Aaaahh.... The 'ol exploding flux pen trick! Who knew tgsoapbox was a comedy channel :) Never seen that happen before but you gotta' admit it was funny. Nice methodical troubleshooting work TG, looking forward to your next one.

I've been looking for one of these so I can properly service my power meters but don't really want to pay the unobtanium prices some sellers are asking for these things.

Yeah, crazy expensive prices - There was a thread over on EEVBlog I think about making your own using one of the plentiful blown sensor heads. Might be worth a look.

Peter of "Make or Repair" built his own range calibrator very similar to a 11683A. Did that calibrator come form the Air Force?

I got it from a DoD auction and the tag says AFTO so I would assume that it did but I can't prove that - I'm pretty there was a thread on EEVBlog where someone made their own as well.
