Few updates in Epic Gardening Universe: Jacques is launching his own YT channel covering low-cost, DIY garden projects, sustainability, and garden to kitchen recipes: bit.ly/39pv6ex Secondly, to the thousands of you waiting on Birdies beds, we are dealing with insane port delays (not seen in 30+ years) so we are backed up without the ability to control it. I'm estimating a mid October fulfillment, after which point we'll FINALLY be in stock on everything!

Seeing what you've managed to do this year, in only one year, has been massively impressive and inspirational. And honestly, it gives me hope. I just moved to an entirely new climate late this summer, and am feeling confident about my ability to start a proper vegetable garden this autumn thanks to everything I've learned from your channel (among others like James and Mark). And congratulations on the new loofah, you got such an epic yield off of that relatively small plant! I didn't realize how many those could grow in that small of a space.

What I did with watermelon one year was cut it up into about 1-2" squares and popped a gallon bag of them into the freezer. . You can always either pull some out to eat, or can bring them out to thaw and make a watermelon juice with them. . OR. . watermelon jam :) Good luck~ !

I decided to start a container garden in May. Then, we had nearly a month of huge rainstorms here in Houston. Add to that, wild animals and my garden was down from 18 plants to two. A tomato and a watermelon. I was seriously about to just give up, but your videos have inspired me to give it another try this fall. I spent yesterday planting and i feel so hopeful. Thank you for taking the time to educate and entertain.

Nice Luffa's. This year was my first year growing luffa's and I've been experimenting with the right harvest time. Overall though lots of fun. They like our hot summers and didn't mind my native alkaline soil which is a big plus. I planted it along with my Jamaica/Hibiscus which also likes the heat and so far is doing well also in the native soil. A fun experiment.

James is so fun to watch, so great to hear a shout-out to him. You two DEFINITELY need to do a vid together! Also, would ABSOLUTELY love to see the pepper eating vid! Oh, and LOVED the Garden Hermit entrance! 😁 As for the watermelon & peppers, isn't that what you got your freeze dryer for?! 😉😉 Freeze dried watermelon is AWESOME!! 😁 You can also blend it to make into fruit leather/roll-ups, grill it & drizzle it with Balsamic Vinegar, freeze it for ice cubes, etc. With the freeze dried peppers, you can add them to soups, grind then into a powder, make pepper chips, etc. While my garden didn't do as well as I wanted, I grew for the first time: garlic, strawberries, pumpkin, potatoes, green beans, zucchini, carrots, radishes, spinach, sweet potatoes (which I will harvest within the next week or 2), birdhouse gourds & LUFFAS!!! 😁 Still have some time before I can harvest them, but SOOO excited!! 😁 Also about time to plant garlic again for next spring. Can't WAIT! 😁 Keep up the great videos! You've truly been an inspiration. 🌱👍

I'm excited to see this video, because I love it when gardeners close the loop, showing the whole process. This was my first year with ginger, and I'm leaving mine to grow for a while. I'm always interested in how people preserve and store their bounty for long-term enjoyment. You were wise to plant so many flowers. They attract tons of pollinators and good-guy bugs that stamp out the bad guys! Native plants are also a wonderful addition to any garden to thrive with little care and provide food, shelter, and habitat for more good guys! Congratulations on this magnificent bounty!

You have guided me through my first year of gardening. You are right. The first year is rewarding and motivating. I hope to double my number of beds soon. I have to use raised beds as we are almost solid rock. We ate salad from the garden for four months. We had a small corn crop. We will do better next year. We ate sugar baby melons and okra was on the table for months. I'm ready to plant carrots, turnips and kale again. I did not think I could do this in the Texas Hill Country.

Thanks to your channel I was inspired to give gardening a try. I build my own raised 4'x4' raised bed with scrap wood. Its not the prettiest, but it does the job for a beginner. This summer I had more yellow squash and cucumbers than I thought possible (I am zone 8b). I have kale, brussel sprouts, and swiss chard for my fall to winter trial at gardening. I have enjoyed hunting and finding ripe vegetables and am now eyeing part of the yard for another bed to go in. I should note I have fine, white K9 sand that is impossible to grow anything in, so learning from your channel about how to grow in raised beds has been beyond helpful in my journey!

I really enjoyed your enthusiasm after pulling out the ginger. And I agree, it'll be great in the kitchen!

Your raised beds are awesome. It's nice to see something taller so you don't have to bend over too much. Those luffas look amazing!!

Even though I have seen it at least a dozen times, it still cracks me up to see you pop up from behind the Birdies bed. Incredible harvest-I particularly liked the ginger harvest.

Love your channel- SOO interesting. I started my little indoor herb garden 3 and a half months ago- (an Aerogarden) now I have 7 kinds of Basil, Chives, Dill, Mint, Cilantro, Oregano, Nasturtium, Thyme and Parsley (mostly in pots). All are doing well except the Cilantro- but I'll figure it out. The fresh herbs make my cooking so much better (LOVE to cook). Thank you for the inspiration and the knowledge- keep up the good work!!

I am obsessed with yours and James channel at the moment. I am a brand new beginner in the garden world, and am in the planning stage. This winter will be me preparing for planting in the spring and to start my journey off, I am going to attempt micro greens.

Love your show, so many great gardening tips. You have inspired me to change out my garden to tall raised beds from ones that are made from 2x8s. I came across a scientific study that baking soda was the best for cleaning produce. It cleans off grime; kills any bugs, mold or mildew; and is the best at removing chemicals that may have gotten on it. I use about 1/4 to 1/2 cup in a large bowl, bucket or tub of water and soak for about 25 minutes; drain; then rinse in clear water and drip dry. This process makes produce last longer as well.

I started ginger this year because of your video. It's just getting going and I can hardly wait to see how much it yields next year!

Watermelon agua fresca!!! SO delicious and refreshing! Just cut the watermelon in chunks and blend it with water and sugar, sieve, and serve chilled. The amount of water and sugar is variable based on your preference and the flavor/sweetness of the watermelon. It also tastes amazing when mixed about 50/50 with pineapple agua fresca 🤤
