Sit back and relax as Eddie enjoys the finer things in life in this segment of Huang's World: Chengdu. We head to China's Dead Sea Resort, where Eddie "lightens up" with a refreshing salt burial, swims in one of the world's most crowded swimming pools, and samples some delicate baby pig dick. It's in Chengdu that he best understands the beauty of China's efficient, economical way of life.

The funny thing about what Eddie said about how much time people take off... among the industrialized nations, Americans take relatively little time off. Productivity, in terms of how much is done per employee, is pretty high here. So even though we have this reputation for being lazy, that's not actually all that accurate. That aside, one of the big barriers in the way of Americans living where they work is there are a lot of restrictions about zoning. For example, in one of the previous episodes there was a family that ran a street food business literally out of their bedroom. That would never fly here because there are so many restrictions, even if they are being clean about it. It's one of those ways where we're sorta being smothered by the government.

Americans work quite a lot compared to other Western countries but their productivity is not that high, compared to European northern countries.

Narcissus X They are regulations not restrictions, these regulations keep quality control in check, thats why in america you will almost never find a ghetto/dirty resturante for example (of course there are some but they will get inspected and shut down). These restrictions are also what keep workplaces safe and fair in comparison to rest of the world

Yo Eddie....why no new shows...u do the best programs on Vice..I can't understand why no new shows...
@Blueswailer
@Blueswailer 9 жыл бұрын
I think they're creating hype amongst Vice viewers who haven't for one reason or another seen Fresh off the Boat by this rebranding & reposting of old shows. A move like this is redundant/greedy in the eyes of many viewers, so I would guess Eddie has a new show coming out next year. That would make this an example of "any publicity is good publicity". At least I hope they have an ulterior motive considering these segments and the way they're re-presented.

For all the comedic flair that Eddie tries to bring out when he's in China, I don't think he really realizes the severity of saying things that are not condoned by the regime there. That's why you see people who are quite appreciative of any benefits they have even though by comparison they seem so minuscule.

I think we should be asking whether anyone should be working long hours 28 days out of a month for the barest necessities, without simple benefits or basic rights like decent time off. Its utter exploitation on a massive scale. The Chinese government does what it can to prevent its labor force from understanding itself in relation to its brothers in other countries who are at least given these basic things. The Communist Party would like Chinese workers to think they are privileged or more honorable because they are hardworking. But this is a simple trick of inducing Cognitive Dissonance. The leading party of China may claim itself to be Communist in practice, But production in Communist China functions in the same way as any of the Capitalist countries. Workers sell their labor for the cost of reproducing their labor, for mere subsistence, and the owners of the means of production (the state) enlarge capital by extracting the excess value of what the workers produce. Its people are rented slaves, like ours in the US, except they are politically helpless.
