One thing have learnt ,is the western part should rethink and may be put an end to most of the prejudices towards Chinese tech , such like , "Chinese are very good at copying", "that Chinese can't produce anything new",that they are only good at mass production etc , that fact is Chinese products are actually good more than those that are always over hyped ,the only thing is the west to collaborate with China in terms of technology advancement.. otherwise Chinese technology will take over,, because these guys are really good.. indeed

I think a lot of people, all over the world, are starting to realize that Huawei is in another league when it comes to smartphone cameras. If someone is looking for the absolute best camera hardware available in a phone, a Huawei is really a decent option. That's not to say it's going to consistently take the same "decent" photos that an iPhone will, but if you want a phone that can take some absolutely striking photos, a P40 Pro/Pro+ is a top notch device.

as a p40 pro owner, i can agree, 2 weeks owning the phone and still cant believe how it can see in the dark. They still need to up their game in the video department but for me, i use 95% the camera for photos so it doesn't affect me that much. videos are good too but i would say is 1 generation below iphone and samsung in some situations. Also there's a bit of color differences between main and ultra wide that they can hopefully fix with an update. Other than that i love it, ditched samsung after 8 years, sold my s10, best decision ever, p40 pro fingerprint and face recognition is out of the world comparing with samsung.

At 5:44, when you went outside on the boat, the colours are just amazing!

I enjoy watching all your reviews and videos, you do an excellent job on them. I like the P40 Pro, the only thing that I don't like is that the apps don't come on it. I still give it 5⭐ cause it's not there fault that it's not on there. POWERHOUSE!!!

great review Ben, as always. well the thing that most people forget to mention and i believe it's the best thing about Huawei cameras is Raw image stacking, while all the other Oems use jpg stacking, Huawei approach gives more natural look and it eliminates the hallow effect around objects which was single handedly ruining computational photography for me. i only wish they kept the muted color look they had on the first software iteration.

The only issue i had with my p30 pro was that the 2x zoom shot was a complete different colour temperature to the one shot on 1x and 5x.... And all the were totally different. After seeing reviews of p40, the trend continues sadly. Most importantly, hdr had to be manually enabled each time buried in the settings

To be honest if i could buy a p40 pro + i would. But it's not available in my country . Because i am a strong supporter to huawei's effort on taking a good worldwild market share in terms of mobile services. We should stop Google's monopoly cuz it's rediculous. Anyway great amazing review love your work. Stay safe

Those cameras are amazing, but that front cutout is way too big for my liking. I hope the s21/note21 can get that zoom lens because after the s20+ that i have now, zooming is awesome.

@Ben, your review is refreshing seeing you sweating it out to vlog! 🤭 One thing to add though, the ceramic back cover is in fact , one of the major differentiators between P40 Pro+ and P40 Pro. This unique opaque looking white (or black) ceramic built back is not just gorgeous to look at, but also very resistant to scratches due from sand & dust, even coins & keys. It's made of a type of ceramic compound with a MOHS hardness of 8.5, which is harder than those quartz (MOHS of 7) normally found in the sand & dust. Besides, it's also lighter in weight than the normal glass back cover of P40 Pro. That's the reason why Huawei doesn't include a clear case in the box simply suggested that you don't need one anymore.

As iPhone user myself, I like they way Huawei approach to camera tbh. They literally pioneer lowlights photography for other manufacturers. I think RYYB is very good idea,it’s not exclusive to huawei though. There’s the reason why other manufacturers don’t use RYYB in their camera. To change the fundamental of how sensor works like that required you to write everything from the scratch. So basically you need to develop new algorithm for everything from white balance to EV. And I also saw a lot of camera expert said that RYYB camera is very hard to get white balance right, this is also why we don’t see a lot of DSLR with RYYB sensor.

I would love to see the side by side compariosn in low light since P40 Pro series primary lens sensor size is bigger than Mate 30 Pro, but the aperture is quite much narrower, I'm talking about f/0.3 difference. Those night photos... Amazing sensor tech from Huawei. I like this vlog style review, feels natural and showcases the device in day to day settings. The lack of B roll on this type of review is justified since every bit of the scene is very to the point and clear about the camera only. Great job as always Ben.

Really only one thing that bothers me. It's this selfie camera setup. It's just big no no for me! Other than that almost prefect phone.

Yeah Ben I am getting a P40 to replace point and shoot. Its sensor basically has the same sensor as the RX100 and Insta360 One inch. The reason I am not getting the P40 Pro is that I don't care about using a bigger "camera" on the gimbal. I don't care about the telephoto lens that much either, maybe next gen.

And by the way thanks that you point out that some hk people are behaving kind of....., keep your good work going man, be yourself the zv 1 is quite good

Brand new the price for P40 Pro+ is eye-watering considering the GMS debacle, but now the second hand units start to hit the market, pricing has become more palatable. I hope price on secondary market keeps on dropping and once day I will snatch this beast.
