BA57’s Climb-Out from Heathrow into perfect cloud/moisture conditions, capturing the insane wing Downwash. This is relative to any aircraft but luckily, when the weather conditions are right, we get to see this amazing aerodynamic phenomena.
Now you know what it’s like sometimes at the Paddock, especially from the 777’s 💪🏻

You have caught some amazing sights over the years, Jerry, but that was truly spectacular! It makes visible that which is usually invisible and demonstrates why ATC needs to warn “caution.. wake turbulence.. departing A380.😮

Beautiful! Great shot there Jerry. Wingtip vortices turning into downwash - it's wonderful when it's humid enough you can actually see them all. 😊

I am reminded of the time when we went to see the Lancaster Bomber Just Jane at East Kirkby. Just before they started the engines there was an announcement over the tannoy..... "will the two ladies sat on the bench directly behind the plane please move to the side as the back wash is not inconsiderble....." Lancasters, of course, have four Rolls Royce Merlin engines and they have some poke in them, when at full chat, especially at zero feet altitude.

I been flying big jets for 31+ years. I never heard of a “downwash.” What you are actually looking at is “wingtip vortices” from the departing 380. Think of the vortices as horizontal tornadoes. No such thing as a downwash and would never be reported as such. Tower might caution turbulence from departing A380 by saying “caution turbulence from the departing A380.” You can also request 2 minutes behind the 380 before taxiing onto the runway for takeoff. BUT, no one ever says “downwash.” Come on guys, learn the lingo.
@MrSchwabentier

Well, NASA for example calls it downwash, so just because you haven’t heard it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
