ABOUT KEPPIE
Hi I'm Keppie! I'm a professional songwriter, and songwriting teacher. I've been teaching song and lyric writing for over 10 years now for some of the best contemporary music colleges in the world- Berklee Online, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Open Academy, as well as for the Australian College of the Arts. At other times, I've taught for the Australian Institute of Music, as well as the LA School of Songwriting.
My goal is to help people write better songs! My experience in the classroom, with thousands of students at this point (many going on to find careers and success in music), is that your songwriting, like all things, can get better with meaningful, deliberate practice. My intention is to share the skills, knowledge, information, and ideas that I've gathered with anyone who wants to improve their songwriting.

ABOUT BENNY
Hi I'm Benny. My passion for music and creativity stretches across multiple disciplines and art-forms. I am a founding member and songwriter / lap-slide guitarist for one of Australia's best and most bearded country-bluegrass-folk bands, THE GREEN MOHAIR SUITS. To date the Mohairs have released 4 full-length albums and tour both nationally and overseas.
I am also the Founder and Head Producer of SILAMOR STUDIOS, a boutique studio specialising in Composition for Film, TV and Interactive Media. I write extensively across various instrumental and lyric-based genres and has been commissioned for major projects by Adobe, Cathay Pacific and Audible. I currently release original songs under the name SILAMOR.
I am also passionate about education and have taught song and lyric writing as well as film composition for JMC Academy, Collarts and the Australian Institute of Music. I design and regularly facilitate workshops on creative process and innovation.

I love when he gets all deep into the 3rd most important thing for building songs and concludes with "the one thing that's important is that you have to be able to have songs" lol

This was an interesting discussion. At one point someone mentioned the "threshold" to get paid with streams, and i think this kinda sums up the problem. The should be no threshold. The technology exist to let everyone get paid fairly for your amount of listens. All you have to do is build it around a blockhain model where you pay to listen and also utilize bit-torrent-like tech. Then the system can't be gamed as listening "farms" would have to pay more to listen then it would earn them. Why the tech isn't leveraged to make this happen, i'm not sure, i guess there are two many vested interests. I think the only solution is to have a parallel, fair system, and hope that it supersedes the crappy, unfair system over time.

70% of the way through and everything is about artists and releasing music, what about writers who are not artists?

Exactly. I'm at about 25% of the way through & just saw your comment. I would've liked to have seen more information for what one of the guests referred to as a "pure" songwriter. This seems more geared to artist promotion.

Great insight! That all sounds like it would make sense - if you're not just a songwriter, but a fully formed artist. What about the songwriters that don't have their songs as high end mixes ready to distribute? What if you literally just have your songs. What's the route then?

Great show guys. I’ve only just stumbled upon your channel and I’m loving it, but still catching up with all your previous videos. I’m a 60s child and an old novice songwriter and wondered what’s the best way to get songs critiqued and see where I’m going wrong or what improvements can be made. I’m not after a musical career at my age, I just want to try and get better at song writing and need some guidance. Keep up the great show. Thanks!

Poetry writing book request: on an earlier video you explained the affects of abab rhymes and aabb. That opened understanding poetry to me. I think that if young poets understood why the selection of rhymes, and rhythm and rhetoric, I would finally be able to understand and write great poetry. Is there a book you could recommend - or write. Thank you.
