I love the fact that Good Molecules is available here in Chile in retail - as many other famous/affordable skin care brands are not (Like the Ordinary, Inkey List, Revolution). Did you see that they are even lowering their prices and showing that off on social media? when did that ever happened before??? haha Thanks for the review

I used to be sooo nervous buying from them because I have fungal acne that's triggered SO easily! But seeing them be completely transparent about even the PERCENTAGES of ingredients is so amazing! I love that they've decided to do that, I think I'll finally try them!

Hey Alice- I’m a little late to the skincare game but have been loving your channel for a few months now. You are definitely my favorite youtuber :) Great content, love your perspective, your focus on literature, and your humor! I also love that you discuss fragrance a lot and how it’s a personal decision. So many youtubers are like no don’t do it it will kill you- or no it’s completely fine- but you are always sure to discuss the pros and cons and how it’s more complicated than just that. Along with how money dictates what is being studied which no one talks about...ugh you’re just the best. I love that you mentioned your distaste for gel cleansers- I’ve been using them for years and have been underwhelmed not really knowing there were other options until I dove into the skincare community. I finally ordered some good molecules products per your recommendation and my initial opinion is great- I honestly can’t believe how cosmetically elegant they are for the price it’s shocking. I’m curious to know your thoughts on their new BHA cream- it definitely seems like your type of product. If you end up trying it let us know! I just received mine and my first impression is good. I’m thinking I might go back and try the toner and cleanser now....also the yerba mate eye cream which I wanted to try this time around but is out of stock :( Thanks for posting! Love as always- my life would be a little sadder without your videos in it 😆

Aww thank you so much! Yeah, I understand why a more simple approach works better on youtube - people tend to like an easy explanation. "Just avoid fragrance and you're good to go!" Sadly, that perspective is truly OVERsimplified. Just like how we can't possibly look at an INCI and actually know much about a product (excluding with brands like Good Molecules/Ghost Democracy - simply because they list out all percentages). With other brands, it's a guess. Perhaps an educated guess at times, but still a guess. I will forever be baffled by the lack of attention certain brands get (Good Molecules very much being included there!)

I swear this is my last skincare hop lol. Ive tried so many toners and serums that i THOUGHT were my HG. I’ve used this line only 1 night. When I woke up my face was so bright and fresh looking. One freakin night! The reviews on this is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Even some of the higher end stuff has plenty of bad reviews. But I cannot find anything on GM that have had any recent negativity. I know it’s been revamped so the negativity i have read was from a couple years ago. But anyway I had to try it and boy I’m glad I did. Thank you for this review! I love your personality! ♥️

The next Trendmood box has a partnership with Good Molecules becoming available January 7th (per reddit, but coming soon regardless). I read the price is $32 (not sure if that includes shipping) and all the following items are included. I've added price based on full size versions sold on Good Molecule's site for your convenience, but I have not confirmed all products included in the box will be full size. 1. Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel *NEW! ($6) 2. Niacinamide Brightening Toner ($14) 3. Discoloration Correcting Serum ($12) 4. Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($6) 5. Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer ($14) 6. When there are PubMed articles as references... 💯💯💯 What a thorough review! I have a lot of the products you shared. I just finished the cleanser and I’m so sad! I have a ton in backlog, so I can’t repurchase right now but I did enjoy that one so much. The only thing I didn’t love was the discoloration serum. I just didn’t like the consistency of it and it gave me a foamy look if I over-applied even a little. The priming moisturizer is amazing though. That with the Kosas Face Oil is a match made in heaven. 👍🏼👍🏼 Great video, as always!

I remember that initial GM review--I'm so glad they removed the citrus oils! I'd never understood the binary distinction between sensitive vs normal skin until I heard your more nuanced take on ~allergy-prone~ skin. As someone who also suffers from dry skin/cystic acne, my skin thrives on tret/AHA's/straight Vaseline but I'll get red and itchy when I apply naturally derived products marketed toward people with sensitive skin. I think my face just hates nature

I just got a moisturizing cleansing bar from klairs to try out so I think I'll definitely be ordering one for it before I start using it to make it last longer. Thank you for this trial + review- I've been waiting for it, I LOVE Good Molecules and this video is much appreciated. I do love that moisturizing primer, but as someone with very dry skin, I kinda wish they'd have a heavier moisturizer. But I guess it could be applied over one of the oils. (Or any good oil, really.) Hm, that's an idea! I haven't tried the bar soap but as long as it's formulated correctly, I tend to loveqqq good bar facial soaps. For instance, Drunk Elephant has two cleansing bars and I prefer both of them 100% over the DE Micellar water and their Beste cleanser. So I think I may order GM's bar soap. I'm also interested in those hydrogel eye patches. Wrt the Pineapple powder enzyme cleanser, I actually love it and have never noticed any funky smell! Could be because I'm pregnant- which tends to screw with your sense of smell. But in any case, thanks again for the review and I cant wait for you to try Stratia! Their stuff is almost unbelievably good, IMO, esp for the price. If you haven't ordered from them yet, may I offer a few suggestions? Ok, their famous Liquid Gold, of course. And the Fortify oil blend. I'd really like to try this one based on the ingredient list alone. (And also....that price!) I got a very small sample at one point- like maybe two uses?- and I predictably loved it. Last but not least, they have a newer product, an anti-aging serum with hyluaronic acid, niacinamide and DMAE. All ingredients that I've tried before and have been happy with the anti-aging results of. Anyway, just some ideas to throw out at ya. :) And thank you again for the review!

The Stratia retinol? That is one thing I haven't tried yet from their line. I'm on Rx tretinoin at a pretty high dose (.1%) and I think theirs is maybe for skin slightly less acclimated to retinols? And bummer about the serum! The HA and DMAE one....I've tried it once or twice (in a sample) and was impressed enough to want the full size. But yeah....it's either OOS or when it is in stock it hits me right between paydays lol.

@@andie1508 I find it very creamy while being light, didn’t cause me any irritation while alternating with Tretinoin as I only use my prescription twice a week. I wish I could stock up more but with the Shipping costs and customs, it’s very tricky to get it in the UK. I haven’t tried their retinol, but I do have a drugstore rec: No 7 advanced retinol. It’s a little more expensive, but it’s an incredible blend of .3% retinol with matrixyl 3000, no irritants/fragrance, only catch is it can be more pricey (but coupons/deals exist - Walgreens has been best for me with this brand). The GM one looks more gentle which isn’t bad, I’m just a big fan of the peptide/retinol combo As for the BHA gel, I have tried it and I do love it! Very well done product and an excellent level for daily use!

Hello! I really hope you see this! My current skin care routine is this and I was hoping to see if you think it’s a good routine. Facial Cleanser: Elf Superclarify Facial Toner: Elf Supertone Serums: The Ordinary Buffett and The Ordinary Caffine Solution 5% + EGEC Moisturizer: Elf Superhydrate I wanted your opinion on if this seem good and if it would be safe to add 2 products to it! I would like to add The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc. I have decent skin, I don’t get a lot of breakouts. My nose however does get quite a few blackheads. My skins a combination skin type! I’m open to any suggestions you have. Thanks so much. Love your videos!!

Only you know if your routine is working for you - skin is variable and our needs differ so much. But I WILL say to patch test those new products, and a few things to keep in mind: the peeling solution is very strong, and may not pair well with the elf toner (as it contains glycolic acid as well). At the very least, I'd space out your usage of the peeling solution with the toner. Basically: never in the same day (the thought makes my skin scared LOL!) Also know that TO's niacinamide may be at an irritating percentage - we just don't know, as there haven't been any studies looking at 10% niacinamide (most cut off at 4-5%). Anecdotal reports seem to sway wildly from love to hate with that product Hope that helps!

Would you recommend using the Priming Moisturizer before or after sunscreen if you’re going to be wearing makeup? Usually sunscreen is advised as the “last step of skincare” so it’s a little confusing with a 2-in-1 product like this.

@@AliceintheRabbitHole I have been thinking hard about your statement as I realised I have never given that a careful thought and I have an addiction to confess. When a formulation does not work, I had this chore to get rid of the product, mostly on my body, my husband's face, giveaway, re-sell if it is something that is hyped up or just wait for it to expire. When I got rid of it, there is always an open sense of achievement. The problem with this addiction of mine is when I found a good formulation, I truly feel some deep-down sense of unhappiness because I dislike repurchasing as I always wanted to try more new products. That said, I have made repurchases when there are too many fails in a row. A few days ago, a KZfaqr had a nicer term on what I refer to as an addiction, she said it is her hobby. All these years, even when I was lazy with skincare. I only have 1 skincare item that is consistent and it is not the best because I dislike it is scented - the Laneige original sleeping mask. I have tried many others but none gave me the same feeling especially when my other steps failed, it seems to have the ability to save the day by sucking up especially the grease beneath and always provided a balanced level of moisture. It has been with me for more than 15 years and I must say saved a lot of my skincare fails.

Hi Alice! How is the cleansing balm on eye makeup, especially mascara? I have been using an oil forever, but now that I am using retinol any rubbing to try and massage the oil to remove mascara irritates the heck out of the tops of my cheeks. If the balm can do the job better then I am in.
@AliceintheRabbitHole
@AliceintheRabbitHole 3 жыл бұрын
Ooh. I do know what you're talking about! A couple of options here: so if the mascara is extra tough to remove (and I'm very convinced this is a trait of some mascaras), I'd recommend a dual-phase remover. I use Lancome's bi-facil; that's a pricey pick unless you catch it on sale, but I've heard Neutrogena has one that compares. Another approach is to switch to a tubing mascara! These are gaining more momentum lately for being easy to remove. Blinc is a classic here, Maybelline Snapscara is also a good option (although perhaps a newer gen tubing mascara) This is all to say: I find balms and oils remove makeup comparatively. So I'm not sure switching will solve the issue. It's possible that a balm might help as it does stay in place better than oils - but it wouldn't be my top suggestion. Hope that helps!

Does the literature say anything about effective percentages of Kojic acid and/or licorice root?

Tbh, only sort of. Those ingredients tend to be paired with others vs studied in an isolated fashion, at least from what I've seen. I was so into the cleansing balm until I saw that it contains Polyethylene which is essentially a microplastic and quite damaging to the environment on the long run. How do you feel about it? Thank you for your very through review of Good Molecules ✨
@AliceintheRabbitHole
@AliceintheRabbitHole 3 жыл бұрын
It's kind of a nuanced conversation tbh. I really don't like when companies try to justify their variety of microplastic (HEAVILY side-eyeing Glow Recipe here and their "but our polyethylene is different!"), but it is a reality that microplastics are quite detrimental. The flip side of the coin is that I'm not entirely sure how to formulate a cleansing balm without ANY polyethylene, and also the quantity used is realistically quite small. To give you an analogy: it's kind of like when I see people talk about buying products in sustainable packaging while they nibble on their take-out lunch. One of these is far more cumulative in its effects (how often do you eat vs how often do you buy products). AND YET for all of our actions, it still doesn't compare to the impact of corporations...and yet customer preference still drives the choices the corporations make (at least the visible ones) So in a conversation of "let's all do our part", I would genuinely say: I worry less about the minute amount of polyethylene and more about how much food waste I produce. This isn't a perfect answer, but none ever is. 😕
