I worked at HP when these scopes first came out. We were all very excited to see HP’s revolutionary new digital scope. But I remember most of us were rather disappointed in the implementation. The membrane front panel keys didn’t provide enough tactile feedback, and the user interface didn’t seem very intuitive. Many of us preferred the knobs and switches of the old analog scopes. Overall, it’s still a great scope. I’m glad you could get it working again. Thanks for showing us this important piece of test equipment history.

This one is one my hot list.

I have two of these scopes. Considering when this model was designed it has many of the features of a modern scope. While the user interface is a bit different to a modern scope, once you get used to how it works, it is logical. In the video at 9:40, the leaked capacitor here is common from my experience. This capacitor and the other one on the left side of the custom chip in both my units were bad. The corrosion from one capacitor was so bad that it had completely disconnected one of it's own lead wires. At 16:05 like you I was surprised that the battery is still good after 40 years, the voltage was in spec and no leakage inside the battery box. The channel 3 / 4 plugin also has one of these batteries which was good as well. The date codes on the batteries I have are 1983. At 16:18 you mentioned the heatsink, but you should have removed it for a look inside. Most if not all of the pass transistors for the six or seven regulators are located within the heatsink! So, if you ever have a blown pass transistor that heatsink is where you will find it.

150W... scopes has come a long way. Really an interresting scope. When playing with triggering on the block of keys on the right it seems it is divided into two sections, You only used the keys to the left not at all the keys to the right. It doesn't say channel 1 and 2 but maybe it is one set for each channel. Now it is my turn to say "I don't know". Have a nice sunny and warm saturday here in Denmark and thanks for the view.

I used it for a while in the lab but in the end it was really more of a lab ornament or museum exhibit when compared to today's technology. Downsides: sounds like a rocket, and drifts like crazy!
