I was a majorette for 6 of my Jr. and high school years! I loved it and was self taught! Oh, and my Sr. high school got to march in President Kennedys inauguration parade in1961! My old baton looks just like his!!

Joel you are the best. We are friends on tik toc. I am 65 and still teach baton twirling. Hope one day we can meet and do a little twirling together. God Bless and keep twirling

You did great, Governor! Joel is incredible!!! I started lessons at 6. My first performance was to "Rockin' Robin" at Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga. Was later a majorette in Jr high & high school. We had to be in the band to be majorettes; so during football season, I was a majorette (we twirled fire on the coldest nights)! After football season, I was in the concert band & played Alto Clarinet. Sadly, I placed 2nd in the GA state ratings representing my high school. I was 3rd in the nation for "fancy strutting" in the DMA contest & was also in a 2 time national championship majorette corps called "Betty's Georgettes" (our teacher, Betty Ann, got a scholarship to be solo twirler for the U of GA in the late 60s & she WAS as great as Joel). We "Georgettes" practiced 6 to 8 hours a day in the summer & 2 days a week the rest of the year but it paid off (just not monetarily)! We performed at the U of GA once & every home game for a semi-pro football team (Chattanooga Cherokees). Joel made the double elbow & neck rolls look easy but gave me a fit! I was too tense (threw up after ever solo twirling competition). I'd chipped a front tooth doing a mouth roll while laughing! Single elbow rolls were easier! It was harder for us to spin around because we only had basic Keds tennis shoes that weren't slick on bottom so we'd "stick" to the floor but unbelievably, my batons & fire baton were just like his. The basics are easy but being as good as Joel is rare! He's a natural! Wish I had those days back & know what I know now! I want a do-over!😊
