At 04.12 in the evening, the crater collapsed towards the back, and sent all the lava flooding down into the "back" of the crater. I only missed the first 3-4 seconds of the collapse.

Wow. Just wow! A good example of why it is important to stay a safe distance away from the cone.

Amazing, you ARE the man! You were the first on site right? I saw your live stream from the fissure opening. Wow you're either the luckiest volcano watcher in Iceland or very committed to spending hours and hours up there. 4am! That is hard core, we are very thankful you got some footage of this, a shame you missed the build up to the collapse but we can't have everything!

Haha thanks man! Yeah, we're a dedicated group that have been stalking this cano a LOT! The first fissure opening, and now this - is so crazy to get on video! But very happy that people enjoy the footage!

@@urrissThis is amazing footage. I missed this stream that day, but I still saw the collapse on the other streams. I had just woken up and wanted to check if there had been any events when I opened up one stream when that section collapsed. Well that's one way to wake up, right?

Thanks for the different, spectacular view of the collapse. This clearly shows why you never get close to a volcano. There was no chance to outrun that initial lava flow from the collapse. I remember someone from the eruption a couple years ago was climbing the actual cone of the volcano on one of the live cams.

The way it just gushed out of there and covered the entire area in about 30 seconds is really quite scary. Makes you remember that lava is a liquid and can move just as quickly as water when it's not restricted to a set path, like most lava flows are.
@leechild465511 ай бұрын
Ya, when I saw that rushing lava spread out like that I freaked! That would be horrible if people were close to it at that moment. Spreading faster than you could run. It aint safe to be within 100 yards of these things. unreal

Great catch! We can only get an idea of the magnitude from a drone, the crater is probably over 30m high, so that is a lot of lava. It also shows why you should not get too close to the cone: Running across a broken surface to get away from it would not be easy!

@urriss11 ай бұрын
Hi there! You can actually see a dirt road in the video, that the lava is flooding over. Look to the left in the video, there is a slim light line. That is a dirt road, approximately 2,5 - 3 meters wide maybe?

Awesome video and thanks for recording history. Never underestimate the magnificent power of "Mother Earth". We are just mere mortals in comparison to this and the many other catastrophes happening around the globe. Also, no one can stop the many other things coming on our horizon. It is all part of a cyclical procession and change happening in our universe. Blessings to all, stay safe and aware, help one another, no fear, and eyes to the skies.

It still slightly boggles my mind to think that's literally liquid rock. The amount of heat is insane. I'd to see how lava looks on an infrared camera(specifically NIR, not thermal). It should be much brighter than the red-orange light we can see.
