At the end of 2018 we got this huge CVS candy haul! None of it is even expired! This shows the amount of food waste created by large companies! This was all donated :D

Samantha Noelle it could’ve been expired, recalled, cross contaminated mouse got into the box of candy, lots of things. I worked for Walgreens, and while it appears to be in great condition it could very well not be

That is so crazy someone threw all that out! I would of liked to have seen one of the milk cartons just to see the expiration date bc if that milk wasn't expired that's a damn shame!!! Someone could have used that milk! Even it only had a few days left! Me and my kids can go through a carton of milk in 1 or 2 days!!

I'd love to get a candy haul. I have a cvs by my house. I will keep a eye out. I'm new to dumpster diving, my area is pretty cool about it. They mind their business. Security even stopped and don't care. My kids would love if I hit a candy haul.

My friend works at CVS. She said they throw away so much good food that it’s crazy. She said they aren’t even allowed to take it out back and save it because it could cost them their job

Yeah, some stores do that. Shame...what a waste. They told us where I used to work at, if they let the employees have it it would encourage us to steal. Even if we wanted to pay for it at a discount price, they would still say no.

It sucks seeing this. Because the cvs here in Des Moines , iowa. They lock them and it upsets me very much or if people are getting to the dumpster before they lock it at night. I don't know anyone here in des Moines that would give anything to my family

That isn't expire date. That is sell by date. I have swedish fish for 2 years now and they are still good. Unwrapped too. Sugar doesn't go bad. It is a preservative for other foods that do go bad. That's why they put it in milk, to help it stay fresh.

When I worked at CVS about ten years ago, my manager would call a food bank and they would pick up our throw out items every week. And he would let us go through them as well and sell them at a discount, like $1.00 for a whole box of stuff. It didn’t encourage us to steal. Who needs to steal when you can get all that stuff anyway?

If anything, it encourages us to be more diligent about finding out of date items and pulling them off the shelf! So it actually motivated me to work harder. Even if I personally didn’t get any of the items, as long as I knew they were going to be used by someone and not just thrown away, that made me really happy. I can’t STAND waste.

i work at cvs.. and you do know that all of this candy was thrown because it was returned or because we did outdates on it.. meaning it’s all expiring within the next 30-60 days. and it doesn’t get donated because of possible lawsuits etc... im all for diving for useful things but getting food from a dumpster is disgusting, especially because i know why it’s in there.

But you're wrong. Some of this didnt expire for almost a year. Maybe someone needs glasses because they mistook 2019 for 2018. Some did have a sell by date within 60 days though, which is totally fine to donate, eat, etc. We blessed a lot of people with this food.
