@@gilbertfrayre3436 Theoretically yes, but if its anything like the K series engine, it will last north of 2-300k miles with tune. You just have to keep up with your maintenance. So spark plug will probably have to get changed sooner, oil changed at 4K instead of 5-6K that the minder will remind you at, transmission flush every 30K. Stuff like that.

Nice gains for just a tune!!!
4 жыл бұрын
Nothing Special. With boosted cars, most will see good gains from just a good tune to be a bit more aggressive from Factory standards. What I want to see is what the limits of the Honda Fit block are. The block itself is a Honda Fit block, that Honda just used for the 10th gen SI and they used stronger internals for the turbo setup. In my opinion, its a significant downgrade from K-series and you have zero options to do an NA build. Whereas with the 8th and 9th gens you could really go any direction you wanted(NA or boost) and be perfectly fine and get big numbers either way on just a stock motor. My k20/K24 frankenstein made 260whp with just cams. When I went boost, I made 450whp on a stock block and drove that setup for 4 years without any motor issues.
@nikkumk2
@nikkumk2 4 жыл бұрын
@ 9th gens are horrible for NA. Hardly any gains from bolt ons. The heads are trash and the best route is to go boost. I know because I have one. 8th gens are great though
4 жыл бұрын
@@nikkumk2 .. Nah, 9th gens are perfectly fine NA.. And you can always do a headswap.. I made 245whp and 201tq with a k24a2 head on my 9th gen, 40degree VTC and DC drop in cams.. Full bolt ons.. Ported RBC matched to 70mm TB, custom downpipe and full 3 inch exhaust.. Was perfectly fine NA.. Internals maybe not be quite as good as the K20A and K24A but still a reall good and versatile motor, and the single exhaust port makes the car sound pretty damn mean compared to the K24a2 bottom end and head
4 жыл бұрын
@@nikkumk2 But yes, stock you are limited with the z7 head, but it is fantastic for boost if you stay stock. Most people I know just do a head swap on the 9th gen for NA gains.. Kinda like how so many 8th gen and Type S owners do k24a2 bottom ends for torque gains. Its a different motor for sure, but it is still a really good motor and still a motor I'd take all day over the 1.5 L series in the 10th gen.. just saying.
@nikkumk2
@nikkumk2 4 жыл бұрын
@ boost is around the same price as a head swap and it can make much more power. The z7 blocks can handle a good amount of power stock. I would personally love a head swap myself but for the price turbo is the best option

The clutch in a manual car is a consumable component, it will need to be replaced eventually. The stock clutch will hold up for a good while on this beginner tune without any bolt on mods. @EdgeAutosport 4 жыл бұрын
@@vr6gls I'm only messing around but I'll keep the conversation going and give you a different perspective. A brand new GTI costs $28,595 base, a Civic Si coupe is $25,200. Talking about just power, for an extra $1000 on the Civic to bring it up to GTI power level, the value is definitely there. Obviously, the GTI is a more refined car, has more power potential once modded, and has the DSG option. But, that all costs money. The Civic also gets 35-40 mpg AVERAGE, a huge advantage for a daily. They're 2 totally different cars and I really like both of them. But to address the value statement, I think the value is there in the Civic. Plus, it weighs 2800 lbs and feels like it. Also, when you say, "only 0.5 liters bigger", that's 33% larger than the Civic's engine. That's substantial!

@@vr6gls im starting to think honda made the si to be amazing on the track not the drag strip. Thats why they didnt upgrade the hp/torque and its smokes the 9th/8th gens on the track. Even other cars in its class range like s2k. Im talking about stock too.

How much would a tune like this cost if i went somewhere ?
@EdgeAutosport
@EdgeAutosport 4 жыл бұрын
We currently charge $495 for something like this but I would actually expect more. We're a little bit on the low side at the moment until our dyno gets fully booked. We're only 1 year in and are getting busier and busier so at some point, we'll raise our prices if necessary. If you'd like to consider etuning, send us an email at tuning@edgeautosport.com and we can basically do this same thing remotely, or even tune your car on a different dyno in a single remote tuning session if you'd like.

@EdgeAutosport
@EdgeAutosport 4 жыл бұрын
Most people would rather not, but tons of people actually do. We tune them frequently. Many people get pump gas and ethanol blend maps during the tuning process for this reason. Most of the time you can just run pump gas out of convenience but when you want to have a track day or head out for the weekend to have some fun, you can throw in a tank of blended fuel a get a little more power. In the case of the Civic, you can run a flex fuel kit and then you have to worry about blending a lot less.

These 10th gens are such a disappointment.. Dont get me wrong, they are decent, fun daily cars, and of course, like with any boosted car, you can see decent gains from fuel and boost adjustments, but im just so disappointed in Honda going with the 1.5 Fit motor and also direct injection.. I was really hoping and thinking they would combine the best of both worlds into the 10th gen.. 2.4 block, with a port injected K20a2/z1 head and just engineer it to perfection , possible even with boost. For me, the economy loss wouldn't have stopped me from buying one. Instead, we get this Fit motor that they just grabbed off the shelf, strengthen the internals, slapped a small turbo on it, and called it a day. Id rather even have the new 2.0T from the Accord. Ive already seen half a dozen 10th gens blown up just in the low 300's.. And we all know that 1.5 Fit motor isnt handling 400+ on the stock block without it being ticking time bomb.. On the otherhand, the old K20's and K24's were proven and could handle so much stock, and you also had the versatility to go NA build or Boosted build and be good either way you went. You Have zero options to have a 1.5 NA build on the 10th gens which is also disappointing.

@@EdgeAutosport .. Indeed it does!.. And dont get me wrong, Im not hating on the 10th gen. I have driven a few of them and they are actually great cars. And for most people, it is more than adequate in terms of power and performance. But I think for enthusiasts and those looking to build for bigger power, the 10th gen was a let down. Just because the SI made its bones with awesome NA motors that you could build big power both NA and boosted and had motors that could just be beaten on so hard and rarely break NA.. The 10th gen starts to move away from all of that. But regardless, still a good car, its just a completely different car than the old gens.

@Sergio Aguirre .. I am not confused at all.. I think YOU are the only one confused, and very gullible it seems and biased. ANY motor can get lucky and hold some power, but you cant sit here and make some claims on 1 or 2 motors holding power. Shit, I have seen K20's hold 650whp for long periods of time stock too.. But for me, I have seen DOZENS of 10th gens blowup just pushing 300-350whp on a stock motor. And many others have a lot of problems. I for one, dont buy for a second these 10th gen 1.5 Fit motors can hold 400+ reliably on a stock Factory motor. Just because One or 2 cars you see on the internet make these claims does not make it realistic or reality.
4 жыл бұрын
@Sergio Aguirre .. I work at a performance shop that tunes Honda's.. I have seen 10th gens blowup with all different sized turbo's.. But turbo size is irrelevant. With the Direct injection, these heads do not breathe good. So trying to push that much power, air and fuel causes all types of problems when you start reach 400+whp on these motors. You are treading a super thin line and it is a ticking time bomb. Even fully built, sleeved, with stronger pistons and rods, the motor will struggle to make big numbers with the displacement and the head design with direct injection. This motor was not over engineered. Honda literally took the Honda Fit motor, and added stronger internals. This was a motor/block originally designed to make like 120whp. The k20 was built to be a great breathing motor NA and handle higher compression. This is why the Higher compression K20's and K24's are such incredible motors. They were over engineered to hold some serious NA power and breathe amazingly.

@Sergio Aguirre .. LMAO.. Back pressure has very little to do with these motors making power overall. lol.. Of course, having adequate back pressure to match up properly to the turbo for spool is ideal, but not necessary to make power and is has very little to do with a motor's internals simply not being able to hold up to the power. The tuners are fine. They cannot control a piston ring going, or the rods not holding, or a bearing spinning.. These motors are just simply not able to reliably hold big power consistently, and that is just a fact. Again, 1 motor making power means nothing. Thats all nice and dandy they took the time to make sure every little thing was PERFECT for their little 10th gen, but face reality bud, NO ONE is spending that kinda time and money and waiting around for a shop to get the 10th gen absolutely perfect.. And that is what it would take to get you a reliable 10th gen with 400+HP.. TONS of time and money and testing..Which isnt realistic.. When you buy a car, you want to buy the proper mods, and get a proper tune, not sit around for a few years while the shop does tons of testing on your car. In this instance, the tuner is completely limited by the Direct Injection system and the displacement. And unless you have super deep pockets to pay a tuner and shop to guide you on every single step to making a perfect build, 99.9% of people are not gonna have a perfect build. And every single motor is different, so what works on 1 may not work on another.
DEFINITELY NOT HAPPENING ON MY WATCH! 😒
