HP Z6 (G4) Workstation Overview

I recently picked up an HP Z6 workstation that I would like to use for future content, not the least of which will be some interesting upgrade videos. But in this video I want to show the machine as I received it before any of the future upgrades take place. Please note that this is not a comprehensive overview of the computer and all of its capabilities and features, nor will this go into depth about how to work on the machine and perform any servicing.

the network connector is for an optional 10gbe network port

Did you figure out the RAM fan connector? I'm trying to get this board working without the expensive HP add-on. I heard you can jump 12v from a system fan to to the RAM fan connector in order to trick it, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Keep the videos coming with your upgrades. I purchased one with two CPU's. Came with a GTX 750ti GPU. I'm looking at either a RTX A4000 or A5000 GPU. I'm not planing on gaming with it. Video/audio work. So far I've purchased three M.2 drives. The third is going in the Z Turbo Drive Pro. I would like to see your upgrades.

CPU should be the first one, since I already did the GPU that’ll be more than usable enough for the time being. That, or ram. Not sure which yet.

Hey bro, can you check the temperature around the PSU? Don't know why each time i touch my hand to PSU it very hot 😳 thinking to make a Noctua for it, CPU & VGA around 50°C only

I got one at 200 bucks from E-waste recycling center in san jose the surprising thing is this one has prototype board and non fcc approved version this unit has 28 core 2.5GHz engineering sample cpu and I dumped bios firmware from my unit if you need this file just ask me I’ll give this file for free

Got this with dual cpu + RTX 3080 and it destroys every game lol

i have same one, nut upgrading will cost much of money. Its a still recent computer. I put rtx3060 ti inside and have xeon 4114. But gpu dont have real fps in the games like in "normal" computer. So its a lover and i dont know how to fix that.

$320 before tax, free shipping. I think the sales tax brought it to $344 even

@@jwoolery99 Just managed grab one off ebay same cpu/ram but with wx3100s, 220 after tax and shipping. has some cosmetic scuffs and dings on the shell but all working.

I bought a HP Z6 G4 and having isuses. For some reason, it's not recognizing all the DIMM slots which are populated. Even after I move DIMM's around it's only recognizing the same slots.

Hp Z6G4 use Ram ECC Register only, remember "Register" , i also using it😊

I am running a z440 and did not have the cpu mounted correctly then it was not realizing my fourth slot correctly. So I just reseated the cpu. I think on 3647 it is even more delicate. So you might wanna try remounting. If it recognizes some of your sticks should be fine with all of em I suppose.

That’s what it came with as factory equipment, and that how I bought it from eBay with the intent to upgrade it to something else.

@@jwoolery99i also bought Hp z6G4 some days ago, with T600 vga card. Does it can be stack with Nvidia Tesla P100 vga card? (no output)
