Hey! That's a great question! Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient time to test Linux on it. From what we can find out, Linux isn't ideal on Ryzen platforms just yet. It might have changed, but we are unable to confirm.

For those wondering, I bought it and installed Ubuntu 18.04. it works fine but the Bluetooth hasn't been working well so far. Fingerprint scan doesn't work as expected. Gotta find workarounds, but it's working fine

@@fraufuchs9555 I'm using the MateBook D 15 with Linux Mint right now. Bluetooth and everything else works great except for the fingerprint scanner. There is no Linux driver for the fingerprint scanner.

I'd go against the MateBook D 15 if you need a proper webcam. The position is just atrocious. Either the Lenovo or ASUS VivoBook S15 is great for the use case - but if you can hold off your purchase for a while, there's a new VivoBook S15 announcing soon - with the new Intel 11th Gen processors.

If those 3 are your only choices, I suggest getting the MSI Modern 14 B10RBSW-407

@@NasiLemakTech oh thanks for your suggestion! Could you let me know your justification? I have no clue about tech and there's not much info about this MSI unit.. is the mb ok? Is the RAM upgradeable? I think it only gives a 256gb SSD and i5.. but I don't want to spend more to upgrade it any soon.. Only bad thing about the Huawei for me is the awkward camera position..

Definitely not good for AutoCAD or any other CAD software. I recommend you getting an entry-level gaming laptop for that - perhaps something from Illegear or wait for the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14.

That's a good question and I think it depends on a few things. If I'm taking the laptop out a lot, then the ZenBook is better because of its build quality. Also, the ZenBook is *slightly* better at gaming but sacrifices multitasking capability. For me personally, I think I'll go for Huawei MateBook D 15 since I have another desktop for serious work and gaming. Just have to be careful with the laptop since it's quite plasticky.

It's definitely good enough... but the webcam is something that you have to judge yourself. It's going to show your nostrils/chest more than anything else.

Both won't work well for multimedia students. I highly recommend you to look for the ASUS VivoBook S15 S533 instead.

The performance is definitely not good enough for that use case. The color accuracy is somewhat okay, though we can see some unequal color vibrancy, particularly since it has a higher green saturation.

This is like back in 2018 or something. Very old model lol. If you found a new D 15 that looks identical but comes with 11th Gen, then I'd expect it to be good too. Just the price is an issue.

Rather quiet, I'll say. Heat issue is nothing to be worried about for web browsing and office use.

Approximately... if gaming then it'll be much lower, obviously. Standby can go about 9 hours maybe? Depending if the screen is turned on or off, brightness, and also if music is playing, etc.

Yeah it's good enough. I'd recommend the HONOR MagicBook more since it's slightly cheaper and has a properly-positioned webcam.

The battery life is highly dependent on what you're doing with the laptop. From our tests, it is actually quite decent. For the Huawei Share, it works with only Huawei or HONOR phones.

I think the MateBook D 15 does have great value for the $$$. However, it cannot be upgraded. If this is all you need, then it is very worth the price. If you're looking for more or perhaps to upgrade a bit more, then it is difficult to recommend.

Hey Greeg, the MateBook D 15 doesn't come with the bracket out of the box? If that's the case, my recommendation isn't exactly... good. Perhaps a thin slide of double-sided tape can hold it in place.

At this point in time, it depends on what you're doing. AMD is cheaper and has better graphical performance (not by much) and Intel is the inverse.

Yea, this MateBook is good for student and light uses - like Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, KZfaq, some Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, all of that stuff. Advantages of this laptop is definitely the price. Other than that, I really hate the webcam position. That's about it - just great value overall.

I’d advise you to return it as I had bought it for my son and we realised that the camera is in the keyboard (but it was too late to return it 😞) and this is not ideal for virtual meetings. Other than that the laptop is very good.
