After being cooped up in Bangkok for months (not a hardship really;) could barely wait for this trip to the beach + a hike at Sam Roi Yot Ntnl park. Planned this trip to go ahead after the previous long weekend rush and although only 48 hours (Fri-Sun) managed to pack it all in and had a great time doing it! This is part 1 of 2, Bangkok to Hua Hin (part 2 Dolphin Bay to follow soon). So thanks for coming along and if you enjoy:

@Aunty Joomy simply life style - Are you a Thai person based outside of Thailand currently? If so that must be hard. From my perspective as a foreigner, personally I always feel grateful to be in Thailand, but especially now. Overall, Thailand has done a great job and despite much hardship & sacrifice, Thai people have been very kind and caring as always. Hope things improve for Thailand & Thai people and also hope all may return & sooner than later. Take care. STL

Man, this Hua Hin playlist is great. I'd watched a few of your vids (mostly the island ones) and they're great but the playlist really brings it together as a series. If you follow the sequence as well you end up putting a lot of the location(s) together before even going there. Bravo. PS. Caught you in the mirror on one of them. From the voice I always thought you were about 300 pounds for some reason. Haha. Wrong! Nothing like the mental picture I had.

Shame about the demise of the Retro Bar. I loved it too for the ambience, & for its first floor view of life milling thru the night market. Brilliant, love the style of your videos, lots of good information for potential travellers! I liked This one in particular though as it brought back some wonderful memories as we went everywhere you have been in parts 1 and 2 earlier this year in January. We were lucky enough to be the only ones in phraya Nakhon cave when we went, we did the cheat also and took the boat around to the beach, you would have to be crazy or superman/woman to do the 2km route that’s at the side of where you get tickets! Love hua hin, hopefully moving there early next year, I can’t wait 🛫🏝🍹🍾

@Chris Ward Thanks Chris. We also billy-goated the full monty dual vertical hike-a-thon previously as stormy weather kept boats ashore. So, was well pleased to only have to do the one vertical this time round! Was surprised how busy the trail & cave was. The trail at points was literally backed up with winded hikers up ahead taking breathers. But despite all the unexpected peeps, was a great day out & thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! Hope you & all can get back here too & sooner than later. Take care, STL

Another excellent vlog well done. Hua Hin train station is lovely especially at Xmas nighttime. I lived there for 5 years,loved the place. However, ironically as their contract ended JUST BEFORE the 'event', perhaps dodged a worse bullet... McBeefsteak??? I noticed that there are not too many mask wearers in Hua Hin. That’s a good sign! 😃
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 4 жыл бұрын
@shu2mchw Well, if you're outside working in 38C heat but at a reasonable distance say behind a kiosk counter at a market (or driving a boat or tuk tuk etc) some outside workers and market shoppers etc mostly pull masks up when in 'close' to outsiders. Others may be just 'taking a breather' briefly and can be forgiven (try working 12 hours with a mask on continuously in 38C heat;) But not when eating or drinking something of course. It's still mandatory to wear one on Skytrains, regular trains, at malls, shops & restaurants etc (eg: when entering & ordering at McD's etc, then can un-mask to eat/drink, naturally). Fortunately there's been zero home-grown cases or hospitalisations for several weeks now, indicating it's under control here following previous lockdowns, strict mask wearing, distancing etc etc. Outside of a case of an Egyptian military officer who was positive and went 'awol' so to speak (to a mall but thankfully he was wearing a mask & no cases emerged after follow-up trace n tests) all's ok here at present. Thus as time goes by with no new cases yes, folks are relaxing more. However, especially in main cities most still wear masks even outside, myself included. At the least it offers others a psychological degree of comfort to others and also even a cloth mask is proven to prevent spray, thus potential transmission 6X more than without. Thus, it's the simplest thing to greatly speed up 'getting it under control'. Thailand has 'gotten it under control' now but it's a bit premature to say 'all clear' obviously. How's that for a nuanced reply? ;) STL

SideTripLife yes I’m very impressed with how Thailand has the pandemic under control and making sure her people are safe. @Milo Milo Very unlikely in September, other than limited flights for special groups of travellers (Work Permit holders, Spousal Visa holders, etc) & with pre-conditions + quarantine such as they have now. However, yesterday Bangkok Post ran a story of the Tourism Minister meeting which talked about a new very limited travel plan called 'SAFE & SEALED' but will have to wait n see details. Here's a quote from the article: "Safe means we will select only guests from a city with a record of no infections for at least 30 days, and they can travel under the sealed conditions provided by tour operators in designated hotels and provinces that agree to welcome those tourists"

@Ulrik Hammarström Thank you for your correct comment Ulrik. I was only referring to tourists, not expat residents and should have stated this. I lived in Hua Hin 20 years ago for 5 years and yes there were & are many Swedes, Danes and Scandinavians living in and around Hua Hin. And as you correctly point out, most do not go to the 'tourist trap' areas much. So, from google translate I should say: Tack snälla ni :)

@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 4 жыл бұрын
@Paul Rainwater I get that Paul but couple things to consider particular to Thailand - Following previous lockdowns, strict mask wearing, distancing, curfews, pub closures, etc etc, fortunately there's been zero home-grown cases or hospitalisations for several weeks (indicating it's thankfully now well under control here). Also note at that pub most are sat outside on the terrace and with their own circle of mates/friends etc (plus, bit difficult to drink or eat with a mask;) Bottom line, Thailand's done a good job, made the sacrifices & as a result now there's virtually no signs of it here. Their main concern now is if it comes in from outside the country, thus the current quandary.... Despite the recent scare (via a visiting Egyptian Airforce pilot who ignored rules), hopefully they can still proceed to reopen- initially in a limited & controlled way, then monitor, adjust and expand incrementally. Still time between now and say Oct-Dec for some other places to also get it under control and then hopefully more can also get the green light to return. Again, wishing wheels up for all wanting to return & hopefully sooner than later.

Sorry for that Kevin. I film just using a hand-held phone. Only recently upgraded to one with a built-in gimbal . However, I still tend to move and pan etc much too fast (it's in my dna;) but will try to slow down.

there is no way this was made in 2020. My family and I left Hua Hin in Feb. 2020, after living there for three years. There have been mask mandates made for all indoor shopping centers, and most taverns and pubs have been closed due to covid 19 restrictions. I didn't see one person wearing a mask in this clip,

June 2020 actually. Restrictions had been lifted in Bangkok and domestic travel was being promoted by Thai Govt at the time (then the 3rd wave came and all shut again). In the beginning of the vid at the Skytrain etc people are wearing masks, in HH night market can see ppl wearing masks but of course no one wears masks when eating or drinking.
