HUGE Range Cull for Age of Sigmar - What does this mean for New and Existing factions?

There are 82 units leaving the Age of Sigmar range, including Two FULL factions! So what does this mean for Age of Sigmar and its existing factions going forward?
I was all set to do a video about Chaos Dwarfs coming to AoS, then Games Workshop decided it was time to announce that, amongst many other units, the entire Sacrosanct chamber of Stormcast were off to the Azyr Retirement home!
Today we are taking a quick look at all the units going away, and also speculating on what it might mean for existing, and maybe even some new factions for Age of Sigmar as we move to 4th Edition this summer.

The Warcry factions being scrapped is a real crying shame. I've never really been into AoS, but those were some excellent, rather new sculpts that laid the foundation that would come for Kill Team, which I am a huge fan of. It's worrying to see new sculpts of that quality going entirely this quickly.

Absolutely agree, some of those warbands heading out the door are incredible, and it’s a huge shame

As far as new faction go, aside from Chorfs, I definitely think Shadow Elves are gonna show up at some point in either 4th or 5th edition. I also think we might see the Kurnothi be added as a Sylvaneth expansion. Aside from completely new stuff, I also think Iron Jawz and Kruleboyz are gonna be separated into their own factions.

I second the Shadow Elves comment, Malekith has been lurking in Ulgu for nearly a decade now, time to see what he's been up to! Beyond that I think a new destruction faction would be cool, maybe some kind of human faction that follow Gorkamorka or Fimir.

Agreed on both counts! You’ve mentioned Destruction before and I agree there’s needs to something, especially now there’s stuff headed out the door.

I'm holding out hope that they do with the Stormcast what's already being done with Marines: instead of one massive collection, break it down into "chapters," and just have each chamber be its own subfaction.

That’s an interesting theory, and they could definitely start with the Ruination chamber. I like that idea.

I am keeping my eyes on this... im a 40k Kill Team player, and seeing the warcry range get stomped is worrying.

Yeah I can understand that, although a lot of 40K kill teams can fold quite easily into their faction armies, well most of them anyway

It’s confirmed Chorfs caused all the models/armies to be axed from Sigmar, they’re coming! 😂

Like who even cares, how does a change in the number of wardollies really affect you or anyone else. If anything the streamlining is good because it makes it more welcoming to more people who were scared by so many options. Nothing is stopping you from playing with last edition rules or miniatures, this just helps add a newcomer friendly streamlined version of the game on top of the existing overly crowded game. I think people really underestimate how hard it is learing all the units stat lines and abilities so you can play with confidance without worrying about making bad decisions. This is a huge win for bring more people into the hobby, which is what we really need if we want AoS to survive. Like why do you care so much its not like anyone is coming into your home and taking your wardollies away. Like come on its just a game, people still play 3rd ed 40k, why care about is so much. To make a video game analogy, every few expansion packs you need a fresh sequel to wipe the slate clean and reduce the ever growing complexity to help bring in new players and keep the game alive. No one if forcing you to uninstall. GW is just providing a fresh v2 of the game to help keep the hobby alive, it's a good thing and frankly you should be celebrating it. At the end of the day nothing has really changed.

Theres been big changes before yes, but there’s a lot of stuff going this time that’s only had a very short shelf life, some of the Stormcast for example, and some of the Warcry warbands which are stunning sculpts and still fairly new, so I’d say it’s not just a case of ‘out with the old’ for at least some of it.
