Correction on the cheese straight from Google. I was skeptical because milk isn't good for cats, and we all know what cheese is made of. Google says: "All types of cheese, including cheddar, parmesan, brie, feta, mozzarella and blue cheese are not healthy for cats as they all contain lactose which can make them unwell. Also avoid giving your cat any lactose-free or plant-based cheese, as a lot of dairy alternatives contain ingredients that could be toxic for cats." Please don't believe everything you hear on the internet and do your own research and fact checking before you give ANYTHING unusual to your pets.

The vast majority of cats are lactose intolerant, yes. There are, however, a small percentage of cats that are lactase persistent, and they are fine to eat cheese and other dairy products. The same goes for any mammal, adults are mostly lactose intolerant, a few are lactase persistent. Humans too, only a third of people aren’t lactose intolerant. Source: huge nerd here, with a family full of lactase persistence, even our cat (she absolutely loves cheese).

@@user-zc6ug3qh3z Yes but you got to be careful with raw food! Animals in the wild are more resistent to bacteria, infections and viruses. Actually, a cat in the wild lives a really short life, mostly because of parasites found in raw meat. You can give them raw food but carefully, it has to be blasted, just like the raw food we can consume. But some foods even if blasted are unsafe to eat raw, like for example pig and chicken. Fish and red meats are ok if blasted. Hope that helps

I've done a little research and, from what I understand, raw fish IS safe for cats, however it is completely dependent on the type of fish and how it was processed. Firstly, the amount of parasites and bacteria that are actually in store-bought fish is low and it is very unlikely to make you sick. Sushi-grade fish or flash-frozen fish would be safe from parasites and most bacteria. Of course a small amount of bacteria is left, but not enough to hurt humans, and certainly not enough to hurt cats. Some fish, like tuna, can have too high levels of mercury to be safe for cats. Some canned fish can also have too much sodium for cats and can make them sick. In addition, fish that contain thiaminase can make cats sick because it inhibits the absorbtion of certain vitamins in their body. I think the biggest reason why raw fish COULD make a cat sick is because they aren't used to eating it. Sudden changes in diet for domesticated animals can cause serious GI upset. There are several brands of cat food made with raw fish, as it is completely safe when it's processed properly. My guess is that raw fish is discouraged because fish for humans is not farmed with cats in mind, and while the risk may be low, companies don't want to get sued over their fish making your cat sick.

@@ArtNikVr1 basically, most sushi-grade fish is safe for cats. Raw fish in general is usually fine for cats. Some fish have pollutants or naturally-occurring chemicals that are dangerous to cats, but not many.

About the cheese thing, it's important to remember that most adult cats are lactose intolerant! Please only give it in very small amounts and don't give them things like milk or cream to drink, water is best for hydration for cats. I'm a veterinary student and it's crazy to think how many people don't know this

As to why, lactose can cause cats diarrhea, which in turn causes dehydration. It's also just not a good time, it can be painful and uncomfortable. If the diarrhea continues, the cat may become weak and ill. A good way to treat diarrhea in both humans and many animals is to drink alot of water and not eat a whole lot for around 12-24 hours. Always consult a veterinarian if you think something is wrong

Fun fact: cats are obligate carnivores and a lot of health problems that develop in cats comes from improper diet for their unique system. One of the biggest culprits being dry kibble. They lack the ability to efficiently digest anything but meat, and get their need for nutrients found in plants and their moisture requirements (drinking lots of water isn't natural for a cat) through the live prey they eat. Which contains the digestive enzymes in their guts (tripe) that cats lack. Just because they "will" eat something other than meat doesn't mean it's good for them. It could lead to early health problems like kidney failure for example.

Cats can eat raw fish, you have to watch for Mercury levels. For example salmon is lower in mercury so it's safe. One of the best to feed in raw diets. Predatory fish like tuna can be too high in mercury and it's suggested to avoid. I feed my cats a raw diet, both are ironically sensitive to fish and i use replacement oils to get them the same benefits and nutrients that fish would supply them. Cats can't however have raw shellfish, which if you check most shellfish for humans is sold already steamed or something similar. Another thing is raw fat can be a great boost for high energy cats, but cooked fast can lead to pancreatic issues (of course all fat in high quantities can but cooked fat is more likely to and raw fat is used for energy from cats and essential to raw diets in correct amounts). Cats are obligate carnivores and its better to stick to that diet. Im not shaming anyone who doesn't feed raw but don't spread misinformation so you can plug a product. Hope someone learned some cool information today! :) I've been feeding raw for over a year and am constantly learning and it's a huge topic i love to learn about so i wanted to share these facts with anyone who would appreciate them

I think that the raw fish in sushi is safe to eat since is made for humans and it shouldn’t have any bacteria. But probably if you got the raw fish on a sketchy place you could get sick as well as your cat.

Any raw fish meant for human consumption is absolutely fine for cats too. But if youre unsure cook it first. I had a cat who survived with 99% fish because of his severe allergy to absolutely anything and everything. Wheat, rice even chicken and red meat 😢 i tried everything.very rarely I had to give him other stuff for nutrients sake but he would break out in such bad rashes and suffer hair loss on wide areas because of it. So yeah... fish is absolutely fine.

One of my cat is allergic to chicken, his ears would itch, and he would scratch and scratch and scratch at it until it bleeds. I thought it was fungal infection at first but no medicine work, then I change his food (the old one is chicken based) and the itch magically cured 😅

Please don’t feed chocolate to mice… But everything else is correct. Mice LOVE sweet things and cheese often causes issues in mice such as diarrhea/excessive pooping. If you DO plan on feeding mice cheese, feed them small amounts. Other than that, mice are pretty indifferent to cheese because mice eat almost anything lol

An experiment was done years ago. One group of cats was fed only cooked meats and the other group was fed only raw. The cats were allowed to reproduce & after just 2 to 3 generations the health of the cats was much poorer to that of the raw fed group. Cooked meats group had many still borns, an overall shorter lifespan & were much less energetic than their raw fed counterparts. Cooked meat group also began developing a slightly flatter skull indicating poor bone development as an embryo & kitten. Do with that information as you will.

That study (Pottenger's Cats) was done in the 1930s before it was known that cats required taurine to be healthy and cooking tends to destroy natural taurine found in food. Modern observation of cats being able to breed just fine for many many generations eating cooked food (supplemented with taurine) contradicts it's findings. The study was never able to be reproduced so I wouldn't take any of its conclusions as being accurate or usable information.

@@cloudycolacorp 54% newspaper, really? You don't have to work at a pet store to be able to read and understand ingredient lists. Cat food has come a long way, especially recently. There are less fillers and corn based cat foods on the market and many high quality foods available for both dogs and cats. You do have the option to feed them raw food of course but cats can live very long healthy lives on cat food.

As a cat, I can confirm this is true. I eat all of these things but I would recommend you hoomans be careful when feeding your kitties cheese, yogurt, and other milk products because they may contain lactose. Most cats are lactose intolerant (not me though) so cheese can actually be deadly for them. It should only be given in a small amount like the video said :)

@niyonmor786 Obviously too much of something will give you a stomachache, but 1: Water as your example is bad, because you'd have to go purposefully out of your way to drink that much water, meanwhile a cat could feasibly eat too much raw fish and get sick. And 2: as someone who owns cats, I can vouch that every domesticated cat I've ever owned has had issues when eating raw fish, just a small amount (which is subjective anyway, because "small" isnt a uniform measurement) gave most of them stomachaches or Diarrhea. Not every cat is the same, though, so there's not really a way to quantify it, unless you went to every cat owner in America and fed the cats *just* enough fish to get them sick and averaged your findings.

@@bluesapphire4262Yep, sushi grade meats have standards of freshness, are checked for parasites, and are frozen. You can't just give them ANY raw fish, but you can absolutely get unseasoned salmon, tuna or others and give it to them in small amounts if it is actually sushi grade. However, thiaminase! Raw fish in large amounts isn't a good thing for kitties, just as we can get protein poisoning, too much of a good thing for them is bad too. It can cause GI upsets for them if they have too much.
