Refitting the rear wing to my 2CV wasn't exactly problem free, so I decided to swap out the boot struts on my Ford AU Fairmont. So much better!

I did the boot struts on the Micra the other day as I could feel something was wrong and one of the struts was rusty and flaking off in the centre, I was quite struggling to fit it until my sister reminded me that those fittings are for the parcel shelf strings and that these other fittings are for the struts 😁 Went on easily after that.

Haha we all do stupid things. This afternoon, me and my father couldn't figure out why the top mount wasn't going to back onto the suspension strut after replacing the spring when I suddenly realised that we were putting it on upside down, oops. Only took... 30 mins to notice

I have experienced the same feeling Ian on the "as I'm here I'll just do (insert job name here)" and it's just not worked. In my case one or two of these "I'll just do..." have ended up in tears. As I'm now older and arguably slightly more grumpy I hope that I've developed that instinct called "I think I'll do more damage if I carry on so I'll put everything back together and walk away and get a mug of tea instead". To keep the Hub Nut tribe busy you could ask (then quickly duck) for a new bespoke home knitted headliner? I'll get my coat.......... Oh! I see you already have it.

Love the flounce! 🤣 Reminds me of doing struts on a mk2 TT. My prop gave way and slammed the boot shut. When I opened my eyes, the strut was poking out a fresh dent in the body between it and the tailgate 😱 not my finest moment! If you're feeling especially brave tapping the spoiler's mounting studs with a mallett once the nuts are off, you might shock it free.....maybe.....

I'm psychic! "It hasn't gone to plan" I started to smile 10 seconds before you said it. Also, headliners are easy! Far easier to repair than to remove and replace. All you need is a stiff brush, a can of spray bear glue, and some new cloth. I used a short pile velvet. Looked great!

AU/BA & BF have a foam seal under the wing (these were hard to get even when the cars were new), i got 3mm urethane foam (i think thats what it is called), has sticky backing. Also- you need to pull the boot liners out, as the AU & BA series Falcons had issues with poor sealant being applied to the underside of the parcel tray area, wheel arches & rain gutter around the leading edge of the boot itself, i used fish oil & cavity wax where i could get it, and applied more body sealant

If you are going to be out and about doing car shows you should get a four berth motorhome it doesn't need to be top of the line but it means that you could do more of the car shows with Ms Hubnut Hubnuts in training and dog Hubnut. But above all you can with a motorhome you can do more sales of all your merchandise and wright of some of your tax against your motorhome as it is a business expense. It's something to think about and a motorhome is something to add to the Hubnut fleet that you can use 😉

Thanks for the update HubNut (and Ms. HubNut!) - for the headliner, would removal (if it's as easy as you say it is?), a good clean, and a couple of cans of spray-on fabric adhesive not do the job? Also, top tip to avoid greasy fingers when applying grease - leave a lollipop stick, or an off cut of a zip tie in the tub and use that - saves searching around for rags al the time! Stay safe and keep 'em comin' !

Reminds me of the time I went to shut the tailgate on the M-reg Renault Savanna that I had, when one of the struts gave way due to wear and corrosion. Somehow the tailgate still managed to close - and nothing got dented or broken - despite the strut poking out of the side of the car at a jaunty angle. The weird part was that it made the rear wiper come on and I couldn't turn it off, so I had to pull the fuse to make it stop. I never did fix it, but the overall condition of the vehicle at the time meant that it wasn't worth doing.
