Blackpool has always had brilliant nightclubs, the syndicate and the palace were world class in my opinion.

I remember going to Jokers once in 1991, whilst on holiday in Blackpool. Watching this video has brought back memories. Thanks for sharing.

Mid-winter on a late Monday night, Raffles was full of cabbies on their way home! A good club, great atmosphere. Also was the South Shore Residents' club, upstairs somewhere along there.

Yes I remember jokers from 91/92. Two others I can recall are Shaboo Club and one called Sequins? from the same time.

That Pepes takeaway at the end was also a Bank in the 90’s. A bit further along towards the prom on the same side above what is now the Post Office / Convenience Shop was a place called North National that sold bankrupt stock. I think it’s now a Gym, you used to go upstairs to it. They had all sorts from VHS tapes, CD players and all kinds of stuff, mainly stuff being sold in bulk. The Royal Oak junction was definitely a Traffic Light controlled crossroads until they made Waterloo Rd towards the prom one way then they put the Roundabout in.

I used to go in there when it was Raffles wayyyy back in the day lol xx

Hi Stephen, you going along Waterloo Road reminded me of the Platform 5 Model Railway Exhibition at South Station in the Late 70’s and early 80’s. Also the Waterloo pub where they used to have the World Crown Green Bowling championships. Might worth a video on these two locations as they are now. 😊

Where William Hill is now on the corner of Waterloo Road and Lytham Road stood the original Dog and Partridge pub When the present building of the bookies was being built a tiny corner of the pub remained open I think to retain the licence.When the pub was relocated a few doors away to the north on Lytham Road the tiny triangular pub was demolished I remember going in it. It had temporary lighting above the bar which was at the back. Hence the cut off corner of the bookies

Didn't"t the job centre used to be down there, can also remember Lido Baths, Toys R Us, used to live on Kirby Road at Fourways Hotel, then Barclay Avenue.

I remember jokers the bouncer was about5 Foot 2 immaculately dressed, proper gentleman, dwarfed by 2 silverbacks (gorilla), had some great times there always welcome especially us Geordies

I don’t remember jokers but we used to go to “Slack Alice’s” , think it was behind the Viking or similar. My hubster used to live at Spen. Corner (first house next to nail shop 312). He lived there before there were NO traffic lights at spen corner (6 roads!)when he was primary school age and used to stand in upstairs window watching lots of near misses and crashes😱xx

Lack of Financial Support and Sponsorship to keep these Wonderful places open for people to meet and have a Good time with each other. It really so sad to see these places closed and shut up now. I am sure I have been there in the 90s on a mad one. Was it the same nightclub where you paid a pound to get in and the women behind the bar were in back to front swimming costumes and watered down beer, my memory is a bit hazy.

I remember The Syndicate Nightclub, I used to watch The Hitman And Her Friday nights with Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachen. They would broadcast live from the club most weekends. Who remembers Clive the resident dancer?

I never went to to that night club but I have great memories of the tower lounge on a Saturday afternoon then the palace night club at night

The Palace nightclub was Amazing, went there a few times in the 1980’s if I remember correctly it was number nightclub in the UK then

All the banks where I live are closed. There is now a Banking Hub, where the Post Office run a desk for cash transactions and each day a different bank has a representative available.

Mid 90s I used to hang about with a lad who uncle either owned it or was the manager. Never paid to get in and I'm sure we used to go to a chippy around the corner where you could late night/early morning drink. kettle of fish rings a bell

Can you remember Stanley Matthews sports shop on Waterloo Road? Bought a couple of football tops out of it in the 70's.

Yes remember it well Mr C used to like the two in door shopping malls down there as well always used Waterloo road great chippy off Waterloo road just before you get down to the front awesome fish n chips was run by a Birmingham couple used it for years till they retired recall a record shop just off Waterloo road back in the day great stuff Stephen so much has changed and always for the better top video sir .

Something very sad about closed down popular nightspots. I live in Rawtenstall in Rossendale and most of the popular pubs and nightclubs have all shut down now.

Friend of the family’s owned it when it was called Raffles, which had a striptease act on at one time.Went in when it was called Jokers years later and a massive fight broke out! (I was not involved) a right rum shop it was!

I remember the one with the white Luton van outside on Lytham Road was a comic shop and an off duty cab driver got drunk one night and was over the limit when he was driving his cam along Lytham Road and ended up smashing into that shop and the poor guy who ran it couldn't operate it for awhile due to structural concerns.

I went into that club in the summer of 1983 - there was a stripper on - who had very big hands. Had a few pints in the Bill then into the club. I was 15😀

Only went there once. Saw the Glitter Band there. This was obviously before Gary Glitter's criminality was revealed. It became the end for the band as the brand name was tarnished forever. They were very accomplished. I recall them doing the hits, Including their own. Plus covers of all the 70s bands like the Sweet and Mud etc. Even Alice Cooper! It was a good night and it was definitely downstairs in a basement. It often gets confused with Trader Jacks which was in the Imperial Hotel for some reason.

I remember there was a Tiffanys night club and a Adam and Eve?? never went in them as i was too young at the time they were open

I was in a hospital bed next to the owner of jokers at the Vic hospital. Had a right old laugh with him and after making freinds he allowed me to get in the club for free whenever I went. Casting my mind back further I am sure it was a strip club back in the early 80,s or had strippers on at least. No idea what it was called but my cousin dragged me in even though we were only 16-17
