In which John Green and Hank Green teach you about how human primates moved out of Africa and turned Earth into a real-life Planet of the Apes. And the apes are people! John and Hank teach you about how humans evolved, and the sort of tricks they picked up along the way like complex tool use, big brains, and fighting. Our ancestors adapted to the grasslands of Africa and went through several iterations including Australopithecus, homo habilis, and homo ergaster/erectus. Our ancestors tamed fire, made pressure flake tools, and eventually smartphones.

Heck dogs are about as good in thinking as a 2 year old. Just having a painting that show a object and connecting that painting to a real object is far more advanced then most other animals can even dream of. Only the smartest of dogs can do that (pretty much the only other animal apart from humans) and just about every human 2 year old can do that.

Seeing our actual place both in the large "map" and the even larger timeline of the universe can frighten a lot of people and make them feel small and unimportant. I am more on theside of Neil deGrasse Tyson, i find it awesome that bits of the heart of stars now forms bits of MY heart and might go on to do so for billions of other lifeforms before the universe runs over with entropy and every process simply stops.

First off evolution deals with the change in heritable traits of a population over successive generations...a biological population. That has nothing to do with socialism which is an economic theory. Stalins Soviet Union didnt even teach evolution and Hitler certainly didnt. North Korea doesnt. Apes does not refer to a single species. Our closest relatives are chimps and bonobos. Bonobos are peaceful. They dont ever kill...ever. One of our defining features is that we go to war with each other to kill each other. We are the only species that create weapons on a mass scale to kill one another. The twentieth century had 2 world wars where tens of millions of people were killed.. Humans are the most violent species on this planet in terms of large scale destruction. Ya we have an amazing ability to love and care for one another but lets not pretend we arent violent. No other species comes close to us.

@SubversiveMemes you should probably take a primate course
@riana4084
@riana4084 4 жыл бұрын
@SubversiveMemes well chimpanzees are a more "successful" species than bonobos I guess but that's because there are several factors that contribute to that that are out of their own control. Like habitat, for one. There is more habitat readily available for them to take control over. Bonobos on the other hand are on the other side of the river and have a limited amount of land and face major population loss from humans that live in the same area. The killing and hunting of bonobos has been sanctioned by the military of the Congo, and it's the main reason for their population decline. But bonobos are not "dumb" nor unsuccessful, it's just different adaptations to different ecological situations. I won't argue that Chimpanzees are more successful, but being "dumb" isn't always a very educated claim on another species decline. The chimps have a slightly larger brain capacity, but it was the Bonobos who outperformed the chimps on the theory of mind scale and they at times have scored higher on intelligence tests. At the same time, Chimpanzees have outperformed in some areas and appear better at tool use. All I'm saying is that Bonobos aren't "dumb", there are socio-ecological pressures at play and they are important for shaping the differences between the two.

The simple fact of the matter is that none of us have been there. Both sides provide a vast amount of evidence, however, on the internet the majority is young people. The majority of young people are humanists (atheists), making the opinions you see, very one sided.One of the best supports among creationists is archaeology. There have been close to zero finds of apes/man. Any that are, are quickly debunked as fakes. Where as the other side has carbon dating. This has been known to fail in the past but sides with evolution. For many people, this discussion hits home on the center of what a person lives for. I ask you to be respectful of each person's beliefs nerdfights. dftba

The most favorable numbers for evolution are that human and chimpanzee FIXED genomes differ by 30 million. Divide by 2 to get 15 million.

Not necessarily true. For your information, it wasn't Darwin that discovered the theory of evolution. H merely discovered the process by which species evolve. The theory was actually formulated in the 14th century by a Muslim scientist by the name of Ibn Khaldun. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_views_on_evolution#History If those guys back then could believe in it, then i don't understand why other religious fundamentalists cant believe in it. It's perhaps mainly their ignorance of science (quite obviously).

I don't know how it is in America, but back home in the Middle East, people are split in 3 positions. The first one (this forms the overall majority) is that evolution is real, but doesn't apply to humans. God only made it look like humans were evolved from apes. The second is that human evolution is real and the third (less than 1%) is that there is no such thing called evolution. I personally couldnt care less if evolution is true or false. I for example take a neutral position and say that science should advance further before we say anythings as fact. I say this only to appease to those creationist idiots, and although i believe in human evolution, i don't understand what is the point if people believe in it or not. It won't allow us to reach the moon so who cares id people think evolution is false.

Denying the validity of evolution in 2016 is unacceptable. It is indisputable fact. I love how religious institutions have to increasingly create more absurd explanations as scientists discover more and more. They've won many battles, but they've certainly lost the war.

I absolutely love your videos and admire the effort you put into making those 15-minute "documentaries". It's amazing how I learn way more from your succinct vids than I would from watching an hour long NatGeo docu filled with innumerable ad-breaks and cliff hangers. If everyone watched a CrashCourse video everyday, or any other educational/scientific/philosohical video (Veritasium, SmarterEveryDay or any other of these KZfaqrs) I honestly think the world would be a better place. Keep up the good work, guys. We really do appreciate the effort, even if we do sometimes (okay, quite a LOT of time) occupy your comments section to wage our KZfaq wars (but hey, it's hard controlling our adrenal glands with our puny prefrontal cortex!)

Abici Gif stands for Graphic Interchange Format. I'm sorry, are you trying to say it's pronounced "jif"? Maybe when i get home I'll play with my Jolden Retriever, or rent the 2014 box office hit, Juardians of the Jalaxy. I know! For your birthday I'll jive you a jift, possibly a joldfish or a juinea pij.

Alec Jones Yeah, I get the gist of what you're saying. But you could also go to a geriatric home (unless you have an allergy to the aged), or maybe to the zoo to see the giraffes (unless you illogically cringe around giants). Though, I suppose you could watch a movie, maybe about the vigilante, Batman, or maybe The Fugitive, with Harrison Ford. It doesn't take much imagination to see that letters can produce different sounds. At least, if your mind is agile enough.

Honestly, the only reason I pronounce it 'jiff' is because I read an HTML design book when I was younger, and it said the creator of the format named it after the peanut butter. But I agree that both forms are correct, or at least acceptable. I just like joking about people pronouncing it wrong because most people use a hard 'g' sound.

Creationism believe in a supernatural source of things. That is to say a source that transcendends the natural order and gave rise to it. Given that some enthusiasts are contending that language can give rise to an “evolution” that transcends genetics, well,, the Gospel of John begins with “In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
