I made a level 3 by hand because I don’t know how to world edit. It took 6 hours. That wasn’t a joke. I am not going to do a level 4.

With the Tall Worlds mod (expanding the height limit to 16,777,216 blocks instead of 256) you would be able to make a level 15 sponge. Even if you count the fact that it allows for negative Y-levels (up to -16,777,216) 43,046,721 blocks beats the 30,000,000 block limit, so you're still stuck at 15. If you did make a mod that raises the block limit, and use it with Tall Worlds, and Tall Worlds gets updated to make the height limit even higher, you would need: 43,046,721 blocks in each direction for a Level 16 sponge 129,140,163 blocks in each direction for a Level 17 sponge

You know, I just realized... I you go through any hole in a straight line, you'll *never* touch anything. You'll go right on through the whole thing. You can even change directions (in 90 deg. increments), going from one hole to another; but as long as you strictly go in a straight lines *through holes*, and you start off going through a hole, you'll never touch any of it. ...So, if you fall through any of the open holes, no matter which one, you'll always fall all the way to the ground...

Now just 20 more and bam level 6 👿

No, they're right. Slight corrections: 1. The overall set of menger sponges does, indeed, have infinite surface area. Any single level of sponge has a finite surface area, and the info given is for only sponge level 5. 2. The blocks have volume, and therefore so does the sponge overall. The Wikipedia page specifies that it *encloses* zero volume, meaning, there is no "trapped" space within it. For example, a 3x3x3 box would have 1 block enclosed, 26 volume. Remember to take words in context!

This is pretty simple, it just looks complex. He stsrted with a little 3x3 hollow cube, and used that cube to make bigger 3x3 cubes and just went bigger and bigger. And with world edit and being really proficent and familiar with it, you could make this really fast just by copy and pasting. Its called a fractal image, its how calydiscopes work. I wanted to find a fractal zoom in minecraft but it doesnt seem to exist. However i believe it could if you combine somtthing like this with euclidian minecraft and make somthing extremly interesting. I dont have it in me to care enough to create it tho.

lol i was reading the detail signs and was relieved to see you didn't waste time building it by hand like a super showoff, only to have people not believe you. i could imagine making it somewhat quickly with an editor like MCEdit. make a small one, copypasteX19, repeat until satisfied or limited by your computer's memory or some other factor (world height for instance)

Technically that's not a Menger Sponge. It has to have infinite surface area to be a true fractal.

In the description it says "Total gold on real Earth = about 8,000 m^2" and "Gold in Menger Sponge = 3,200,000 m^2" I never knew you could measure gold in square meter which is a 2D measurement.

A Menger Sponge would be a cool design for a sci-fi base. Use the empty spaces as corridors and rooms, and fill in the smaller gaps with broom closets and other mod-related things. direwolf20 would like a Menger Sponge base, with all of the 9x9 rooms. I kind of want to build a base like that, now, but it's a lot of space to fill.

Ever though about using Mathematica to render 3d fractals? I think it might be perfect since it has inbuilt ability to handle non-real numbers and has support for CUDA.Not sure if it'll do ray marching or not though.
