It's finally here! Sorry about all the confusion with the upload, guys. KZfaq's copyright claim system can be really exasperating at times. Here's hoping it stays up - I've submitted a dispute reminding the studio that it's fair use, and if they're reasonable (which I think they will be), the video should be here to stay.

If they take it down again you should dispute it, it could be protected under fair use laws because you are technically using the film's visual and audio for review purposes, which is what fair use covers

Has anyone thanked Houston for his astonishing work he's crafted here? Seriously nobody seems to appreciate the hours that he must've put into crafting this constructive review of: TSLOWM. This movie is definitely in my top three (just cause saying it's my all time favourite it's too definitive). He spoke to me so much that I actually stepped out of my comfort zone, went on an adventure so much bigger than me and overcame my panic attacks. And believe ir or not, the rental place gave me a red car 🙂 Thanks for this vid, it was nice to learn more about this wonderful movie.

I'm so in love with the movie that even going through it with you by this video makes my eyes teary. Honestly I cry every time I watch it, not because of any sad scene but purely because of its beauty. Thank you for pointing out all of these amazing things about the movie. This is, and will be, my most favourite movie, everything about it has its own meaning and I keep discovering them no matter how many times I watch. I think "The secret life of Walter Mitty" movie itself is a ghost cat also. People who get it appreciate it the most, not because it gets high rating or good critics.

I have come 4 years late to say thankyou for this beautifully crafter essay on this movie. That ending and reveal wrecked me to my core, because i had arrived at the same conclusion as you did. To take time to appreciate the beautiful things all around us no matter how big or small their contributions are to our lives, because in the end, they all matter.

thank you. I really liked this movie and the second half of this analysis took the words right off my mouth. it's not just the generic "live life to the fullest", it's also about the beauty we often don't see in ourselves.

This is truly is a “feel good“ film, a romantic comedy, a movie about adventure and discovery, and it’s kind of a “coming of age“ tale. But none of those are bad things. I know that calling it a “coming of age” story doesn’t really seem applicable because Ben Stiller/Walter Mitty is a middle-aged man. But that’s exactly what this movie is. It’s about a man who grew up, but due to pre-maturely taking on very mature responsibilities was not able to develop into the man that he *wanted* to become, and instead grew into being the man he *needed* to be for his family, and never got back to being the person he always *intended* to become. And how many of us can tell that same story? How many of us grew up with set of interests, values, and goals, that ultimately had to put to the side in order to do the things *that we have been told* we need/have to do. And this adventure is about a man who isn’t necessarily “lost”, but is still finding his way in the world, and realigning his values to match his desires, and aspirations. And if anything, the fact that he is middle-aged only adds to the intentions of the movie. Because it reaffirms that *no matter how old and set in your ways you are, it’s never too late to discover and pursue adventure, and a life and existence that fills you with purpose.* And while it’s not the most difficult thing to grasp onto, doesn’t mean it isn’t impactful. I feel like people dinged the movie for crafting and experience that people can easily recognize. And while it may be a little bit hipster-y, it never attempts to assert its self to be overly deep, and it doesn’t come off as hokey, overly-cheesy, preachy, or pretentious. The fact that a lot of review were‘s interpreted the movie as “trying“ to be deeper than it actually was, despite the fact that the movie isn’t “trying“ to do that at all, kind of reaffirms the fact that while the main themes may be easily recognizable, there is a deeper meaning and more complicated feelings. And one thing that I noticed and appreciated what is the theme of “beautiful things don’t ask for attention“. And I like how that phrase is an analogy for Walter, at least in some ways. I would go deeper into that, but this comment is already for too long, and no one will ever read it anyways. I’m just saying, that despite what critics may have said, there is undoubtedly more than just the obvious and central themes to take away from this film.

never thought of it as a coming of age film but that makes so much sense, and the fact that he is middle aged adds so much weight to that genre, I'm surprised more films don't do that

I know it's reeeaally late but i just wanna say THANK YOU VERY MUCH. this is one of my favorite films but anyone i know just hate on this movie because they said that the character's motivation doesn't make sense and not well calculated, the film isn't realistic, etc. I mean, of course it's not that realistic, the guy daydreams a lot! I first like this film because of the beautiful longboarding scene and the cinematography, but gradually fallen in love because of the somehow atmospheric music that accompany the journey, and somehow i can personally relate much to walter's character especially to his constant daydreaming (it's like also there's an admiration for walter because of his seemingly bad calculated decisions, i think it also speaks greatly about walter's sense of adventure, also his development into a person who's willing to steps out of his daily life and take risks), and idk i just feel this "warmth" in my heart everytime i watch this movie and i love it (sorry this comment got a bit long)

About your point at the end... LIFE's motto told us that the whole time, kind of sad that so few people understood that. "To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life." Se behind walls. Draw closer. Find each other. To Feel. I read it as things beyond our own worldview, things that scare us, people that we see as different... when we get to know them and find who they truly are we will feel for them as they will feel for us. It wasn't the purpose of LIFE, it's the purpose of Life.

I don't know why I'm only just finding this video but I'm so glad it exists. A bit late on this, but I just wanted to interject and say that "stepping into the unknown" is the message of the film. I mean, yeah, that's a pretty major theme in the film, but I percieved it as a story about figuring out who you are and finding yourself. The movie is just straight up two hours of Walter journeying to "find himself" both metaphorically and literally. At least I'm hoping that was one of the meanings behind him eventually "finding the lost negative" since I wrote an entire essay on it for my year 12 english essay. I just like that all the effort he went through was to find a picture of himself, I think the double meaning is pretty cool. AND YES, I WILL DEFEND THIS MOVIES INTEGRITY WITH EVERY OUNCE OF PASSION I HAVE, CUZ IT'S GOD DAMN AMAZING.

One of my all time favourite movies, the production, the sound, the music, the colour palette, the actors and overall feeling and emotion it brought to me. This is just one of a rare few movies I can watch any time and day of the week and usually watch at least twice a year. The last time I watched it with my daughter of 11 and she understood what the movie stood for which surprised me more then expected. It's a underestimated movie which not everyone appreciates but at least me and my daughter can share this movie together. Loved how you picked it apart and have it resonate a bit deeper for people to understand.

YAY! Finally a video about one of my favorite movies! I have never left a movie theater so utterly and completely... I don't know. Like, I felt like I hadn't fully grasped everything yet and was floating on a cloud, but nonetheless left with a feeling of wanderlust and amazement. The cinematography was absolutely beautiful (framing, scene transitions... everything) and the COLORS. COLORS!!! The music was grand, worked perfectly with the music and... it felt like I was at a concert, getting goosebumps. And the acting is also really good. I'm not usually a Ben Stiller person, but he really got into the forlorn and detached aspect of the character (as well as the larger-than-life persona he would have in his daydreams). I just- Yeah. Thanks for making this video!

love this so much! I remember seeing parts of this film when it first came out and immediately wrote it off as a generic feel good movie. but then earlier this year I saw a youtube video about it and decided to check it out and I've watched it 2 or 3 times so far. Just loved the movie so much and it definitely spoke me to me personally, so when I started reading the negative reviews people had given it, I was so shocked lol. It's nice seeing someone really articulate how it's not just about "getting outside your comfort zone" but about seeing and recognizing the beauty of the everyday 😭👌

You only missed one thing. In the beginning Cheryl talked about how she went to a class on on writing detective novels. Then, on viewing the film a second time, you see the blatant clues left everywhere. Like the photo negative of water fading into the scene of Walter sitting by the fountain. Clearly they are implying that that photo WAS the water. The obsession with the piano, the cake that his mother talked about and the sailors ate, it all all makes sense in the second watching.
