Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, Huey Lewis, Madonna, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Van Halen, AC/DC, Joan Jett, The GO GO's , Whitney Houston, Peter Gabriel, INXS, The Police, RUN DMC, MC Hammer, LL Cool J.. and.. we still had LEGENDS like Sinatra, Queen, Ozzy performing ....that's just to name SOME of the amazing music we grew up with in the 80's! The BEST decade to grow up in!

I saw him in 1984 at the Turtle Bay Hilton hotel in Kauai and STILL regret not talking to him. He was talking to 2 girls, and his wife and child were seated nearby. (they were in the pool area) I was just to chicken. I should have done like my dad did when selling to celebrities, and just chatted about various things instead of the standard music questions. I think it would have been one of the best times that I remember.

I don't know. HL & The News are logged jammed into my memory but in a different way than other music of that same time. I guess I was in high school when most of these songs came out. I was not a HL & The News fan per se. Songs would come on the radio, I could take it or leave it. I didn't dislike it, but I was into Zeppelin and Sabbath, Rush and the Stones, Maiden and Priest, not HL. But there was something about his music that was okay with me. It was upbeat and positive. It was relaxing and catchy. Years later, I still don't "reach for HL" but I do like it. He is definitely underrated. He has a place in 80s cultural history; from Back to the Future and We Are the World, he is as important to the 80s as Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Tom Cruise. But he gets little to no recognition.
