This is a fantastic production with awesome singing, emotions,scenery,war clips, transformation of Hugh Jackman to a loving person. Hugh Jackman should get the academy award for best actor. I have seen this movie 3 times so far and will see it again and again. You could hear a pin drop in theatre each time I went and even some spontanious clapping from viewers. Wow what an awesome movie!

I have wanted this movie to be made for so long. I couldn't believe when I heard Hugh Jackman would be Jean Valjean. He was the only person I could imagine doing it, and they got him! It looks amazing. The soundtrack will be released before the movie, probably. I'm looking forward to some good cries before I ever sit down in the theater. Come on, December!!!

In the movie (as in the book) it's Gavroche that drops off Marius' letter that's intercepted by Valjean. They gave that task to Eponine in the stage version to enhance her part.

They aren't making a film about the book. They are filming the musical and in the musical, this is the last song. It's like a reprise of the earlier "Do you here the people sing" and the lyrics are slightly different. Every character is singing in this song. Everyone, dead or alive. It represents that Jean Valjean is dying - halfway to paradise and half on earth. Fantine has a few lines, together with Eponine, to "guide" Jean Valjean to heaven... it's just the way it is in the musical.

I saw the movie today, luckily big songs such as I dreamed a dream or DYHTPS weren't change (although DYHTPS was sung by everyone, and i was a bit frustrated that Enjolras wasn't given his solo in it) On My Own, and One More Day, those were really fine. Smaller songs such as Fantine's Death, ABC/red and black, Look Down, and much more were either shortened or the lyrics changed, which made me a little mad at first. But then I realized how amazing it was altogether, even with all the changes. :)

And apparently, unlike other recent movie musicals, the players actually sing (not lipsynch) on every take. That takes some chops, especially when you're outside in the cold all day long in nothing but a negligee.

I looked up the young actor who plays Enjolras. He's a favorite of mine, because "Do You Hear The People Sing?" just puts me in a puddle. He's a wonderful young actor that's done several Broadway musicals. I look forward to him. I'm sure the 'dying on the barricades' scene won't be so clean in a movie. I told my best friend I better go alone a few times before she tries to be seen with me! Shops in NYC sell shirts with 24601 on them. I may have to have one.

With such a well-known story, spoilers, for those who aren't familiar with the book/musical, are to be expected when it comes to the movie. That was hardly spoiling the movie anyway, trust me.

So true! Though as I age it seems I can't think of anything,anytime! I was somewhat dubious about Phantom of the Opera being recreated on 'celluloid' as I am about Les Mis' being given the same treatment.I am curious as to how much of this will be computer generated.But we have two months to reflect on 'what ifs' etc.I saw it 3 times on the West End in London & was mesmerised each time.So yes I too look forward to seeing this version.

I love that they are doing the ghost part of Les Miserables. Most people comment it is not like the book , well the book itself it quite the story with a lot of detail, and the movie is the musical. I love that my favorite song has this scene, the epilogue, I only wonder if eponine will show up as well, since she is suppose to sing with them as well.
@TheSeekerBabe

She actually did cross paths with him twice.... once when Valjean arrived at the Thenardiers' to claim Cosette, and again when she was dropping off a letter to Cosette from Marius. I think it adds to the idea of 'heaven' that Fantine and Eponine would realize they are part of the same family now.
@TheSeekerBabe
@TheSeekerBabe 11 жыл бұрын
Eponine was in love with Marius, who was in love with Cosette, and Eponine was subsequently protective of Cosette and ValJean when the Thenardier gang tried to break in. Fantine probably saw all of this from Heaven and embraced Eponine as part of her 'family'. I think that is why the two of them show up together when JVJ is dying. It fits in perfectly with the humanitarian theme of the musical that they would be shown as one 'family'...sappy, perhaps, but that's why so many fans love it.

It is the finale - hence "Lost in the valley of the night" line. Though Eponine would usually be on Valjean's other side, least in the stage version. But let's wait and see.

This isn't the first act. The lyrics in the first act are "Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men? It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!" sung by the rebels. The lyrics here are from the finale, "Do you hear the people sing, lost in the valley of the night? It is the music of a people who are rising to the light!" sung by the souls of the dead in Heaven.
