I also make sure I stick to a schedule daily. -Garden in the morning (my workout) -Light house work-loading laundry in machine. -Cook meals for lunch/dinner -Schedule a break -More house chores -each day I tackle different chores as to not over do it any particular day. Make time to read and relax away from TV.

I know from experience that without a sensible schedule you can make a "dogs breakfast" of your time and energy. I will use yours as a guide. There is nothing like light stretching and exercise first thing to wake up the body and mind. Ten minutes is all it takes. No need to get out of breath. This much I have learned!!

Great tips Will tx. I removed caffeine sugar and processed foods from my diet, and 1st thing out of bed do the McGill Big 3 stabilizing exercises then head out for a walk with my dog around 6 ... wait till 8 for breakfast and any resistance stuff mid morning. I make meals and do chores etc and get another walk in after dinner so around 7000 steps which for me with hip injury and sciatica at 68 is really good. After a really tough 18 months 1st summer I can enjoy and poor Kiwi the Wonder Dog is ecstatic!

Totally agree with exercising soon after waking up. I started doing this recently and I do feel much better for it. It was very difficult at first (and I only do it a few times a week) but I just built it up slowly over a number weeks and didn't push myself. Also it just makes me feel better psychologically and it frees up time later on in the day when I would have normally exercised.

I have been doing 20 minutes of yoga when I wake up every morning since I was in my 60s. I’m now 73 and still do my yoga before breakfast every day. It gives me a great deal of energy and feels very good. I can still walk a few miles at a time in the late morning usually. But sometimes take a day off as my body seems to need a day off from walking a couple of times a week for the last year. Your points are helpful. Thank you!

My energy levels improved immensely when I cut most of the carbs out of my diet. Even the 'complex' carbs (a bowl of slow cooked, steel cut oats in the morning, makes me ravenous 2 hours later, not good). Completely unexpected! It got rid brain fog I didn't know I had, it dramatically improved my musculoskeletal and inflammatory pain. Not for everyone, but to be completely dismissed either

Wow .. this is really good advice ... very doable The drinking .. I drink water throughout the night .. no big deal But I do find by doing a somewhat heavy workout .. whether it be with boxing or using KBs .. i sleep much better at night This also includes when i get home .. walking by the KBs (each time) - I do some curls, over head presses, squats etc ... I don't count or do sets .. maybe 3-5 at perfect form Or 3 rollups of forearm rolls with the 5kbs KB ... By the time i go bed I'd have done maybe 20 in total of movements using weights. I do fall asleep quickly ...

Depends on the person if coffee is good for you. I learned coffee is very bad for me because I metabolize coffee quicker. My mother can have multiple cups then take a nap. She's a slow metabolizer. Coffee can raise cortisol in some. Diabetics should avoid it.

What helps me get consistent is to make everything ready before the task. Make a schedule. I often don't feel like it, but make myself do it a few minutes at the scheduled time. Then, I often continue. Observe the feeling before and after. When I know that I feel so much better after it is easier to do it again. And again. 😊

I like tea first thing in the morning, I know it's not quite the same hit as coffee, but still not ideal I guess. Ok to continue or better off skipping. And secondly what do you think of napping? I usually nap, and have been doing so for quite a while, but I do feel like again maybe it's not ideal, but would like to hear your thoughts, if you have time.

I did not know that about coffee, I'm going to try to delay my first cup. I have a hard time even remembering my name or finding my way to the kitchen in the morning so we shall see.

Will, can you do a video on flights of stairs or floors. I try to get a least 35 floors in a day, sometimes I get 120 floors in a day. I also get at least 10,000 steps in a day. Is the floors count as good as a hiit class on walking?

This is a bit of outdated thinking tbh. Similar to delaying the coffee, it's usually better to delay breakfast too. Look into intermittent fasting for which they are a tonne of videos out there for. I'm not a hardcore proponent of this but it definitely has some benefits, basically delay your first meal, and don't leave your last one very late, would be a good starting point

Most people get sleepy after a big meal, so that 3-2-1 rule seems strange.

My gym is near to shops so I find tagging a trip to the gym easier. Sometimes I just spend 30 mins working a specific body part. If I feel like a proper session then I’ll do a class as it’s more social or do a longer gym session.

Does your advice about coffee apply to tea too? Our habit is to start the day with a cup of tea.

Generally tea has less caffeine so probably not so applicable, I would've thought. :)

If you can go early I'd go early, for a few reasons, but easily the biggest reason is less chance of missing your session, you still have evening time to go if something comes up in the morning for example, and also less tired earlier in the day

I used to be a gym member, but gave it up for hiking instead. Gyms can provide a social aspect but I think it is better to be in the fresh air.

Good tips. Im a retired expat living in Thailand. Wake early. Need my coffee (sorry) right away. And a small bfast. Then out the door, 11500 steps. Resistance bands later. Try to limit sugsr stuff. Diet ok, some supplements. But feel great, all ok. Always good weather here. Thanks for the information.

Bizarre that you don't like it. Tbh this advice can be found multiple times in other channels, all seems to make sense to me. On the voodoo part, he did say some of it was just based on his own observations rather than necessarily backed up by scientific study, but I do think the advice is on point. What parts specifically are voodoo for you? 🤔

Really excellent tips. I watch a lot of your videos because you explain things really well and nothing is exaggerated. Since retiring I am going to the gym at least 3 times a week and indeed, the morning sessions are the best. Even though I am definitely not a morning person, I do notice that I feel amazing after the session. I am currently having a problem with plantar fasciitis so I will see if you have any videos on this annoying and painful problem. Easily the best after 50’s health videos on KZfaq, well done.
