been using the Matebook X Pro (2020) for mostly programming purposes and it gets the job done pretty well but the lack of RAM does annoy me a bit occasionally when i have multiple browser tabs opened. nice to see that they finally implemented a 32GB RAM version!

Touchscreen on Linux is something that should be tested under a Wayland session, so it uses libinput and usually calibrates on its own.

i am currently using the 12th gen 2022 model. I love it. only complaint is that battery life could be better. wish they'd increase the batter/ slightly reduce screen resolution. the material on the inside repels fingerprint pretty well as well. really impressed by this machine.

This looks good. However, I dont like the gap between the screen and the body when the lid is close. Even my 5 year old Dell inspiron doesn't look that bad.

Looks like the top screen bezel is slightly thicker now than the ones on the sides of the screen is it?

Good review - thanks. I have a Matebook AMD R7 and it's a nice laptop. However I think your con list is a bit short: Webcam angle cannot be adjusted due to being integrated in keyboard. And I really miss the pageup and pagedown keys. And arrow up and down keys are pretty small (half size) so the keyboard is not good if you are a programmer. Linux support is not great. Tried 3-4 different flavors but never got sound working and no drivers for fingerprint reader.

I always wanted to buy a Mac since the M1 has launched, probably the battery life is attracting me the most and the speakers. I'm afraid of the Mac OS system. Do you have any idea? would you switch?, I love the freedom and variability of the windows. Sorry for the off topic question

Great review as always, two issues I have with this product, first is the aforementioned battery life, this is something manufacturers should be prioritising in all laptops. Second, the screen should be OLED, this is 2023 and we now have the proper tech for it.

Any chance to have a side by side between this and a laptop with AMOLED or mini LED?

I've been a long-time Huawei fan, and I also have their Matebook D15 laptop, which has proven to be quite amazing for office needs and even a little bit of editing. However, I've been thinking of an upgrade, and I'm kinda disappointed with the latest models from the company. Sure, they have all sorts of fancy features, and they look amazing, yet there's STILL no separate graphic card. The cooling system could also use a little bit of an upgrade, even though I understand that keeping this weight and size demands certain sacrifices. Also, I don't need the posh sensor screen; if anything, it's more of a liability since it's much easier to break and more costly to fix. All in all, there's certainly progress happening, but I'm not sure it's in the right direction. I very much want to stay loyal to Huawei, but with this pricing, it's possible to find a more technically sophisticated piece from MSI and other brands. Just my take on this 🤷🏼‍♀️

The "freetouch" thingy is quite novel for a Windows laptop, together with the shortcuts on top of configurable Windows touchpad gestures, this makes it very usable without a mouse. My several gripes with this line are, 1. 16 GB ram, which honestly is a no-go, a bottleneck in this day and age of cutting edge hardware, 32 GB should be mainstream by now. 2. The insistence on using Intel's mediocre internal GPU and not even a MX-series Nvidia GPU, or even a modern AMD processor which would crush the Xe with an 680M or 780M. 3. Failing to focus on battery life. 6-7 hours is still very mediocre when macbooks can hit 10+ hours in normal use and without performance loss. I've recently acquired a Matebook 16, the original with AMD, which gives me almost two days of worktime with a 84 Whr battery. It is quite svelte for a 16-incher, thin and below 2 kg so I've been taking it to short trips with me now instead of a 14-incher and other than the occasional curious eyeball (a 3:2 16-incher is one giant-headed square), it's lately done me quite worry-free in terms of runtime. I'd love to get close to that in a 14 incher.

the one from 2020 had bad battery life and bad pixel response on the built-in screen. can relate.

This laptop have one major issue and that is: Once the battery dies, you cannot run the laptop with charger, you need to change the battery which takes days or weeks

Great machine i'm sure as Huawei make great laptops, my mums 14s is lovely. But very hard to justify a windows laptop above MacBook Pro M2 pricing with only 7hrs of battery life and fan noise. Think huaweis cheaper models make more sense.

"Other models with 13Gb RAM" of course you mean 32G or RAM. FYI domestic Chinese price is 9999rmb $1395USD or £1064quid That's a reasonable price. That's the basic model 1tb 16gb and not this blue surface finish model. that's 12999rmb or $1673USD / £1279quid.

Insane pricing ... You can just buy a MacBook 14 and get a better product. And that is from somebody with a dislike of Apple products... When you make Apple look competitive / better, you have a pricing issue.

Looks lovely, but when you can get a decently-specced Samsung Galaxy Book 3 with a 120hz AMOLED screen for 500 euros less in Spain, along with guaranteed updated and patches, it doesn't really make the perceived potential risk of using a Huawei product seem worth it.

I have the 2018 model and Intel sucks. I will never buy anything with Intel ever again. Also no glossy screen. I'm a Huawei fanboy, but my next notebook is going to be a Lenovo or Apple(I don't want to, but they are too good, sadly).
