Human Connections and Real Talk is the way that our community can move forward honestly, authentically, and without judgement. This is one of the pathways to healing wounds and learning to be better humans. It is our intention to open a broader conversation about the role we play as individuals in a society built on racist systems. Being vulnerable is risky, but we do it with the right intentions. What are you willing to do to improve race relations around you? This has been in the works for a long time, reflecting and thinking about what i wanted to say. It’s hard to want to discuss something when you feel like the world is against you. So for me personally, i wanted to do this because i felt it was the right thing. I never intended to upset anyone, but i am honored to have the resources to educate myself, so i can be a better human being. I hope we can all grow and learn together, because no one is perfect. I am sorry and i promise to do better. This discussion was moderated by Latoya Holman, National Equal Rights Advocate, and joined by Roxann McCoy, President of The NAACP of Las Vegas. Do yourself a favor and follow these incredible women! @latoyalasvegas @roxmccoy

As a black man, I do actually feel that Elliott was speaking out of unintentional ignorance and not racism and that’s something people need to learn the difference. And I’m also going to need white people to stop accepting apologies on behalf of black/poc as well. Shit’s getting mad irritating.

It definitely is, however, it would be better with a genuine person. This is however, from Elliott, was a photo op. Who Elliott should have been talking to, NOT ON CAMERA, should have been with the POC’s of color that he offended. This was all to save face. And a person who claims to be well informed and smart, playing stupid is ridiculous. There is not one video where Elliott has described someone in drag, either non “AGGRESSIVE, or aggressive. So the micro aggression, was deliberate. My best friend is Caucasian, she has NEVER SAID “Black Girl Magic”. When a Caucasian limits a POC to their race, it is an intentional put down, wrapped in a compliment, cause let’s be clear, Simone was just MAGIC. Elliott did all of this grandstanding, when all he had to do was apologize. Even here, whilst claiming to now understand why what she said was wrong, still didn’t apologize. Elliott has taken every opportunity to excuse her prejudice, as opposed to apologizing for his actions. These women although well intentioned, dropped the ball in this one respect. In the explanation of what his supposed intent was, he played the victim. He negates what he did, and focused more on how he was treated.

I Loved this, I love that you took your time to prepare for this, and that you didn't just apologize, but started a whole conversation about what the root of the problem/misunderstanding was. It shows maturity, patience, and it shows how humble you are by putting yourself in this position that many people wouldn't feel comfortable with. People need to stop blowing things out of proportion and making assumptions, they should educate first, not attack. It shows who's the bigger person, and I love it. Hopefully this will get the attention it deserves, but if it doesn't, we know, we love you, and we support you. Lots of love honey 🥰💕

24:08 No any black person will not be more than happy to educate a white person. That statement saddens me intensely because it speaks to how so out of touch these black women are. We aren't all as productive as a drag queen on drag race or a strong ambitious completely able bodied black woman. Some of us have a good share of burdens or directly in the line of fire of oppression. It isn't our job to educate you. Do the work yourselves and be discerning about who you ask to educate you (someone who is clearly well supported either by yourself or their own support network). That's not to say this wasn't positive. It's pretty brave.

You shouldn't have done this because you never said anything wrong. In these woke times people apologize way too easy even when they have said nothing wrong.

There's a part of the controversy that wasn't addressed in this video that I think is important to take into account to understand where the people who were upset are coming from. It's that the Vixen is a Chicago queen who does a tour called Black Girl Magic, and she received a TON of hateful comments for being so outspoken and yes, aggressive, in calling out microaggressions and etc when she appeared on Drag Race season 10. White liberals who fancy themselves progressives will say things like, "I agree with your cause, but do you have to be so *aggressive?*" So there are a lot of people, myself included, who saw that initial clip and read into it a subtext of Elliott saying "I support black civil rights when they're promoted in a way that's nice and calm and doesn't upset me in my whiteness." I don't think that's how Elliott meant it, I certainly don't after watching this video, but I think that's a major layer of complexity in all of this that I haven't seen explicitly addressed.
@FursaFarfasha

Agreed, I think this video is pretty great, but I wish there was someone on the panel that was aware of all those complexities. Maybe another queen?
@vanessapujol8901

The Vixen was aggressive though. When Aquaria got overwhelmed and started to cry she immediately whipped up the angry black woman trope to manipulate the narrative and she just had made her cry. She was pretty manipulative at that instance and didn't care nor apologized for being aggressive. People like the Vixen have made me cry in the same way so that was pretty triggering as well as a gaslighting of the situation. I'm brown by the way, not that it should matter but these are the times we are living.

With or without this video... Even if she just apologized, the people won't take it and still send death threats to her and tell other people "it's not your apology to accept" which in terms of cancel culture, "I won't accept the apology no matter what" (and it makes them feel they are better people I guess)... So yeah... "Just" apologizing is not even an option to anyone at all.
@koutakajima6465
@koutakajima6465 3 жыл бұрын
And did I lie? And here's the thing, in cancel culture, if you support someone who already apologized... You are gonna be redtagged as Racist or Transphobic etc etc... And if you as someone who supports them, that is cancelled, aren't in any position to accept their apology... What are you supposed to do? That is why people ride into the hate bandwagon, even white people find themselves cancelling people so that "they can be" allies of the oppressed and not be cancelled too.

@@koutakajima6465 maybe if she apologized earlier, it wouldn’t have gotten to this point. Too little too late for her, as she’s done many offensive things to the point where none of the season 13 girls even follow her.

I think that there was NO accountability taken on this video and these two black women are his friends giving him a pass. There was no apology for the posts he made about the black barbies, the transphobic comments made about Caitlyn Jenner. There was no commitment to giving back to a community he harmed and these two black women are behaving dangerously towards their community by not holding this man accountable
