In this video, I take the lousy potentiometer from the HP 432A Parts Mule and disassemble it for a good cleaning.

Cool, first time I've seen inside a 10-turn!

Thanks - I didn't point it out in the video but you can see the cut out in the edge of the copper on the carriage that fits over the wire - I'm not sure if it is there to clean the wire or to keep things aligned but I hope I got it aligned correctly when I reassembled it as it was hard to see inside while doing that. I also think that the wire is a nichrome wire but I couldn't find a data sheet so that is just a guess. Glad you found it interesting.

Great, thanks for sharing. After cleaning, did you apply some grease again on the spiral? The slight scratching sound on the windings sounded very well again, for my ears. Anyhow, as in most cases this wiper is worn, those potentiometer won't operate reliably any more. Good that you have replaced it, anyhow.

Yes I used Deoxit F100L to lubricate the wire and contact - Will keep it as a spare rather than use it in the 432 - I bought a Bourns 3590S-2-503L as the replacement part. Should be here in a few days.

Yes, I know - It was spur-of-the-moment stuff to record.
