When you travel to remote areas with your truck, make sure you have cell service and if not make sure someone else always knows where you are going in the event you break down and don't have the ability to call for a tow. You could always carry a motorcycle in the bed of the truck so you have a way to get back to civilization if need be. Maybe you will luck out and have one of the engines that doesn't have the problem. Good informative video. 👍

Change the oil every 5k miles or sooner. It's a turbo, so you cannot be lazy on the maintenance. The dealerships don't care what happens after the warranty period. Oil changes are cheap, swapping that motor isn't.

There's no difference in the 2024 engines. Or at least nobody is able to say that there's any specific change. Toyota's problem is that if they recall the 2024s they have to stop selling them too. I am not clear on whether replacing the engine before delivery would turn them into used vehicles, basically it depends whether that's counted as a repair. The cost to replace this engine in the US is currently reported as somewhere between $30-35k US. That's $3 billion. Even without other uses of the engine. Toyota will shuffle numbers to make it cost less, they'll drop the parts cost of the engine. In the EU Nissan had to replace every intercooler on a particular diesel, the part cost went down to under 20% of the pre-recall cost. They will fix this. And the techs will get great at doing the swap.

@TheGettyAdventures channel did a good overview on these engine recalls and what Toyotas remedy might be. He indicated that Toyota will do a short block replacement (block ,crankshaft, pistons/rods) but doesn't include the valvetrain (camshaft, lifters) since its an overhead cam engine. If this debris is found to cause bearing failure in the bottom end, then it has also caused damage everywhere also and they should do a long block replacement at minimum. Hopefully your 2024 trucks won't be affected and/or it was isolated to a particular engine plant only. It will be interesting to see what you find inside the oil filters when you do the first oil changes, such as sand from the casting process or any metal particles. Fingers crossed for ya Tyson! I first subbed to your channel when I was truck shopping back in 2020 and your review of your then 2020 white F350 helped me decide on getting my 21 F350 Platinum diesel. Still love my truck and appreciate your content brother!

The best insurance against the issues these engines are having is more frequent oil changes, and doing oil sample testing so you have records of how the engine is wearing, and if there is any issues with debris in the motor. Toyota and other OE’s don’t care if your engine fails outside of warranty, which is when your engine wear from lack of more frequent oil changes will take place. I would never go more than 5k on oil changes. As someone said in the comments, oil changes are cheap, engines are not….especially not this one. In my 2024 i have changed the oil 3 times and there’s only 2500 miles on it. The tuner is also a bad idea, just my 2 cents. If the engine fails and the dealer puts a scanner on it, they will deny you warranty.…lifting the truck is not a big deal, the tuner could easily end up haunting you if there is any warranty needed if there’s a failure. I hope your trucks last a long time and you have no issues, but you’re playing with fire here, and these trucks are some expensive toys. The Car Care Nut and others have stated this engine is one of the most complicated Toyota has produced, modifying them is a fools game

Not gonna lie though, I've always loved my American Made truck and I'm a die-hard Ford Guy. I also like Chevy/GMC and RAM, I do like the Japanese trucks that Toyota and Nissan make and I'm definitely not happy that Toyota had to get rid of there 5.7 V8 engine. The fact that the EPA is doing that is absolutely ridiculous and trying to force us buying hybrids or ev trucks which is absolutely insane. We should be able to have the freedom to pick. what engine we can have in our trucks like for me I want the Coyote V8 in my F150 not the 3.5 Ecoboost. I'm glad Ford is still offering the 5.0 Coyote V8 and GMC/Chevy have two V8 options (5.3 V8 and 6.2 V8). As an American I despite the US government and the EPA. There's my rant

If the engine does fail and Toyota either can't or won't fix it in a timely manner, you can always go to just a regular mechanic and ask them to put a Dodge engine and transmission. There's a spreadsheet to accumulate data on these failures on the Tundra forum. I've seen it. There are both hybrid and nonhybrid vehicles on it. Also, there's more talk about his being a design flaw rather than a machining debris issue. The one engine I saw disassembled showed the rod cap right next to the failed main bearing. It was seriously discolored. The main bearing must've been bright cherry red to do that. Not every engine will fail, probably. But, a higher than desired percentage just might ... they already are. If this is a design problem, Toyota will go kicking and screaming before they'll admit to it. Heck, right now they're calling this a "safety recall." Yeah, right.

They should have kept the 5.7 V8 and maybe refined it and added the 10 speed as an option like Ford offers in the F-150 5.0 Coyote. This shit happens y’all need to stop freaking out because they went from a v8 to a turbo motor. This issue is quality control because when it was developed we were in Covid times. But the big difference is you won’t get a repair bill from Toyota and it will still be a better truck and better investment than the big 3.
