Hey party people! Thanks so much for hanging out with me while I finally share with you some house updates with the addition - so our house addition updates. Yes, it is supposed to be finished, but ce la vie. lol Hopefully it won't be too much longer until I am showing you the finished product and decorating these incredible rooms! I'm sharing most of the drama, as much as I can squeeze in a 20 minute span. haha know that there is sooo much happening with the addition it's impossible to share every detail with you but it's mostly frustrating hah! I also cook up two of my favorite soups!! a pioneer woman fav; bacon and bean soup and a better than Panera broccoli cheddar soup! So good and perfect timing for this weather we are having! hope you enjoy hanging out with me! OH YES I also clean my house a bit and sort through some Christmas gifts!!

Kim, you are the Mother across the room. So loving and giving to all of your family. When you talked about your children being able to move back home if needed I had tears come to my eyes. That was something my Mother always believed. God bless you and your family. Thanks for sharing your life with us.❤❤❤

But what if your child almost an adult 17 turned 18 busted a million huge holes in his bedroom walls along with a lot of other holes in the hallways and damaged brand new kitchen cabinet doors because he thought he was someone else, that is excuse I get. Then leaves the home two weeks after he turned 18 and says going out the door, "I don't have to listen to you and follow your rules anymore. " then he becomes homeless because his choices are off the wall. He is now 20, still messed up but getting help. Should I trust him? He even threatened to burn our home down. We adopted him at 7 and once 2020 hit his life got turned upside down. Our walls are still not fixed nor anything else. 😢

We let his older brother and his girlfriend move in with us twice and they were both respectful. First time was a bit harder because they were college students and they were used to living on their own and doing their things and it was 2021 so they had to move off campus but in 2023 they moved back because we offered while they waited for their new apartment to get done and it was actually wonderful to have them! ❤. I would do it again. Our daughter is 18 now and in her Senior year of hs. She doesn't trust her middle brother as well.

I love that you all made the addition thinking about multi-generational homes. We bought our forever home with the same in mind. My mother in law will never move in on her own accord but we have the room if needed, same with our kids when they become adults. I believe whole heartedly that family takes care of family and thankfully we have been blessed enough to be able to purchase a home that set us up for that if needed. Good luck with all the addition work, and yes I would hire a lawyer on the hallway issue. Merry Christmas to my favorite KZfaqr. ❤️

You guys are smart people so I'm sure you have contacted an attorney and have been working with a building inspector to make sure they do get done is done correctly. Fir the floor, you could put a transition of mosaic that coordinates with the current tile and then another flooring or the flooring you chose. You have way more patience than I do.

Commenters are correct. Hire a litigator who fights insurance companies. Call Tragos for referral. He is in your backyard. Please use ikea for your closets. They will help design it and install it. Find a good human to install the wallpaper once the contractors are gone and you are living in the space. Hire a local cement guy for the patio. Get referrals from neighbors and bids. The chaos is shameful . ❤

Why did they leave the floor in the closet then build the wall on top of flooring instead of the cement? No wonder the tile guy broke a tool trying to remove it. 😳 I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Yes. I feel the same way. The world is so crazy and the prices are insane. I want my kids to always know they have a place with us and their families too if they need it. And multigenerational homes were a thing in America too for a long time but with certain changes in our culture over time it's less common. But the addition is beautiful!

It’s been such a frustrating experience. I just want it to be over. I told Alex if I knew about this before moving in I’m not sure we would have moved in. We kept getting told it would be a simple thing. Had the architect come out before we bought the house etc etc. 😩 It will be over soon.

I think you do a great job with your Christmas gifts for your children. You are the middle ground to me. You don’t go overboard and you don’t make them feel like they didn’t get enough. And buying for 5 kids is expensive! Plus buying for other family members and friends as well! I think you’re a great mom that any kid would love to have.

My heart goes out to you about the addition. I can’t believe these contractors can get away with not being done in a timely manner. It must be so frustrating to micro manage!! It looks incredible so far and that crab wallpaper and blue cabinets will look incredible together! Would enjoy watching what u purchased for Christmas 🎄!! Hugs friend❤

If you do the built ins from ikea then you know that if in the future plans change the closet can be added and removed to accommodate. That’s what I love about ikea. Not to mention all the organization goodies ikea has and always comes up with. Hope that helps. 😊

Kim you don't have to justify every frustration you have with this project. Any logical human being understands that you are great full for this addition. These things are frustrating and that's ok. The people you have to justify your frustrations to aren't reasonable people. I can't even imagine the frustrations you are going through. But I pray that it just gets done and is done well. So that you and your family can move on from this catastrophe and be happy and content ❤. I have a friend going through construction process for over a year now. It's one disaster after another. Am I sitting there saying oh you should just be great full? No I'm listening and acknowledging her frustrations. It's what good people do.

I have 4 kids who are getting to be big kids. We give each 3 nice gifts but we have 2 sets of grandparents nearby and when you add it all up, they get a ton of stuff! As they get older, we focus more on experiences to spend time together more than the stuff. But I remember when they were little and it was all about the stuff! Great memories! Enjoy each year!

Hi Kim, for the storage closets, don’t do drawers. Your doors aren’t the full width of the closet so the drawer width will be reduced and you’ll have wasted space on each side or worse, you won’t be able to open full width drawers. I guess you could put drawers on the sides but I don’t think you’d get them wide enough to be useful. I would just do nice shelves and you can always add to it in the future.

Listen, I love that you are doing this for your family. I love that you don't believe your kids need to move out the second they turn 18. I love the European idea of a multi-generational home. I am one of six kids and growing up my parents always made it clear we had a place to come back to. My father has since passed away, but my mother still makes it clear all her children are welcome back home. My sister got married and her and her husband lived in my mothers finished basement until they were able to find a house. I just got married in June and she once again offered for us to live with her until we were able to find a home in this market. We loved the idea so much that we decided to build a multi-generational home so she could live with us instead. I will never understand why Americans think independence comes when you move out, it can very much still come when living with loved ones.

Side note: Home Depot has amazing closet systems. I redid my walk in closet. No drawers but just the standard white shelving system I think back then was like $200 bucks. You can add drawers too. I don’t know with inflation what it would cost.

I'm exactly the same with presents - I don't really care about getting any myself (not really used to getting any presents, and never anything thoughtful), but I'm always sooo excited for others to open theirs, because I put a lot of thought and effort into them 😃 I just like to make people happy, as much as my tiny budget allows 😃

I'm totally with you Kim on having a home for your kids no matter how old they are. We currently have our youngest son and daughter in law both 24. And their 3 month old baby girl living with us. We are in the UK and the rental prices are ridiculous. I have scaled down Christmas this year in every way as I'm currently waiting on spinal surgery. Hopefully next year we can celebrate like we are used to xx🎉

Having a safe place for your kids to come back to is so important . I moved back home after my gap year to go to school and it was great. My husband lived at home until almost 25 and we were able to save enough to buy a house shortly after getting married.

I'm sick with strep throat, and I thought okay at least I have your video to look forward to as I'm swallowing glass. Then I realized it was Friday 🤦‍♀️. But good news, still sick on Saturday so that scenario did in fact come true lol. There's so much sadness going on within my family right now but I'm so thankful for my son, who still lives at home because he wants to eat and have a roof over his head, who is taking a half day off work to come and decorate the house for me. You guy's are smart to think ahead with your kids always having a place to land. Christmas shopping, almost done but never really at the same time 😂😂❤❤.

😂😂😂 OMGOSH you crack me up!!! You say everything I think 😂. I just love you ❤ We dealt with these same things a few years ago. New total house flooring started in Summer, ended up hosting Thanksgiving with no new flooring....just some "lovely" float material here and there, and constant construction dust, which I just told everyone that I had had the house flocked for the holidays 😂 Hang in there ❤

Hi Kim. Two of my three kids have moved back home. We were supposed to downsize when they all flew the coup but i couldn't and wouldnt buy another home that didn't have room for all of them. Turns out mom knows best ha ha. I love your energy, and enjoy everything you do. Sorry its been such a hard slog with the addition, you'll get there in the end 😜. I think it was so cute with Wolfgang taking out the items as you were placing them in the totes. You really do a lot and no wonder you are tired. I did a lot for my kids and it was always so magical. Christmas morning Jim’s parents would come see us and you couldn’t walk in the living room. Take care Kim.
