applied your techniques to change a plain blue sky to a 'stock' fair weather cloudy sky set against a background of hills and a more complex foreground of foxglove wild flowers which extend above the skyline. Time consuming - but what a rewarding result!

nice one george, as i was out with my camera yesterday and sky was not too clever,with a nice landscape a nice sky is very importance to the photo and this video will help me

Great lesson George, I don't use this tool often, mainly because I was not sure of the settings. Thank you for going over this, much better understanding. I do not have a steady hand, is there a way to make a straight erase line? Can you click and hold with some key like you can when you draw a line? Thanks Rich

Hi Rich, if you hold the Shift key down you can limit the Background Eraser Tool or the regular Eraser Tool to horizontal or vertical, or 45 degrees if you are really lucky. Just hold the key and then start moving the tool the direction you want and it will lock into a straight line until you let go of the shift key. But, if you are talking about the stove pipe in this image it is not an actual vertical line, it is slightly off to the left. The best way to erase along an angled straight line like this is to use the Polygonal Lasso tool to create a straight edge selection and then erase inside that selection. George

Thank you! You saved me a TON of time when you demonstrated the selection method with the Polygonal lasso tool. As of late, I have clearing selections using the content aware fill tool, that is a great little time saver! I think I even like it better than clone stamping for certain things. Thanks for the help on the straight line issue. Rich

You're welcome Rich, There are several great time saving tools in Photoshop Elements with the Content Aware Fill being one of the most useful. When it works it is brilliant. On my own projects, when I am not trying to demonstrate a particular technique here on KZfaq, I will usually use the Content Aware Fill first then clean that up with the Clone Stamp Tool. George

Hey George, I have your full tutorial course I purchased a few weeks ago and working through as fast as I can and can't recommend it highly enough- but am also coming across great KZfaq videos of yours - and want to try some of the techniques. I see you posted the link for the sky photo. Is the background photo available? I watched this video and would like to try it out.

Ok I got to the place to add the background pic. When I select it, it covers the original but it is the only pic in the layer panel. You have all 3 layers showing. I got one the background, even though the original is still behind it, it is not showing on panel. Help thank you.

It sounds like you have both files open, but not in the same project file but in separate files. Do this instead. Have your main file open then use the Place command in the File menu to place the second image into the main project file.
