Huis Doorn. De buitenplaats waar Keizer Wilhelm II na zijn vlucht naar Nederland in 1918 vanaf 1920 tot aan zijn dood in 1941 heeft gewoond. In deze film een impressie van de vertrekken, die nog ongeveer hetzelfde zijn gebleven vanaf die tijd. Het geeft maar een beperkt beeld. De rondleiding en het verhaal dat de gids er bij vertelt geeft een veel beter en completer beeld en is echt een aanrader. Het huis staat vol met beelden, schilderijen, antieke meubels en kasten en veel andere snuisterijen en kostbaarheden. Je zou kunnen zeggen een allegaartje, maar overal steekt een verhaal achter. Verder op het landgoed de andere gebouwen, zoals de Oranjerie, waar nu een restaurant is gevestigd (natuurlijk dicht op dinsdag) en het paviljoen met het verhaal over de 1e wereldoorlog (de aanleiding voor de vlucht en het aftreden van Wilhelm II) en de rol van Nederland daarin. En natuurlijk de tuinen, waar we deze dag onvoldoende tijd voor hadden en een deel vanwege gevaar van vallende takken was afgesloten. Niettemin een aardig uitje voor een wat sombere winterdag.

House Doorn. The country estate where Emperor Wilhelm II lived from 1920 until his death in 1941 after his flight to the Netherlands in 1918. This film provides an impression of the rooms, which have remained approximately the same since then. It only gives a limited picture. The tour and the story that the guide tells gives a much better and more complete picture and is highly recommended. The house is full of statues, paintings, antique furniture and cabinets and many other trinkets and valuables. You could say a mixed bag, but there is a story behind everything. Further on the estate are the other buildings, such as the Orangery, where a restaurant is now located (of course closed on Tuesdays) and the pavilion with the story about the First World War (the reason for the flight and abdication of Wilhelm II) and the role of the Netherlands in it. And of course the gardens, for which we did not have enough time this day and part of which was closed due to the danger of falling branches. Nevertheless, a nice outing for a somewhat gloomy winter day.
