New Puppy Tips - Surviving the First Week // Did you recently get a new puppy, need new puppy tips for puppy training? There are some essential things your new puppy needs and I want to make sure you get the right puppy supplies to start working on potty training and crate training for your new dog. When you bring a new puppy home you’ll want to make sure your house is puppy-proofed. You’ll need to know how to handle puppy biting and puppy barking while in the crate. In this video, I cover all the new puppy tips to survive the first week.

We have a cocker spaniel and a shih tzu and on the 22nd we pick up our double doodle (golden doodle and labradoodle). The tips are so helpful! We have a plastic crate... should I still cover it?

Thank you so much! My puppy is coming home soon and I want to help him grow into the best well-adjusted dog he can be. There is so much to teach him and I have been so worried about planning training time, whether I would end up giving him too much at once so he doesn't absorb it, or not nearly enough. Your videos have really helped me plan everything out more and relax a bit.

This is a great video, thank you so much for sharing! Our new puppy (which comes home with us on 4/25) is a Pyrenees/border collie mix. She will be about 8 weeks old. Since meeting her last weekend, I've been in full on puppy prep mode. Watching videos like yours helps to ease the anxiety of what's to come. I even inputed the puppy schedule in my Timely app to help me stay on top of her needs. Thank you again!

so glad I came across this video.. I've been exhausted getting up during the night to let him use the pads. I tried to take in so much information and got overwhelmed so I took a step back from watching them for that reason. I never knew it was this much work!

Hi Michele! Thanks so much for all the great content. I have a question about potty training and I am hoping you can help. I have a paved backyard, which is fenced in and accessible through my bedroom (so convenient for middle of the night potty breaks) and I am hoping to establish this as the potty spot for my new puppy. However, I am concerned that the pup won't like/or understand that this is where they are supposed to use the bathroom because they are used to going on grass. If so, do you think it would be better to establish the front yard (grassy area) as the potty spot? Thanks in advance!

Great video! Biggest issue, you kept suggesting other videos, rather than having brief information on them which was annoying. I came for insight on how to survive the first week with my new puppy, not to be told to go elsewhere.

Hi, thanks for these great tips! I have a question - you say in one of your videos that pee pads are an absolute no no as they give the wrong signals. We're about to get a miniature dachshund and we live 5 flights of stairs up in an apartment. We'll be taking him outside as much as possible but thought that pee pads would be a good back up if we don't make it downstairs in time / he needs to go in the night. What are your thoughts on that? Hey! We just got a puppy... we use pee pads at night and take him outside during the day. During the night, we take him out of the crate and put him in the pen with pee pads on the ground and he pees every time!

I plan to let my 2 month old Shih Tzu potty inside the house, because most of us are busy during the day. I hope that I remember to land him on the potty tray!

I rescued a puppy from a bad situation and we are starting at step 1. However I had dogs growing up so I’m familiar but puppies are totally different. Little babies

Hi I was just wondering if you use pens in the house don’t they have accidents in there unless you’re watching them every second and even then? As opposed to always putting them in crates instead until their potty trained? Thank you very much

If you're sticking to a potty schedule, your puppy should not have to go while in the pen. It is importnat not to leave them for too long while they are playing in there. The crate is for sleeping and resting, not playtime. Your puppy will need to stretch their legs and move more freely. This is what the puppy pen is for.
