The Hu is a Mongolian folk metal band. The instruments are traditional. Not sure what they are called, but they sound amazing. It all blends so well with their throat singing. The version of Wolf Totem is a remake of the original adding in Jacoby's English vocals. I love the original but this makes for an interesting enhancement for sound, and likely more commercial for the US and other English speaking markets. Lzzy Hale has an amazing vocal range, so Song of Women is perfectly suited to her. Hopefully this sort of collaboration will help The Hu gain more attention. This sort of thing reminds me of what Apocolyptica did with featured artists on vocals. If you're not familiar with them, they're a band (from Scandanavia) that also has a distinct sound bonding stringed instruments (cellos) with metal elements like drums and electric guitars.

The two stringed instruments played with a bow are Morin Khuurs. The three stringed guitar is call a tovshuur. These are enhanced versions of the traditional instruments that are widely played in Mongolia. The main four in the band and some of the back up band have university degrees in traditional music from the Mongolian Conservatory of Music. Most of them play several instruments.

The Hu's management team reached out to Lzzy and Jacoby and asked them to write basically a whole new song to sing on top the existing Hu songs. A blend of East and West in a magical way. You can feel the music to your soul. It doesn't matter if you understand what is being said.

Nice reaction, now I’ll give you information. “The Wolf Totem” is actually from a 12th century Mongolian poem that the HU shortened and put to music. The “XXL Violin” (as you called it) is the Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle), it has 2 “strings” that (traditionally) are made from the tail hairs from a horse (traditionally the hairs must come from the player’s own horse to bind player to instrument and vice versa), the “Male” string has 150 hairs and the “Female” string has 130 hairs. The “guitar” is actually a Tovshuur (Mongolian Lute) and only has 3 strings.

Jacoby Shaddix did a great job as a guest vocal on his track. Then there is Lzzy. Arguably the top female hard rock vocalist ever, and would certainly have merit to be considered very highly in an inclusive ranking. That is open for debate as folks have differing opinions, though I suspect she would get some love from even non hardcore Halestorm fans. If you have not seen it, there is a Halestorm performance of a song called "Break In" featuring a duet with Amy Lee (Evanescence). Another track that shows the softer side of Lzzy. Thank you for showing recognition to The Hu. I've followed them for about 4 years now and, though, I do enjoy the songs with the various featured artists, some who have reacted to them, without hearing The Hu prior, on their own, seem to give more reactions and thoughts on the featured singers instead of The Hu. Thanks again!

If I recall correctly, they dropped the Song of Women right around Mothers Day even. I think Lzzy did an amazing job on the track. From what I've seen the Mongolian culture holds women in a position of high respect. It is a very emotional track.

Wow! I knew about the Hu, but I never really listened to their stuff.. until now. I didn't know Lzzy Hale actually cut a song with them. (The one with Jacoby Shaddix was great also), but yeah, very tribal sounding stuff. I can't even imagine actually harmonizing with the throat singing that they've become famous for.😮 Very cool stuff! Thanx Cheezy!😉👍 Lzzy is fast becoming the current queen of rock and she likes to expand and explore to new territories (like working with the Hu), and just lately, touring with The Warning gals.😍

I've listen to and become a fan of WU. They are unique and heavy at the same time. I enjoy how rock has influenced other cultures around the world yet the premise is the same. They all have great and often unique music that stands alone but has many followers. To me, that is music!

TBH I think in the case of every single song by The HU that has an ft version - the origional album version is BETTER. The ones with featured artists are just a way to try to americanise/westernise their sound a bit to better fit our tastes. But I think it just lessens their amazing unique sound that doesnt need messing with or diluting.
@veteranhoffman6776
@veteranhoffman6776 Жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest, and this is just my personal preference, I agree. I like The HU’s pure sound, BUT will also say, that the remix of Song of Women with Lzzy Hale was amazing. The others are ok, but like you prefer the originals. Song of Women would probably be the only song collaboration so far that I liked more than their original, her voice and lyrics complimented it rather than changed or subdued it.

This style of singing of being able to create multiple pitches at once, and is Not Native to US, and is nothing new. In fact, it's been around for centuries. Mongolian Throat Singing has been mentioned since the Han Dynasty 206-220 BC. There is text in Chinese scriptures as early as 92 AD. They do play like this Live, and they kick the audiences ass while doing it. Try Yuve Yuve Yu with Ashes to New next.

The two stringed instrument is Norin khuur or in English is horsehead fiddle and the instrument like guitar is tovshuur. The drums are the shaman's drams and in Mongolia there are many kind of throat singing style. Long training is needed for the throat singing. We has long songs as well, if you interested please check this link. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7SUZLljvZ7Oh4k.html. It is very unique. Their style is Hunnu rock. Hunnu is first empire of the Mongolia back to 2300 years. Next song you to react is, maybe Great Chingis Khaan or Sad but true (Metallica song) Black thunder or Bee bielgee. You can select any song from 2 albums issued by them. All songs are good.

I'm not sure if this is true across the board, but when I was in a car show here in Detroit they were filming a music video. From what I saw, the performer was actually lip syncing to his own song and then overlayed it in the video. No mics or anything. I also remember watching a music video a long time ago, think it was a rock band with female lead in a desert setting. Looking closely at the amps you could see nothing plugged into them but the song definitely was not acoustic. Actually the video in question was Halestorm - I Am The Fire [Official Video]. I get they could have used wireless tech for the instruments. Again not saying everyone does it, because let's be honest, to sync everything going on here would take tremendous work, but some do use the technique.
