In this video I show how to troubleshoot and potentially replace the power button board on a Inspiron 5559 laptop. The board in this laptop was just a little loose or misaligned. I reinstalled it and it is working fine.
This is the one I have. It has the same 64bit set along with some other useful tools and a carrying case.

Thank you, Michael. This was very informative, and I too was able to fix my Dell Inspiron 5555 P51F laptop. The button was bad on our laptop, wouldn't 'click' anymore. Got the part from Dell, with tax, free shipping, for under $11. So, you helped me save ALOT of money!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The computer power cord kept getting yanked out until I couldn't get the power cord to go into the jack. The video for power button was the same delicate surgery for the power jack as well. I bought one on Amazon for under $6 and I'll be up and running in a few minutes after that. Thank you for not blocking all of the screws and a huge thank you for showing the dell specs as well.

I decided upon a frontal approach. I’m an ER doctor so I took oscillating cast saw a cut 2.5 x 3 cm rectangular hole around on/off button, pried it off using a Leatherman Wave utility tool, then pressed underlying button, and it turned on. Doesn’t look too bad. You had to go back to get one misplaced screw, I would’ve done that a few times before throwing computer into ocean. At least I knew what to be looking for after seeing your video, so thanks all the same.

I replaced the power button board on my Dell model 5558. Even though I had the manual, I couldn't have done it without this video. Many thanks! The only problem I had was getting the antenna leads back on the WiFi module. Initially, after repair, the computer would not run without the charger being plugged in, but removing the battery and holding the power button down for 20 seconds before reinstalling the battery, solved that issue. But it's all back together; everything works. So for $15 and some time, it saved $$ and the anxiety of outside computer repair.

Same problem here with Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop, model 5758. Purchased 6/2015. Talked to Dell customer service...they will fix it for $159, out of warranty. Jerks! Service rep stated this is a known problem....but is unwilling to say it's a design flaw so they won't fix it for free. Strange because my employer has several of these same laptops and 2 of 5 of them have the exact same problem. It's a racket! Thanks for the video!

It's just a very small phillips head. You can also use a very small flat head to get those out. Go on Amazon and search for ifixit tool kits. If you want to spend less look for cheaper versions of their toolkits on Amazon.

I'm having the same exact problem and followed the manual by the letter to get to the power-button until I got to the base cover. After getting all the screws out and popping out the hinges, there was something in the middle holding the base cover down. It wasn't a screw since I got all the 15 screws the manual talked about and no other was in sight. It was as tight as glue. I couldn't risk trying to pry it open by force so I just gave up. Going to check with a professional shop to see how much it's gonna cost me. Technology is really made to be replaced instead of fixed these days...

Derail You may not be pulling hard enough after removing the screw. It's also possible that you have a slightly different model laptop and there may be another screw that you need to take out before removing the DVD drive. Find the model number of your Dell on the bottom of the laptop and do a search for that model number and the words service manual on Google to find the service manual for your laptop. It will have the instructions for how to disassemble it.

This is the issue with these power button boards. Dell adheres a tiny piece of black plastic over the button to sit between the plastic button on the palmrest and the button on the power board. Over time these work loose. Have one sitting in my shop right now, just going to buy a new board for it, only $15.

thank you dont need the power button fixed but how much would be different to replace the dc connector
@MichaelTheComputerGuy
@MichaelTheComputerGuy 7 жыл бұрын
The DC jack connects to the motherboard through a cable. It's about $10. You would have to almost complete disassembly the computer to get to the DC jack. The service manual shows how. Before you do that make sure the issue you're having is with the DC jack in the motherboard. Often times if the computer won't charge the problem is the AC adapter. It's much easier to replace.

go eat some rasins Read through the manual and see if it's something you might want to try. Otherwise you need to find someone close to you to do the work. The price on something like this to actually get it done depends on where you live and how you take it too. As cheap as $50 as much as $150. I do it for $70.

Thanks for the awesome video! Just fixed this issue with my dad. However, if anyone is watching this video with this problem they also need to watch this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbhjZbCStreyl40.html Michael got lucky and there wasn't an issue with the button but there is a flaw the other video above talks about. I used JB Weld to fill the gap between the button and power button and it has been working so far! Thanks again!
