so many people hate on this show but, it along with Gundam gave me my love for Mecha Anime

(GROUNDS STARTS TO TUMBLE.....SEWER CAPS STARTS TO FLIP IN THE AIR)..... DUSTON: NOT AGAIN!...ITS THAT BLACK MEGADEUS AGAIN!!! ROGER SMITH: BIG O!!!... ACTION!!!....

This is one of the best 'Realistic' Mecha anime. The machines actually FEEL big, because they don't dart around like humans, they don't act like people in suits. They're massive, they move around like lumbering Titans! When they hit one another, there's a real sense of impact! Yes, they have some weapons that are out there, but never truly ridiculous. Laser eyes? It's a giant f*** off robot, lasers are part and parcel. Heavy laser cannons, same point. Pipe bunker punch? It's a massive piston with a release valve around the fist, I think something like this is possible now, if woefully impractical. Giant Gatling guns in the arms, odd placement considering the pile bunker, but okay, standard issue for giant Mecha. Even Big Fau had an interesting take on the classic Rocket Punch, but it's still well designed enough to not be too much to believe. In the water, it's a TORPEDO Punch, so it's unique, because I think Big Fau was meant to be amphibious, so it fits perfectly. The story towards the end got kind of weird, but in the end, it still worked. A unique take on noir detectives mixed with science fiction and giant robots, and every so often it had a little levity, something to laugh at and give character to the cast in a way that's rarely so effective these days. Big O is one of the all time classic greats in Anime history, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. And the crown on top of it all, was a fantastic musical score for each and every scene. I don't think it'd be possible to do something quite like this again, and that's why it's a little bittersweet. They could only do it once, but damn, did they do it right.
