I about started crying when Hugh was talking at the end about what he realized he needed to do with his own children… all men should stop trying to be so hard and stoic and be open and communicative with their children. The biggest breakthrough for myself with my own children after my divorce was breaking down with my five-year old daughter and crying, telling her I don’t know what I’m doing. And she simply said, “It’s okay dad, I love you.”

Wow, this is definitely a powerful movie. I went thru this exact situation with my son when he was 17. It teaches you that your child isn't a wall. They need attention, communication, acknowledge is so many ways. My son struggled with mental health and suicide for years, it never prepares you for these situation. It teaches you to be aware of whats going on with your children more and be ready for when a ny situation calls for your attention. Now because of this, I am such a strong person.

My dad left my mom and her three beautiful boys for her "best friend." We all went through a depressed and hellish childhood as a result. All three of us had drug and alcohol problems as adults, which I long ago overcame. My younger brother committed suicide at 24. My dad died about ten years ago. My older brother went to see him in the hospital before he died, but I just couldn't do it. Especially with his lowlife hag being there. She FINALLY died a couple of years ago at age 96. Man, that old witch hung on for a long time. LOL I think if my parents had split up and then my dad met this woman, I wouldn't have had the same kind of animosity toward her. But how can you ever have good feelings about someone who is willing to harm her best friend and her three young children so deeply for her own selfish needs? And to top it off, she doesn't think she did anything wrong. Pure sociopath. My dad said it was his one chance at happiness. Well, your kids paid a terrible price for your happiness. Hope it was worth it.

@@agoujon it can get better with time or worse, it really depends on what kind of mental health issues shes experiencing. I recommend getting professional help while she is still under 18 while you still have guardianship as it becomes very difficult once past 18 unless the person is willing to accept help.

Ah shit, I'm gonna have to watch this film. My sister and I both have severe mental health problems and our parents haven't always been the best at dealing with it but we're also at fault. Maybe this will give me some more perspective into what it's like for them.
@daniellamcgee4251
@daniellamcgee4251 Жыл бұрын
I don't think blaming yourself for managing your mental health the best way you knew how, at the time, is fair. Having increasing awareness of your parents' perspective, and better strategies to deal with your mental health, for their sake, and yours, is all about listening to yourself and others (it's your prerogative to reject what doesn't fit) understanding to the best of your ability at the time, responsibility for the things you can take responsibility for, willingness to think differently, and do some things differently, and Compassion. There is no use, or relevance for blame. Rage, and fear, and other powerful experiences, expressed safely, is the stinging cleaning out of the wound. Understanding and compassion for yourself, and others, is the healing gel. We all do the best we know how, with the cards we are dealt. Blaming yourself is unreasonable, unhelpful and redundant. Taking esponsibility for how we manage things is where it's at, and a foundational aspect of emotional maturity. We get better at managing life's challenges with increasing awareness, understanding and compassion. My life is certainly no easier, but I haven't been in a psych. ward for over half my life, now. It's how you deal with cards that counts, and determines your quality of life. Truth, understanding and compassion have been the stars I have tried my best to navigate my ship by. It works for me, and many I know. The water doesn't get less choppy, but I am better skilled now, and can appreciate a smoother experience, and am extremely glad I managed to stay aboard my life (although I fell out a few times!). One nore thing: for me the key word that unlocks a better future is not 'hope', but 'possibility'. Where there is possibility, you know things can be different for a better quality of life. And our quality of life is dependent on what we make of what we have got. Very much including relationships. Maybe you have a powerful word that is a key that unlocks the future for you, too. Helping my child/ adolescent find their word made a difference. You will find more of what works for you.

Its suprising he never get what he deserve from critcs..and award season. I wish he get at least nommnation in ( oscar ).. And i wish he get the ( oscccar 👑) in the end.. he do father feeling in deep way. I shocked ( austin butler ) and ( tom crous) get nommanion..for what they act.. and hugh dont get his right. Oscar must give jackman preference. ( hugh jackman .. in the son.. he is the best actor in the year. And ( daniell deadwyler ) in the( till ) the best acctress in the year. And ( brendan fraser ) share them.. he the best in his role ( the weal ). ( cate blanchet and austin buttler .. dont deserve it ).

I hope you learn the skills of connecting with others, that you obviously missed out on learning as a child because your parents didn't know better. It's certainly more difficult to learn these fundamentals of life as an adult. It's definitely not too late to learn! That's the power of being an adult. You can change the patterns of the past, discover what is meaningful to you, and lead a different, far better quality life. 🤟

@@markdowse3572 That's a heck of an achievement!!! Kudos, and huge respect to you! Some people won't ever understand what extraordinary strength, and resilience, it takes just to be alive. My dad suicided when I was 9. His parents, and half sister, and an aunt of my mother's did also, before I was born, so it became normalized for me. I was a bit fixated on that for many years. Survival is huge, and worth it! Personally, I wanted to move on to the next level, and work on quality of life, not just existence. That's about making the most of the life we have. As an adult, I get to choose what to make of the cards I have been dealt. We can't change the past, but we can change what we do with this moment now, and the future. Just because your Dad had issues and left, that is no reflection on how lovable and worthy of care you always were. Your father's actions were a reflection of his deficiencies, not yours. Just because we had less, doesn't mean we deserved less. You can welcome, and claim, the good, nurturing, rewarding stuff in life as your birthright, too. We are not subhuman, after all. No matter what we felt as kids. We are just as much part of the human race as anyone else, with the same human rights. Some of us have to put extra work into realising that, and allowing the good stuff in. 💗
