Hello Sorin. If you look at the video of the HP laptop closely. When you removed the main battery, underneath it on the top and left you can see a coin bios battery wrapped in plastic.So the laptop has a different bios battery. Thanks for the videos. I have learned a lot from you. I even fixed some difficult ones according to your instructions. Thanks again.

Hello Sir. I'm one your fans and I'd watched a lot of your videos though I'm still learning and electonics has been a hobby of mine. I just like to answer your question about "How would you reset a bios?" On HP., Key combination is " win key + v + power button for 3 sec and wait for the promts ( that is for cmos). After that.. Do a "win key+ b + power button" for 3 sec as well and wait for comfirmation(that is for bios). I hope it helps. Hi sorin, for reset :unplug the battery and after that hold down the power button for 1 min, then Release the button, after that try to turn on the laptop, i mean just click the power button to turn on, after that plug in the battery.

Wow, double shot Monday! Two repairs, one video.

I have the SAME laptop (Yoga 920-13IKB; except with an i7 CPU) with the SAME issue. Won't power-up and no charging LED, completely dead. I measured the same resistor shown at 42:11 in the video, and only get 5.4 volts on mine--it should be 20v! Also the large chip at location 'U34' (flip side, when you remove the board) gets very warm on my board, around 35-40 C! Tried two different chargers, same results, so it's something on the motherboard. Any idea what it could be? Just a simple capacitor or resistor at fault, or could it be the chip at U34? (the chip at U36 also gets a little warm too).

You are lucky one. In my shop I almost never get these kind of jobs. Frozen super IO maybe 1 of 30 jobs, bad 19v power rail 1 of 20 approximately. You get those 95% :)

Some laptops from Acer started to have a pin hold in the bottom that if your poked a pin through would disconnect the battery for as long as you held it down so at least with them you didnt need to take the laptop apart just to remove the battery for a few minutes.

Sorin, it does not make sense. On the HP laptop you unplugged the main battery but the BIOS battery was still plugged in if you look carefully under the big battery.

Sorin the laptops SIO stands for "Sorry I'm Out" call back when I'm in!!!!

On the lenovo if you hold in the small button next top power it will reset, but if completely locked up you need to disconnect the battery.

I think Lenovo has done something to screw up people who upgrade their SSD... First time I upgraded the SSD in my Yoga 920 13IK, the unit wouldn't come on at all. I had it sitting in its box with the new SSD and figured I'd have to bring it in for repair. But when I checked back after a month, it booted up just fine (I had cloned the original disk onto the new SSD before installing it. Maybe the battery drained completely over the course of the month? I don't know why it suddenly started again and it worked fine ever since. Today, I upgraded the SSD again. Its not booting again! This time, I wanna know why you can't install an SSD without turning the damned YOGA thing into a Zombie...

The manufacturer could fix that fault. What you could have is a circuit that told it the bios was frozen, to shut off power to the io chip to remove power from the bios battery for one minute until a capacitor to the bios had been down to a certain voltage to open the battery circuit again. Might be a difficult circuit to trouble shoot because if you went in and disconnected the battery it still wouldn't release a frozen io because the capacitor would keep the chip frozen. Of course a transistor that needed two inputs would let you remove the battery to unfreeze it. More complexity.

Used to be - don't know if it is still effective - Another way to reset - remove battery, disconnect power - press and hold power button for 10 secs. Then reconnect all and power on. It used to work on laptops, was very effective.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro .power button and it goes to to diagnostic then repair and restarts and does all over again. tried to usb with windows wont do . just keeps restarting. help plz

Sorin, isn't it possible to reset on multiple brands and models by holding the power button for 10-30 seconds? many HP laptops support that.

I understand your frustrations, there will come a time when you will no longer be able to fix things without scematic, as the chips carry both the main power lines and data lines, and scematics will be difficult to get,the more you will have to work with the multimeter

I have an HP Pavilion 15-ab292nr Motherboard I need 2 capacitors and 2 resistors. Can I use any donor board from HP Pavilion 15-ab Motherboard as long as the capacitors and resistors look the same? I cant find the schematic.

Try button "mute" and "power" for 15-20 second, it work for HP Elitebook.

Battery label says 11,4V ... not 19V. Windows trying to update Windows "Don't power off". Bios hung during Update. Battery X-ed screw say's "Don't use this jet"... it's for the BOTOM cover screw.

Im having a similar problem no power no light have change the charging port but still no luck...

On much of them is possible. remove the bat. and the psu... Then u need to push and hold the power button around 20 sec.

Sorin, Lenovo YOGA 920-13IKB, (2 in 1) £1300, the screen folds fully back to make a tablet. Lenovo are copying apple with charging sillyness and tiny pcb. Not easy to repair.

The Yoga has a touch-screen. I bet the connector you didn't find the flat-cable for is for the touch. Please try the touch before returning it to the client or you will be sure to get it back!

Easy job. laptop with dead chipset or graphic IC its come to me allways :( .Never easy job for me. I dreaming for frozen IO, or power supply issues... :D

HP has recovery mode push and keep pushing the windows button + B then power the laptop.

52:19 scean look superior to regular 1080p, because it has glass reflective not like regular anti glar mat screans. better colors higher image quality and touch but awfull reflection when you watch dark content "batman like stuff"

Lenovo has problems with power management. The USB-C ports on the left of the computer power up the laptop.. They are a beautiful Lap top but The power is an issue. I have had over sic of these. I agree they should separate the data lines from the power lines. I would check and update the BIOS IN one laptop I had to swivel the USB connector 180 degrees for the charging light to come on. I fi9nd getting access to the SSD is be painful also

Lenovo have a major problem with power. Motherboard problems are common. Most issues are with the BIOS. The button on the side is a reset button.

I noticed the missing screw from the last Yoga rolling around by your dishrag under the laptop. Ya'll couldn't find it and ya'll blamed it on the last opener. Tsk tsk tsk.

I've been watching a lot of your videos since my laptop ( Toshiba l-50) shutdown after I "accidently" used a completely wrong adaptor , and now it won't start . I literally disconnected everything from the motherboard and checked the basic stuff with a multimeter which seem to work . is a motherboard in a situation like this still repairable? or is it possible that it's completely dead and the easiest way is to buy a new one ? best regards.. stupid no knowledge fan

Salut , incerc sa gasesc defectul unei tablete samsung gt P5200 , dupa un green screen s-a oprit si nu mai fuctioneaza( am incercat metodele de reset/factory default cu combinati de butoane daar nimic ...Pc o recunoaste ca cloverview device. Am masurat cu multimetru volatage la rezistentele de pornire si dau ~5v conform unui manual de service pt modelul asta . @Am schimbat conectorul usb si bateria ,a incarcat bateria era 3.2v initial acum 3.9v. ?Intrebarea? e normal ca connectorul bateriei sa aibe doar 0.95v cand nu este conectata bateria, nu se afla in mod charging?... Multumesc
