Okay guys, I've had mine for 3 days now and here's my 'early' verdict... Design: Beautiful. As good-looking as everyone says. The 3:2 ratio is really cool, the slim sides and skinny bezels are lovey to look at. Design wise I think Huawe smashed it, and as an Apple 'snob' it gets a double thumbs up from me in the looks department. The stand is solid and the raise/tilt is great. There's a bit of a scraping sound when you raise it up and down, but bah, not an issue. Touch bar control: Fine. Just as easy to use as a joystick and a bit of a fun novelty, although perhaps unnecessary. Sound: Medium/rubbish. Don't buy this expecting quality audio, they would do "at a pinch" sure, but sound pretty cheap to me. I will be using separate speakers and honestly I can't imagine ever using the in-built speakers except in an emergency. Side note: I didn't like the look of the speaker grille on the stand in pictures - but in person, it doesn't bother me at all, just a pity it serves no purpose for me! Screen: most important and why I bought this: It's...(drum rolll) ...good. I have it side by side with my 7 year old 5k iMac and the iMac is better. Let's get real, this is never gonna beat any Apple panel, for a start, it's matt, the glossy Apple screens really do add clarity and contrast, I don't know why more manufacturers don't do glossy, because the trade off is worth it imo, but hey. ANYWAY... with bit of tweaking I've got the Mateview reasonably close to match my iMac's screen, so after initial worries, I've ended up smiling and relieved at the picture I'm getting from it. Resolution: After a bit of experimentation I settled on scaling it same as my 5k iMac - so I get the same width and that bonus depth which is awesome! I CAN see the scaling, so compared to the iMac its not that 2:1 pixel perfection, but, within an hour or so, I stopped caring - it looks sharp enough and perfectly fine. Brightness is really good, colours vibrant, contrast good. I'm not a colour calibration expert, but my graphic designer eyes are happy with it. HDR: No idea, but I wouldn't consider this an HRD panel to be honest, I wouldn't kid yourself, but if anyone has more understanding of this, feel free to comment. Energy efficiency: No-one really mentions this. It's G rated! Which is bad. I the grand scheme of electrical goods, it's not a planet killer, most large screens or ultrawides (Dels for example) use the same or more power. My rough maths tells me it would use about 120kwh in a year. It shows there is some cheaper engineering in there and is a bit of a shame, but having done the maths I'm at peace with it. Summary: It it good/worth it? For the £350 I paid, absolutely! The quality/value for money is great. At the original £600 tho I'd judge it harder, and probably have some creeping regret. Is it as good as something like the new Apple Studio Display? Absolutely not, I'm not kidding myself and neither should you. But is it "good enough?" Yes! More than good enough in my opinion and I'm very happy.

thanks so much for the review! really is helping me make my decision! what mac have you connected to the mate view? I'm starting Computer Science degree and would use this for programming. I'm thinking of getting a MBP or macbook air m1. lastly don't you have to wait for £100 cashback? for the price are you not tempted at picking up two of these?
@brucekennedy5274
@brucekennedy5274 2 жыл бұрын
@@percy9228 haha, I don't need two. Right now it's connected to my now quite old, but trusty iMac 27 5k. But I got it for a Mac Studio I will get sometime soon. Honestly for me it's a budget solution, or a secondary screen, when something better/perfect comes long in a year or two maybe if I feel the need. It's also a reaction to not wanting to pay so much for the Studio Display which while lovely, is just a bit obnoxiously overpriced and somewhat out-dated (at least for Apple) I'm my opinion. I would think the MateView would be great paring with an M1 Air for your degree - two great value bits of gear. If you get a new MBP, then the amazing screen on that thing will make the MateView look very low-tech by comparison. But if you number crunching spreadsheets, coding or stuff less photo/colour critical and just need lots of extra screen-space, it's great option l think. Plus as mentioned, although it may be less important it looks really really nice on the desk, which does make you feel good :)

@@brucekennedy5274 thanks, I'm actually put of with only 1 year warrenty and the reltaively hot tempretures this screen has. thinking of getting a 16 inch MBP and use that and wait to see what comes in a years time. the 16 inch macbook should be good enough for first year of my degree! actually that sounds like a good plan! by then we'll have much better options. Apple products will last 5 years easily and resell value will hold whereas in 5 years you'd barely be able to sell a used mateview..if it lasts that long

I believe the frame and stand are all alu/meta. The back is actually plastic, but presumably it visually passes as aluminium, because several reviewers have assumed it is. TBH this makes total sense to me, reduced weight and for most the back will be hidden. I have heard this monitor can get quite warm, so I suppose all-metal would have helped with thermals, but hey, for the price, som plastic is understandable imo. I'm getting on soon, so I'l try and remember to update if I'm wrong here.

Hi! I just bought the monitor and I would like to use it with my MacBook 13" early 2015. But I think that MacBook does not recognise the monitor in the correct way. Like my computer says that it is 107-inch screen when I use it with an HDMI cable. So do you think I need a new cable or is there some settings I should check out first? Everything sees so small when I compare it to your video when you use the monitor with MacBook.

It’s awesome monitor, especially design wise. But… did you notice it’s way warmer than MacBook’s display? I spent almost half of a day trying to get it at least close to Mac’s display temperature and I failed. Color calibration in monitor settings is a joke (you can only chose between blue - yellow - more yellow only in Huawei own color gamut) and color profiles in Mac settings barely did anything when it comes to temperature. I returned mine, huge bummer, had my hopes really high after consuming plenty of rather good reviews. Maybe mine was faulty? It wasn’t night shift thing.

The wireless version will allow wireless projection of your laptop or Huawei smartphone screen to the monitor. You can already do this with an iPhone via AirPlay to an AirPlay smart TV or Apple TV - or to a computer monitor via 3rd-party screen mirroring software. .. I'd pay less and get the "wired" version of this monitor.

I'm debating between a 27 inch 5K iMac 2019 base model and a Mac mini. The thing is the Mac mini will blow the 2019 iMac out the water with performance because of the M1 chip but I really do want that Mac mini the problem is finding a screen that is as nice as that 5K iMac. Can you tell me if you would know side-by-side if it's comparable to the 5K iMac? I doubt it's going to be just as nice and vibrant but is it close or is it really just as nice and vibrant as that 5K iMac? Now I know this screen is not 5K but is it close at least. The problem is getting that 5K iMac it's outdated with the Intel chips not to mention the big black bezels on that screen I really don't like. Any opinions would help. Thank you

I have had this monitor for about two months now. And it is really good. I use it together with a 2018 Macbook Pro connected via a single USB-C cable. The monitor acts as a USB-hub so I can connect an old USB-keyboard with no troubles, and it will charge the laptop. Plus the power brick is a standard USB-C one which also can power a macbook. The only downside is the lack of mac os x controls for both audio and screen brightness. The monitor's touchbar of course works. But the mac keyboard volume up and down don't.

I strongly advise against purchasing this monitor due to a serious engineering flaw that leads to its failure within a year of use. The issue lies in the overheating of one of the components - the MVL varistor, which eventually stops working. This directly affects the monitor's brightness, resulting in the complete loss of the backlight, even though the monitor itself continues to function.

Because the iPad is a very powerful tablet computer in it's own right with one of the best, if not the best, stylus implementations on a sub 16" tablet.
