Exploring the belief that by embracing the true symbiotic nature of the relationship between canines and humans, can we reach our full healing potential.
Anthony graduated from Baker University in 2000 and has completed the Triple Crown Academy for Professional Dog Trainers distance education course. Anthony has owned a business in Lawrence, KS since 2004 and is the founder of two non-profits that focus on the human canine bond in community outreach and in healing. Through his non profits, he regularly volunteers his time in areas relating to the human-canine bond including humane and safety education for local grade schools and at the Lawrence Police Summer Camp, returning to Baker to speak on human/animal ethics, volunteering every week with his therapy dogs at the Topeka VA Hospital in the PTSD, Acute Psych Recovery, and Substance Abuse wings, and as an embedded consultant with the Kansas City Missouri Police 1910 and 1920 SWAT teams in a new collaborative program to reduce dog shootings in high risk situations.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Wow! I feel as though my mind is expanding faster than I can assimilate your information. I’m a civilian who has PTSD and anxiety disorder. You described it perfectly. Finally someone who completely, 100% gets it. Ty. My husband tries to help when he’s around and my anxiety completely swamps me. However since he doesn’t suffer from anxiety, his suggestions irritate me. The worst ones are: just stop being anxious, get over it, move on or deal with it. All things that make me want to scream “are you kidding me? Like I hadn’t already thought of those things? Don’t you think if I could I would’ve for the past 50 years?” I don’t scream those thoughts at him bc I know he’s genuinely trying to help me but it’s frustrating. My service dog Ella died October 15, 2018 and since then I’ve been lost. Fortunately that’s one thing my husband CAN relate to. He still cries about losing her from time to time but he doesn’t feel the dread that I do about trying to decide if I can make it through a public trip. I’ve been hiding at home more since she died. Ty for the work you’re doing. The world needs more understanding of the animal-human bond. God bless you. 🙌🏻👏🏻🤗

Im so happy to hear you speak and bring up this issue. Absused pit bulls are a tragedy becauee they are the most loving and caring dogs. They dont deserve to be tortured and then disposed of because of human cruelty and stupidity. Thank you and i wish you all the best.

My three dogs are just the same as my children. I love them and I will be their daddy. I treat them lovingly but I also educate them. I think we are a good family and have a good time.

We got a rescue dog. Had her shipped over from Greece as she was gonna be put down. She was a total nightmare whenever outside the house and had to be kept away from people and other dogs. A lot of gentle care and much effort on our part in learning how to communicate with her and we now have, 3.5 years later, a calm and happy and stable dog - unless you are a delivery man, that is 🙂🇬🇧
