Great video. I have done this more than once on my Cavalier. I believe that dust cover/seal goes behind the bearing and protects the bearing from brake dust and such. I lived on a dirt road and was going through these in less than a year before I installed the dust cover. It's more work and you may have to get an alignment but if you're burning through them like I was it's worth the extra time.

Eric your right ,that red seal goes on opposite side of the bearing, black seal goes on outer hub sidea.Bearing will last longer, but to put on red seal way more teardown.I put grease on back side of bearing, it seals it better than just leaving it dry.

just a couple things to add from my experience just having done this on my 04 cavalier, my original axle nut was actually a 30mm, though the replacement that came with the new hub was a 29mm. also, mine did require the seal on the back of the knuckle, which i found i had to unbolt the knuckle from the strut. but this was a very good video and it definitely got me started off on the right foot getting this done.

good video, I pulled off the caliper and rotor but to my surprise the hub was slpit in half and the rotor had half of the assembly stuck in it. which meant to even pull rotor off I had to take off axel nut off first. then I came in the house to watch your video as I scratched my head in disbelief. lol well I wish mine was that easy lol great video sir. you got a new subscriber and I will add a video soon to my channel for you to checkout.

If anyone is wondering where the new seal and o ring are supposed to go, it's on the back of the steering knuckle on the opposite side to the hub bearing, and then the axle slides though the seal, into the steering knuckle and the hub bearing. Most people don't replace the seal because you have to disconnect the tie rod so you can turn the steering knuckle far enough to pop the axle completely out of the knuckle.

@@mr.rogers4038 When I took my old one off the O-ring was just behind the part that has the lug studs in it. The O-ring is just the correct diameter to fit on that part--it seems like it seals the outer edge of the bearings whereas the seal seals the inner edge of where the bearings are.

Yeah. I wouldn't let this guy touch my cars. Leaving parts off because you don't want to deal with them is not recommended. Beating on things with a maul is also not recommended. There are correct tools for the job.

@0:47 When you did the test w/tire rotation, can you check it w/only front tires in the air, or all 4 should be in the air. The bad wheel bearing (actually it is wheel bearing & hub assembly on 2003 Chevy Cavalier, I don't know if you can remove just wheel bearing itself from that assembly) were bad on the front. There was exactly that noise like in your film on driving straight. I replaced the original ones w/new aftermarket just bcs of the mileage (~100K) about 2 years ago. Now they both failed, mechanic on alignment told me and I replaced them for the original ones I saved. Again the original ones had no issue and when I rotated them, they were rotated smoothly. That knocking sound gone, the car drives straight smooth, but now on turn it gives whining-scratching sound when turning to the Left (occasionally), and loud grounding sound when turning on the right. I did another alignment in the Dealer, but that sound didn't go away, and they didn't give me any recommendations this time. What that can be? I would appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thank you for the informative film and especially for the tip @10:41 w/a screwdriver. I always was using large pry bar locating it near the lugs and been afraid to damage those lugs. Yes, and when the wheel bearing were bad I couldn't feel anything by shacking the wheel side to side on in vertical direction.

Looked like you was struggling a bit trying to get the new hub on, it's not that hard to line them splines up is it, I always just slapped the hub on then pushed splined cv through, it made it easier that way. But that's just me though, reasonably detailed vid

Interesting, Only part I didn't like is how you let the caliper hang there with no support for 20 minutes. Otherwise very good. I just don't like to see bad habits perpetuated.

I am on my 3rd left front bearing in 45000 miles, (2005 cavalier). Is it just bad quality replacement parts or might something else be causing them to fail? I had a '99 pontiac sunfire with 175000+ and never had to replace the wheel bearings. Any help, info or suggestions would be welcomed! Last bearing failed at just over 10,000 miles...

I guess a question is are you replacing them or a shop. Is the nut being properly torqued?

Actually two different shops have had their hand at it. After watching your video, it looks easy enough to do myself. I have priced the more expensive Moog brand replacement and doing it myself will still be about half the cost the shops charged me with the cheapy 25k mile guaranteed part.

My axle nut was actually 30mm on driver's side I was doing - but 29mm on passenger side I wasn't doing! Weird! My hub was pretty well rusted on, so I had to persuade it very roughly. Before I realized it was rusted on at the hub itself, I switched to a metal hammer to bang on the axle end but forgot to put the nut back on to do that. Whoops! Messed up the threads only a little bit, and got the nut back on without really cross threading it.

careful not to pinch the ABS wheel on the inside of the hub while you tighten the axle nut.

Hey, I was trying to replace my hub assembly on a 93 Oldsmobile Achievea. I know it has an abs system but wasn't sure what it's going to look like... Does it connect? Is it inside the bearing? Could you elaborate on your comment pls. Any suggestions you may have? The wheel bearing I bought looks exactly like the one on the vid.

No. Since you aren't taking any of the steering linkage or the control arms apart. That stuff will not be affected. Your steering will be fine as its all connected to the spindle, which also supports the bearing.

Yeah just take a screwdriver to the caliper bolt threads, fuck um up it's ok. And just let that caliper hang by that braided brake hose that's perfect. Thanks! Yeah just put the nut back on the CV axle an hit it with a hammer that's great man. Your supposed to support the caliper and not twist the hose if possible. And use a punch for the center of the axle so you don't buckle the threads. Where did you get your certifications? Where ever man they are doing a great job taking people's money and showing them KZfaq videos on how not to do repairs
