The ocean is one of natures best playgrounds! However it can be extremely dangerous if you don't know what the dangers are, and how to avoid them. But worry no more! In this video we explain exactly how you can stay safe in the surf!

This is a great surf channel. Appreciate the effort. One of the scariest experiences I've had was surfing a beach break and not realising how shallow it was. Wiped out and landed hard straight leg. Spine did not feel right for an hour after that. Never knew much about surf safety back then. Thanks for the awareness.

Oh wow, i did this in the 1970's, as a kid, in Hawaii, where I've never found the south sides very rippy. But in 1990 I tried surfing at Kuta & Pura Uluwatu, where i got ripped each time, but not in any good way. It does make sense like before each wave floods in, water will rush out to feed it. Same would go for each set, or wave of waves, that much water rushes out between sets to feed the next set. How a "rip" fits into this, or even what a "rip tide" is, i dunno? Maybe i just got lucky avoiding getting swept out in Hawaii & got unlucky caught in wrong place consistently in Bali, that i don't even know. I just suspect the ocean dynamics are different in each place. For instance, Bali is in a bit of a straight, where Hawaii is out in mid Pacific. I hope folks who aim to get out there & try surfing will check this out for safe inspiration.

Bruh i just went out first time at 6am nobody at the beach alone and the rip was pulling me out and i couldn't catch a wave in so i struggled to paddle back but no luck then i expended energy then i started to panic because i was in a tip drifting nobody to help and out of energy but then i decided to try and stand up and there was the ground 6 feet below me so i walked in but if i would have waited i would have drifted too far to stand warn people

Sometimes when I missed a wave, or drawn into the sea by a big wave, I found it is so hard to go straight back the sitting area, cause too many white water flushing me to the shore direction, even I try to do beautiful duck dive, but I found I was still paddling at the same place with those endless white water. Finally had no choice but to go back to the shore and return from the other area. So, may I know how can I solve with the impact zoon problem, try practice padding and duck dive skill more or..? Thanks you very much

纷飞的大脚 yeah just improve paddling and conserve energy, so that you can paddle hard when the set stops and thus no white water. And then ‘rest’ when a set comes again. Try to paddle as far away from where the waves break-whitewater is the strongest there.

@@Experiment626XxX I saved a guy one time that got caught in a rip on a boogie board. I put him on my surf board and pushed him in. I was pretty exhausted by the time I got him in. I think most people don’t have enough respect for the ocean.

To add on DO NOT BELLY FLOP IF YOUR FALLING FROM THE TOP OF THE WAVE ESPECIALLY WHEN SHALLOW if your falling from the top of the wave DO NOT JUMP fall feet first at a 25° angle so you go flat and not hit the reef

Surfing safely for me as the owner of Tabata is about thinking twice about not wearing atleast a 3mm-2mm spring suit if in the tropics a neoprene vest there's reason see the warning that aehy was given is sum guy said when aehy was 16 years old "There was a surfer who dropped acid in the evening then decided to go for a night surf he got dumped then swam down and drowned" see with your wetty you bob up you'll possibly get disoriented.

Yes 100%, Not knowing how to swim can be very dangerous! Your not gonna be on your board paddling all the time; you can fall off, Leashes can get snapped and you lose your board and you have to swim in etc. So yes, Learn how to swim well before you go in the surf!

I would go as far to say not even just knowing how to swim, but to have VERY strong swimming skills and confidence. This is a good question as this does not occur to some people who want to start surfing.

I agree with the previous comments , it’s super important to be a good swimmer....however i’v surfed over 100 times now, at the same number of different beaches (travelling) and I can’t swim too good, I guess it’s luck nothing bad has happened and I’ve lost my board, but like the video says it’s risk assessment, don’t go out when it’s huge, don’t paddle out to far beyond walking distance, and learn to swim whilst learn to surf!

Not knowing how to swim and jumping into the sea is possibly one of the most dangerous things one can do. Even the most accomplished pool swimmers can panic in the surf as it can be unpredictable.
