As a dog groomer, I highly recommend getting a rubber curry brush. I like the Kong Zoom Groom but really any brand will do. They are the best brush for de-shedding short coated dogs and they won't cause brush burn. I would also advise you to use the furminator brush sparingly as it tends to break the top coat, so don't use it in the same spot for too long, and try to only use the brush if you feel that his coat is really impacted with dead fur. For baths I would recommend bathing him about every 8-12 weeks, depending on how dirty he is getting. Bathing him more often than that is fine as long as you are using a really gentle shampoo and always use a conditioner. The Burt's Bees brand is pretty good but the CHI oatmeal shampoo is my favorite because it smells good and is super moisturizing.

A harness is the opposite it makes them pull so getting a Martingale collar and teaching to walk beside you at a heel is much better if you know what your doing tools like choke collars and prong collars and martingale collars can be a good thing I only use a harness if I’m not actually training I always try to use a Martingale collar because it’s better then a regular collar look up some training videos

I am getting a poodle pup for service training later and I am so excited! Something I've found handy is if you're in a place where you can't order everything at once or don't have a huge budget(service dogs are super costly so I'm trying to save as much as possible) but want to get everything for your new best friend, goodwills were my best friend over time, I got so many toys, feeding bowls, leashes, collars, baby gates, etc just from going around to thrift stores. Max I've spent so far is around $100. On top of that, I have a Facebook community and and asked for help! I've gotten a small cage, a bunch of high quality toys, beds, and other things!! People have bought stuff off my Amazon list to help me, so heck yes.

My chocolate lab passed away on Sunday, she was only 6 and it was SO sudden. The morning we found out she was sick was the day we had to put her down. Hug your dog(s). They could be done tomorrow.

I have a yellow lab and highly recommend getting an ear cleaner solution (they’re prone to infections) and a head collar. A harness prevents choking, but doesn’t prevent pulling. I have the Gentle Leader and Halti head collar. It reduced so much pulling from my 110lb Lab. Now he just walks in front of me (still working on that). Also, try not to go to dog parks. Your Lab will pick up bad habits (or possibly be attacked) because so many untrained dogs are taken. I go to a tiny park that’s usually empty or one has one dog at most.

I have gentle leaders that 2 of my dogs use. They work wonders for reactive dogs, and for dogs that pull. It also helps teach heal

@@Nykayla Everyone has their opinions, but if your dog isn't pulling to the point you can't manage them, head halters aren't great. Similarly to front clip harnesses, they can disrupt the dogs natural gait, causing health issues in the future. As well, if your dog were to lunge, it'll whip their head back and hurt their neck. Additionally, the pressure points on the face ar very sensitive! Personally, I'd go with a harness or martingale collar. Use treats to teach leash pressure! This helps them learn how to respect the leash.

i recomend if you end up switching foods to switch to taste of the wild because they have no Bha , Amazing ingredients , and its very healthy.Also i recomend that when you buy any food or treats make sure in the ingredients it has no bha because that causes cancer for dogs :) i hope this helps!

I have 3 dogs and I would like to mention some things. When it comes to bathing, some dogs have sensitive skin and for that I would recommend a oatmeal and unscented shampoo and conditioner because sometimes scents and certain shampoos can be irritating. Also, many dogs can be sensitive to beef related treats for instance, two of my dogs can’t have any beef because they will throw up and have really bad digestive issues. What I did before my dog was fully potty trained, I got scrap pieces of linoleum to cover the carpet in the area I allowed him to play in. Also crate training is essential for potty training.

Absolutely! Rosko is now 6 months and crate trained, he still has the occasional accident but for the most part he’s fully potty trained! Highly recommend crate training :)

Crates are the best not just for the safety of our homes and possessions but for the safety of our pets, I always tell my clients that it only takes 1 time for your dog to get into something, and it could cost you everything. I’ve heard stories of dogs ingesting things that they are not supposed to and they had to have surgery or some even passed. My friend had a dog that never got into anything so she left her out while gone, but 1 time she got in the trash and got her head stuck in a chip bag and she suffocated.

This might not be seen but if you put the food in the food bin put it in a sealable bag first and then in there because it will go stale and your dog might not eat it we had to go to the vet with our dog because she stopped eating and we took our food to the vet and she told us My sister is obsessed with dinosaurs and it’s a triceratops 😂just so you know

also just a side note; my weim is a big chested dog, and would highly recommend a slow feeder bowl for when your pup is smol- especially bc labs are food guzzlers lol 😊 so excited for u!!

Hey! Just a heads up. Try not to get the lifted dog bowls on like a stand. I know they look cute and aesthetically pleasing but they increase risk of GDV. I don’t know what kind of dog you’re getting but bigger, barrel/deep chested dogs are prone to it. It’s caused by quickly eating, eating big meals at a time, or exercising before/after meals. My moms dog, a Great Dane, passed away last month of GDV (bloat) and since then, out of fear for my own dog, I’ve done a ton of research on it. It’s most common in dogs such as: Great Danes, German shepherds, Golden retrievers, Saint Bernards, Weimaraners, Irish Setters, Gordon Setters, Standard Poodles, Basset Hounds, Doberman Pinschers, and Old English Sheepdogs. If you have or are getting any of those dogs or as described, I’d recommend doing research on how to prevent it! *It can KILL your dog in as little as an hour* Barely any signs of it. Please just be aware!!

Hi Nykayla! I am in North Carolina as well in the Carolina Beach area. We go to Eden NC at the end of the month to get our shetland sheepdog pup. Thank you for sharing this haul. I wish I had gotten calming spray when I got my puppy cause at night she would get so whiny that one week I only got six hours of sleep for the whole week! I ended up having to put her in another room where I couldn't hear her until she learned not to whine at night.

The calming spray didn’t help us at all. The thing that did was putting his crate in our room so he didn’t get scared at night. After about 2 weeks we were able to move his crate into “his room” and he was fine. I know you already went through it but in case anyone else reads these comments :)

Im getting my puppy in june its going to be either a aussie shepard or a eskimo dog my family and I havent totally decided but we know we are getting a puppy so I have been watching every dog haul video out there to help us pick up little bits and gadegts that we don't already have, but yours seemed to almost have everything. I Still need help finding good worthy brands though

The only thing I pay attention to in respect to brands is his food/treats. We feed him purina pro plan and give him treats that have the least ingredients possible :) thanks for commenting 🤍

a little late but when bringing home a puppy they should be kept on a leash 24/7 until there fully potty trained, it’s best to teach a place command which will help as well!!

Absolutely! He’s still be crate trained but I don’t know if 24/7 is reasonable. Maybe when taking the pup outside they should be on a leash until you can trust them not to run off. Our dog roamed around the house while we were there to watch him. Place command was super fun to teach him! 🤍🤍

Lol do u now know that the lick matt doesnt last that long and is probably a hazard leaving it with ur dog if u have to be away for awhile

I wouldn’t leave my dog long enough for something like that to become hazardous. My intentions for the lick mat were simply to distract my pup while I was doing something with him, like bath time or nail trims etc. Hope that helps! 🥰
