Don't worry, LeBron-tards will find a way to not only disagree with him but discredit all he has to say. As if their knowledge of watching basketball since 2010 gives the the right to open their mouths to the great Hubie Brown.

Heh, no. The older generation is typically delusional about their era as opposed to today's, due to the _"I had to walk up hill in snow both ways back in my day"_ phenomenon. Case in point, Rick Barry was on Dan LeBatard's show earlier this week and claimed he would average 40+ a game today due to the rule changes. El. Oh. El.

Simon Wilder To be fair, Hubie Brown's speaking the truth. Soon after MJ retired, the league made the defensive 3 second rule and banned handchecking, the use of forearms and other physical contact on the perimeter to 'open up the game'.

sportygu123 Yep, there's a bit of both. I have heard (I think from Sports Guy) that in the old Boston Garden, Bird got every single touch called in his favor around the basket. On the other hand, run-of-the-mill guards were a lot more likely to get mugged and not get a call. Did anyone notice that the Heat weren't getting bail-out calls in game 4 of the finals this year? And they couldn't do much (although James's box score still looks good b/c he really is that good).

Kangsta CoasT When did Jordan choke?
@X02Overdose
@X02Overdose 7 жыл бұрын
Kangsta CoasT Kangsta CoasT Kangsta CoasT Bro your grammar and spelling needs a serious overhaul. Funny thing is I don't remember Jordan choking away an entire finals series THREE times like "Legoat" has 😂, I don't remember legoats 10 scoring titles, DPOY awards, steals titles, etc. "Chokedan" also has better stats then LeBron overall while playing less games then LeBron so how is LeBron the more decorated player? Now let's examine the dumb shit you said. What "used up dwarf" made him shoot 41%? If your gonna make a statement like that Atleast tell me who it is. The Orlando massacre series? You mean the series in 95 which MJ only played 17 regular season games but still averaged like 30 a game during the playoffs? And in the 87 and 86 series' he had to go up against arguably a GOAT team in the Celtics headlined by Larry Bird and Kevin Mcchale with Charles Oakley being his second best player. Now you called MJ a decorated role player. What role player has ever averaged 37.1 PPG in a season, won 6 finals MVPs and 5 RS MVPs? Name one with similar accolades, I'll wait. You also keep referring to the players that guarded Jordan as "dwarfs". Im not even gonna go into that, considering many of them were his height, very good defenders, or both. He also lit up and locked down plenty of great players during his Wizards days at the age of 38-40 so that just kills your weak argument. I'm not gonna respond to any else you said mainly because it's just jibber jabber and ridiculousness just like everything else you said. lol "LeBron is the more decorated player" had you said someone like Kareem or Wilt you'd have a valid argument but no you just had to bring up LeBron who is probably the easiest person to argue against when it comes to GOAT arguments.

Michael Jordan really had to work hard getting to the basket because hand checking was legal at that time. The lanes was crowded at that time. Jordan was hammered every time he tried to get inside the lane to score. He had to deal with physical teams like the Knicks, Pistons, and the Celtics. If he was averaging 32 points during that time, he probably would have averaged 45-50 points per game today.

Do you ever get anything right? Handchecking was outlawed in 1994. Jordan's highest scoring years were during when hand checking was allowed: 37.1 points per game in 1987 and 35 points per game in 1988. After handchecking was outlawed in 1994 his average steadily declined.
@kcire-tv3wy
@kcire-tv3wy 6 жыл бұрын
His average steadily declined because he was in his mid 30's and his game changed to a more perimeter-type. Easy to see when you know what you're watching. And what he is pointing to is how much easier it would have been for a prime Jordan to destroy today's league. And no, handchecking was completely outlawed in 2004!

@@turtleislandlac1490 it didn't declined, it enhanced his game, it's like taking off a bars of steel all over his body, he became able move freely and lightly do whatever he want, and if that's the case, his dpoy says it all plus steals.. exactly. hubie did talk about the physical defense of the 70s-90s. but it was to prove his previous point that there were a number of talented perimeter players who played back then such as oscar who could play in today's game, not to assert mj's dominance; the title of this video is a bit misleading. basically, we only praise the players we have seen, and not the players we haven't seen. i wish more ppl could just sit back and enjoy watching lbj, and not constantly dominate every discussion about him that he will never be as good as mj.

ReCharredSigh the problem isnt mj fans, the problem is fans of lebrons who never saw mj play, and dont understand the physical play that the nba was at the time. he was saying that you cant compare the 2 because of the play. could lebron play back then? absolutely, and he would have been a beast on defense but his offense would drop off a lot.

josh portie I'll be honest I didn't watch much 80's ball. But there is a reason why people fell in love with the likes of Larry Bird. There were ballers then who were ultra competitive and expressed it at times with trash talk. Guys like Bird, Magic, Jordan and others wanted nothing more than to be that guy who wants to take the last minute or play to put his team through a playoffs series or championship. Trash talk can't be conducted in today's game anymore and you just don't see ultra fiery competitiveness. Just guys who either have big games or fold under intense pressure. Granted there are a few teams who still embrace the team game aspect, but the entire league is still so geared to hero-ball and building a team for hero-ball.

josh portie this is what i don't understand. if skinny jordan in the 80s could get to the rim at will how would hand checking stop a bigger and faster lebron? i do admit that with all the hard fouls he might have been more injury prone i think both are great players and both would dominate in whatever era they play in

bball Jordan also knew how to work technique with his athleticism. It took Lebron 7 fucking years (and a good coach mind you) to develop a back to basket game to compliment his style of play. Lebron is a rhythm scorer and can be taken off his rhythm if he is consistently bodied. Guess what the Pistons tried to do with Jordan but being a skinny 6'6" 200lb guard with moves allows you to do? And credit to Jordan, there are some real dirty shit the Pistons bigs tried to pull to nearly injure him, but he kept coming back. I just think Lebron wouldn't be able to deal consistently in a series against the Bad Boy Pistons and he would force things too hard. Barkley is heavier than Lebron but since he's shorter, his lower dribbling is harder to take away when he attacks the hoop and being his size, he's harder to outbody.

Rick Shinn People talk about when LeBron said that the heat is gonna win 7 championships. He was most likely joking and he was laughing while he was saying it. Even if he wasnt... What else was he supposed to say?? Alot of people just saw Wade LeBron and Bosh and had already started thinking that they could go 82-0. If he just went up there and said that they were only gonna win 2 people wuld b like "He is stupid! their team is stacked" or "This is why he shouldnt be compared to Jordan, He isnt even confident. Jordan would have said 10 and won all 10, 10/10". So either way he was gonna be criticized. It's not even like he set up the celebration. Why shouldnt they be able to give sumthing to the fans and show em sum love. AT THE TIME It wuld have been stupid in my eyes if LeBron went up there and said "We are only gonna win 2 championships". everybody including me would have just said that his humbleness is an act and he is fake when he is in front of the cameras. But you speak things into existence and that Joke may just become a reality. only time will tell

MJ is 6 for 6 in the finals, six finals mvps, no loses. Lebron who? Never compare a legend to a great player, seriously you have to earn that GOAT title. If you have the flu? You have to play through it, and man up. If your the best player your drive should allow you to overcome cramps. If your the GOAT? You wouldn't pull a whodini in the finals, cause that isn't an option. If your the best? Regardless of your supporting cast or game circumstance, you would rise to the occasion to score 50 in finals, or to lead your team back when there doesn't seem to way overcome the point deficit. Jordan isn't perfect, but he did these things when his team needed him most. That's why Jordan's name is always in the conversation. He was the real deal.

Thanks Hubie Brown. Now I can question the numbers that Wilt, Russell, Oscar were putting and think to myself, the league wasn't as dominate and competitive as it was in the 80s and 90s, early 2000s. With the way Russell and Wilt were rebounding the ball at that time explains it. Cause the paint was small. No wonder. It's funny cause Shaq was just as tall as Kareem and Wilt but didn't seem to average 20 rebounds. Cause the league made the game more difficult so that the bigger dominate players didn't have the easier advantage.
@DarthVxderTV
@DarthVxderTV 10 жыл бұрын
Wilt grabbed a way higher percentage of his teams rebounds than shaq, he made Russell look like an amateur when he grabbed 55 rebounds on him and the celtics. You dont think it was competitive? Look up the players back then, especially the bigs. Also you think Jordan would take a beating? Referees from the 60s have confessed they would let guys elbow, cheapshot and even punch Wilt because he was too good for being black. Dont ever take anything away from Wilt without knowing how hard it was for him to play back then and he still managed to dominate like no other.

@@DarthVxderTV Jordan already took a beating from Boston he was double teamed or triple, hurt and injured, much more to the tyrant badboys piston were he had to endure the flagrant for 3yrs playing against them device a plan called the Jordan Rules! just to kept him at bay or slow him down, but MJ can't be stopped bruised injured and brutalized for the 3rd time against the likes of isiah,dumars,rodman,salley and laimbeer.. Jordan and the bulls, defeat them in the semi and won championship against the Lakers! Though wilt is strong athletic and all, during his time Bill and him are the only Titans at that time, the key was changed to 12ft cuz it's unfair for smaller players against their size! Also implented FT to slowdown physical dominant players them! Though, not much great players that can out run them compared in the golden era, whereas fast game strategies and aggressive fast superstars can out played him in them on court and score easily.. Everyone admires wilt for being dominant, such as rebounds, bocking and scoring (100pts historical in one game) but considered the few amount of competitions and changed rules to make it balanced, i think wilt will be dominant in the 80s 90s doing his thing but he will be limited in the court! And can't do much of a thing like he used to in the old rules! Though, he still a great player!

It's almost like a game of HORSE now. Everyone just stands around the 3 point line and jacks deep shots. Larry Legend would kick a lot of ass in today's league. Killer instinct and a better natural shot than any of the guys playing now. I think guys like Curry and Durant would not be able to deal with the Bad Boy Pistons. Larry and Michael were not afraid to outright BRAWL with those Piston thugs on the court. Curry and Durant are incredibly talented scorers, but they are toothpicks. They are fortunate to play in a league that doesn't allow any real contact.

The hand-checking ban was implemented because the league was spoiled by Michael Jordan. Fans wanted guards that average more than 30 ppg, dunk over opponents as well as dazzle and WOW the crowd. The only way to do this is by creating more space and limiting the defence to the extent that Steph Curry can average 30 ppg.

Great stuff. I agree with all the points made. The only thing is, the very dominant players of today, the absolute elite ( LeBron, Duncan, Wade, KD ), I believe would have fared fine in the 80s-90s. They obviously wouldn't play like they do today. But I believe that they could adapt to more physical defense over time. Also, let's not get to carried away. Not ALL the teams on the 80s played tough defense. Look at teams like the Nugggets for example.

I'd like to think that if Lebron played in the 80's and 90's, we wouldn't be comparing him to Jordan. We'd be comparing him to Magic and Bird. LBJ would've been more of a Point Forward and most of his dunks would be on the fastbreak. In his prime, I can imagine him putting numbers somewhere around 20-25 PPG, 8-10 RPG, and 8-10 APG. Where he'd really be deadly though would've been on the defensive end. He probably would've won DPOY at least once. I mean, can you imagine a guy as big and strong and quick and athletic as LBJ defending you with handchecks and forearm shoves?

If Lebron played in the 80’s, that would be the style of play he was accustomed to. The league changed the rules, not the players. 6’8”, 260#... he’d be just fine. The only way I’d criticize a player for not winning a championship in a team sport is if he was the main reason his team failed. I’d charge Lebron with Miami losing in 2011, but in every finals series after that, he was clearly the best player on the court.

Coach.... tell me if im right i don't like how they compare player from old time with old rule to new rule and younger player. older generation people fail to understand, the player today are bigger and stronger than back in the days, we have point guard as athletic as Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose, and we have small forward that have a build like a Karl Malone named Lebron. the injury rate of players are increasing, you can see player running from point A to point B, and somehow tore their ACL or bust a knee players back then were "smaller" on "AVERAGE", which is why those rule are never applied. imagine today's player, with today's strength and athleticism playing in the game where hand-check is legal, and allow to play as rough as the bad boy piston, people will get hurt. Mass + Velocity = Power, player nowadays generate more speed, and definitely more strength, they will not survive it. vice versa, imagine if the great defensive player today are allow to hand-check, with their speed and power, what makes you think a LeBron or Paul George cannot guard the player back then? the no-hand check rule sure have soften up the defence, but what if they can? the players today may/may not be softer than back then, since we disregarded that, you can train your muscle to takes hits, but the bones does not get any stronger, you are only as fragile as your bone. player in the older time will not survive today's speed and strength, with or without hand-check, vice versa, today's player will not survive the old rule

Actually the players were not smaller on average. You have MORE athletes today but the Masons, Oakleys, Barklys, Kemps, Kerseys, Thorps, Ewings, Oneals, Webers, on and on back then were just as strong. Coupled with the fact that players in the 80s and 90s played with a better basketball IQ and scheme. That is actually the x factor. A smarter way to player the man with the ball and had nothing to do with mass and velocity. A 1992 MJ was just as strong as the players now and just as fast. There was no real gain from him. With his IQ, mid-range, quickness on D, will, and as complete as he was he would be putting up numbers much greater than any player you see today and that is the true test of who is the GOAT

They change the rules to make scoring too damn easy. This way, it's ALOT easier to score. Everyone scores more and because of that they look better than they are. The average fan will never know the truth and THINK that there are now MANY Jordan's out there. Those same uninformed fans now think that Lebron is better than Jordan. They think that James Harden is a better scorer than Jordan. They think that R.Westbrook is better than the Big O'!! lol!!! Why wait for the players when you can make them with Rule Changes. Tripp Franco I agree it can mess with peoples heads, which is why apparently to some of these old guys there were no downsides to the game back then smh. I agree some things during those times were better, but some don't like to admit that some aspects of the game are better today. Team defense for example is more elaborate, we have better quantity and quality 3pt shooters, and better floor spacing on a consistent basis. One thing some old guys always like to bring up about the game from back then is posting up, and how not many people can do it today. but the reality is that defenses are better suited to guard post ups now, notice whenever a player posts up nowadays its not only stagnates the offense, but teams rotate better on 3pt shooters when you double team post players, making the inside out game less effective than once upon a time. Of course guys from back then were better mid range shooters, and were more fundmentally sound overall. But these are just a few things to prove that all these guys arguing about whose era had better players refuse to look at facts that prove, no era was better, its just that each one was different. Now debating which era was more entertaining is up for debate.

It's not even basketball anymore. It's an exhibition league at best. And 1 a refs on the floor to disguise that's it's a beauty pageant got highlights and KZfaq clips. Was an obsessed fan from 88 to 2014. Haven't watched on yrs. They ruined it. NBA panicked bc they had perfection from 80 to 98 a bird magic Jordan and when it ended they didn't know what to do.

Lebron's Physical Stats: •6'8" •~260 lbs. •7 ft wingspan •44 in vertical •Karl Malone build •4.6 sec 40 •probably could tackle a truck No one in their right mind would try to get edgy or fight Lebron, especially in an era where he'd be allowed to fight back (something he can't do in today's game).

Are you serious? First of all LeBron is not built like that. You assume because he is built that way he can fight? lol. Second the Kerseys, Masons, Oakleys, Barkleys, Malones, Thorps, and all of those NBA top 50 centers were banging each other. Same way Lebron would. Its James that would have to adjust. For one, he isn't going to be allowed to get a board, get up to speed and not be picked up until he gets to the paint. He doesn't even finish above guys now like MJ and Nique and Kemp did so with contact be allowed and better rim protectors AND arm bars and hand checking he would have to develop a jumper way earlier in his career. The NBA back then wasn't sticks being physical with one another, they were grown men

okay I'll say this... IF you make zone illegal again, which it was before the 2000's, and allow players to be more physical, considering Lebron's strength and quickness and ball handling do you see him really struggling to keep driving to the rim? People act like Lebron is soft... he got his nose broken while dunking on the leagues leading shot blocker during the season. yes, he complains. why? because the he feels that the CURRENT RULES means that maybe he got fouled on certain plays. btw, zone matters. If I was Lebron's size, I'd rather play in a physical league than against* the fucking Spurs zone defense. edit: for context, since Hubie forgot to tell you guys, in the 60's they played at a MUCH faster pace, allowing 20-30 more possessions per game. Many times people have adjusted Lebrons stats from our current pace (which is amongst the slowest it's ever been) to the pace of the 60's and it came out as like 38, 11 and 12 per game. I know people enjoy hating on Lebron, but context does matter. Pace does matter. Zone being illegal back then does matter. Research that before ya'l jump on the crampgate band wagon.

and that's why you know nothing about basketball. The handchecking and what not from the single 1 on1 defense back then allowed easier help and back then they'd just clobber you. Lebron would struggle because he would be pushed to where they want him and its a known fact that he struggles with well contested shots. Do your homework before questoning Hubie Brown.

dave elsea "Lebron would struggle because he would be pushed to where they want him" name perimeter players from that era strong enough to just push Lebron wherever they wanted too? Was Isaih Thomas getting pushed? how about MJ? matter fact, how come player's that are far weaker than Lebron didn't "struggle"?

why are u not listening to the video above? every players struggled that time, so players at that time has a lot of foot works, tricks and skills to counter the hand check. and if u really think 90s NBA didnt have zone defense, enof said, u never watch any 90s games.

bdaddymar34 Hubie Brown just said that players struggled to score and NBA had to change to make it easier to score. To be great in that era, they needed to elevate and to develop ways to score (MJ's famous fadeaway). No one can really push LeBron wherever they want to, but many could keep him away from the basketball. Barkley, Mouring, Pippen, Malone, Rodman...etc

zone was used b4 2000's in the nba. do your research. and hubie isnt really talking about the 60s. hes talking bout mostly the 80's and where players were very fundamentally sound.
